Um what? Hipsters have been around for decades. The only thing that changed about hipsters is there clothing styles. The attitude stays the same, the cooler than though attitude that they carry. Look at the late 80s-early 90s shoe gaze scene. The term hipster came into usage back in the 40s, 50s, and early 60s to describe beatniks, cafe sitting, pot smoking, barret wearing, jazz playing, black wannabe hipsters. The term eventually evolved into hippie in the 60s.

Then in the 90s and 00s the term has been revived because they have come into focus due to the post modern bullshit, and their ridiculousness and the corporate culture marketing whatever hipsters do back to teens, with these indie bands, the popularization of "green culture" and their take over of popular neighborhoods in popular cities like Williamsberg and other places. The current emo/scene styles do not predate the current hipster style, it runs concurrent.

I used to be mentally like a hipster, but with the whole heavy metal getup back in high school. This was back when emo was big, and scene was just starting. I wear skinny jeans( I'm a skinny guy), and I dig vintage clothes, and I like how most of the urban outfitters clothes fit, but I don't think I'm a hipster. I don't judge folks, I don't go out of my way to immerse myself in counterculture, and my musical tastes touch just about every genre, not just underground indie rock. I also associate myself with people from different walks of life.

You can easily put a label on just about everyone's style. Just sayin'!
