@USApowerMAN16 France does not have any and does not care to have any harriers or f35b's. they have (i believe its) 4 mistral class ships. They are meant to carry choppers and embarked forces. Even the U.S's wasp class only carrys 6 harriers, it can carry 20 but the argument is that they are not carriers they are amphibious landing ships, the U.S never fills them up with harriers. Thats how France sees them too. so why have harriers?

@bingofioul Those are LPDs, Mistral is an LPH so the closest in the RN is Ocean and for the US is the Essex class. Essex are much bigger than Mistral while Ocean is about the same size but with no well dock.

Absolutely a force projection vehicle that makes a lot more sense than jet fighter carriers for close ground combat support, and not for major bombing campaigns.

@ITmage I think second one will be built in france with russians watching and learning, then the following ones will be built in russia, because russia needs time to build infrastructure and dry-docks of that size. All of the previous soviet carriers including Kuznetsov were build in Nikolayev, Ukraine on black sea.
