  • @TheEllingt0n Im not sure but i think this is the man who my great uncle was taught by in New york and Harlem back in the mid 50's and also Paul Robeson. My great uncles name was Harold Blair an Aboriginal Baritone from Australia.

  • @XLongbeachX

i love how the vocal music world is so connected!!! thanks 4 sharing tha lol

  • Prof. Duncan is the original singer of UNCHAINED MELODY.

  • Exactly, most people think it's either Al Hibbler or the Righteous Bros.

  • Duncan was still teaching in the 70's & 80's, and his voice was still quite powerful for a man of his age.

  • Dang -- why isn't more of Duncan's singing available on the Web? --

  • Duncan was the first Porgy. In the sixties he was one of the two most prominent voice teachers in Washington DC. The other was Frederick Wilkerson who had coached Porgy in Hollywood. He had also taught William Warfield.

Duncan and Wilkerson were bitter rivals. Wilkerson made us go to local performances of Duncan students to learn how not to sing. If someone sang badly he would accuse them of secretly studying with Duncan.

  • Great voice though the song is a bit repetitive. Pity his version of Unchained Melody does not seem to be available anywhere.
