Had my laptop hooked up to the home stereo listening to music at decent volume...my brother comes bustin' thru the front door sayin "U have got 2 see this evil bastard!" and pulls this up&forgets 2 turn volume down. Gun fires. My first thought(after picking my asshole up off the floor)was that im pretty damn sure if an elderly person wouldve been here,id be doin chest compressions! That sir,is a goddam beast of a weapon! Now,if u'll excuse me,I have 2 change & do some laundry!
@SonOfjackass94 You're adorable. Did you see a 240p comment somewhere on Youtube and were you looking for an appropriate video just to post one yourself so everyone can see how o-fucking-riginal you are? Hey, I've an idea. Why don't you find a PTRS, make an HD video of it and upload it? Until then, you may fuck off.
@ruski1945 that comment was 5 months old but whatever. and it would cost alot of money to get to a third world country so unless you live in one surplus rounds are better
Yep it can penetrate about 40mm of armor ina short distances,
Still would make very fine anti-material rifle today. AFAIK some new South African and Hungarian sniper rifles use the round still. They probably could penetrate any modern APC save heavy models derved from MBTs (Israeli ones done from T-55)
@rustyfiero OMG I KNEW IT!!!!! I have an SKS and i have always thought that the parts are almost exactly the same! Thank you that got rid of a lot of confusion :D
It's funny in CoD how everyone runs around with no tactical cohesion, and in real life they cover eachother and are all using near enough the same weapon.
14.5mm makes .50 cal look like a little pussy, .50 BMG produces only 18000 Joules, 14.5x114mm M41 produces 32000 Joules. 14.5mm is much more accurate too.
the .50BMG cartridge is 12.7x99.....this cartridge being 14.5x114.....i would hardly say this round is twie as powerful, given that is is not much bigger. that would be like saying the 8mm mauser is twice as powerfull as the 7mm mauser....slightly more powerfull, yes, but twice, no.
@SNIPERSTEVE420 It's not the case length or the caliber that determines a round's power but the case capacity. Take the cases from each round, fill them with water and look what happens before trying to be smart.
@SNIPERSTEVE420 this is quite a bit more powerful than a .50 bmg. a .50 bmg puts out about 15000 ft lbs of energy or 20000 joules, this puts out about 24000 ft lbs or 32000 joules
@SNIPERSTEVE420 Your point was that the 14.5x114 is only slightly more powerful, which is an understatement to say the least, so don't try to talk your way out of it. According to the TM 2043-0001-27, the .50 M2 round develops ca. 16kJ, which is only 53% of the 14.5's E0. That's why the word "roughly" is included in the description.
@SNIPERSTEVE420 Size of the round is not the determinent factor, the momentum of the round as it contacts the object/person is. In contrast then is the 7.62x39mm (AK) and the 5.56x45 NATO. Since p=(m)(v): P(7.62)=(8g)(720)=57.6N·s and P(5.56)=(4g)(940m/s)=37.6N·s. Assuming the range to target is roughly 100m the new momentum is p(7.62)=11.1N·s and p(5.56)=4.25N·s. The momentum of the 5.56mm is less than that of the 7.62, but the 5.56 will travel farther because it is lighter. It's simple physics
@SNIPERSTEVE420 actually the pounds of force per square inch that the bullet coming out of this rifle is in fact roughly twice as powerfull, and thats not considering what a crazy texan, or southerner for that matter might do if he was to handload this bullet and +p+ it. im sure the design of this gun can handle it.
@biggunzman I have nothing against southerners, it was a mere compliment to their culture revolving around the outdoors, marksmanship, and living and respecting the countryside and its laid back atmosphere. I have seen various youtube videos made by southerners that have the knowledge passion for guns and they do some pretty interesting stuff, such as setting up an outdoor target range to test their "military surplus".
@SSSDiaz7 that is a very common not true generalization. The southern culture does not revolve around the respecting the countryside marksmanship, or the outdoors. sadly many don't give a crap about the countryside or marksmanship. just about trying to look cool or trying to make money. (i live in the south)
@ak4ben Hmm, I didn't forget it, I was just pointing out that quite literally, the 14.5x114 is almost twice as powerful as the .50 BMG. (There was a comment that tried to desperately refute that).
The 12.7x108 I guess is more comparable to the .50 BMG cartridge as they are pretty similar cartridges in a number of ways, I suppose.
@SNIPERSTEVE420 Its like a .44(11.18mm) magnum vs a 50AE(12.7mm) and theres no much diference between the cal. diameter but theres a world of diference between the power of the bullet
@dxxa95 Depends on the potential energy of the gunpowder and the mass of the bullet. Believe it or not, diameter does have an effect on frontal surface area, in otherwords, more air drag. So if you have a massive bullet that is long but not wide, it can go quite a longer distance.
@SNIPERSTEVE420 It's barrel length that makes the difference. The case and powder burn design ensures maximum projectile acceleration down the length of its tube. The PTRS/D is twice as powerful, with respect to armor penetration.
@SNIPERSTEVE420 You might take a look ballistics energy.... The 14.5 has almost twice the energy of a 50BMG, about 23,000ft/lbs compared to 13,000ft/lbs.
@luvz2snipe360 I know its just that you cant exactly fire a gun like a soldier by watching a soldier fire it you need to train and use the gun a lot like well a soldier
Although it's main purpose was an anti-tank rifle, it's cousin rifle the PTRD was known to have scopes attached during the Korean war, giving the rifle an effective range of 1500 meters. Also during the battle of Stalingrad the PTRS was used as an anti personal rifle. I can't find any articles saying that the PTRS was ever used as a scoped rifle
You god damn kids need to stop commenting on rifles if you have never fired one much less owned one. This isn't call of duty nor is it AIRSOFT. GROW THE HELL UP.
