I remember when country actually sounded like this and was acoustic guitars not electric, not saying I don't like new country and I know this is Blue Grass but country used to be like this
I can honestly say i mite look like my daddy but i'm not my father's son he lost his son the day he walked out and i've vowed to never be the kinda father mine is i want to see my daughter an be the biggest part of her life an God help anybody that would ever try to stop me from being a big part of my daughters life. This song helps me remember the men that's been in my life that were more of a father than my own ever dreamed to be
I WOULD LIKE TO DEDICATE THIS SONG TO MY BROTHER JOHN, WHO IS A GOOD SON, BROTHER AND FRIEND TO ALL WHO KNOW HIM. HE SPENT HIS WHOLE LIFE TRYING TO MAKE OUR DAD PROUD OF HIM. WE LOST OUR DAD ON NOVEMBER 19, 2008 AND UNFORTUNATELY IT NEVER CAME TO PASS FOR MY BROTHER. OUR DAD WOULD TELL EVERYONE ELSE BUT THE ONE PERSON IT WOULD HAVE MEANT SO MUCH TO. I AM HERE TO LET MY BROTHER KNOW WHAT A FINE YOUNG MAN HE IS AND HOW MUCH I LOVE HIM.
@dbeater1 Anyone Who was A teenager During the last Half of the sixty's Can tell you for absolute sure! God bless those older brothers and cousins Who Tried to right An Awful wrong, Only to have one Perpetrated on them. People should have spit on L.B.J.'s administration and J. Edgar Hoover!, They're the ones who had their hearts (not to mention, their HEADS) in the Wrong place. But that's O.K., They'll get their "blessing", and I hope those brave souls find and recieve theirs. Truth is out there.
These are called the TransAtlantic Sessions, recorded by BBC. Season 4 was just released, and Jerry Douglas helped produce them. If you check out the other videos (and there are plenty!) you will be quite pleased!
my friend is married to a coal miner from west virginia he is a very kind and gentle person who works hard in the mines i love this song it makes me think of him
ya sure i do.. im gettin my camera back today ..i will put it on youtube..ronald gallant playing my fathers son....absolutely had to learn the whole album...loved it
my Dad had 5 boys we lost him when i was 8 im now 47 he worked his self to death for us i was their when he passed it still hurts i never got to know him as i became a man or him not to play with his grand kids they say one we will meet agin i hope so cause i miss his so him and my mom are togather now . well im just rattling on so ill say good bye.
My father played home-made-banjo, and I don't know how he find the great place in my heart. Thank you, Karl! Thanks for country music in my life! I learn many things from country songs.
My Dad played banjo, and gave me love for country. I believe in familly, and thruth, honest, pride and children...I believe in good till the end of my life here. Hear the country and message through the many songs! That' the way. I don't need any other kind of music to learn something new!
Honest men like my Great-Grandfather who supported his blind wife and 16 children. Honest men like my Grandfather who supported his wife and 10 children, staying commited to the same woman for nearly 60 years and still saying shes the most beautiful woman even she passed on years ago. Honest men like my Dad who has supportd his wife and child for decades and still doing so today in his failing health. And one day I am worthing of having my family say the same of me.
Some of the kindest words I have heard from a man in a long time.. I know the value of what you speak. As my own father was direct opposite of these fine examples. I hope to be as good as your family line some day.

I love songs like "My Fathers Son" because to me they illustrate our country and our people. This song is awesome, it reminds me of bluegrass and in some ways Irish folk music. The beauty and honesty of the lyrics give me chill bumps everytime I hear them
i live in a city . but its songs like this that make me wish i lived on a farm or some place else,,keep up the faith Ricky I have listened to your music a long time now and still find it inspiring,, GOD bless you!
im carolinian, and i hold old time, bluegrass, and trad scotch- irish music very dear. the is suomething to be said about simple, gentle music like this
Bluegrass is simple and beautiful. It is very soulful. I believe that most people feel the emotion that is displayed and reverberated through these songs.
My thanks to God, and to Ricky, for a lifetime of wonderful music. From a man raised in Baltimore, yet fortunate to have spent half my life in the mountains of N.E. Tennessee, and worked in Kentucky. I miss the mountains, home of the most wonderful people and the music.
I have lived in many places, but the humble folks here in Kentucky are the best. They have the ability to laugh at themselves and entertain strangers, for some have entertained angels unawares.God bless Ricky for his efforts to bring this great music to the fore
Great song Ricky! Whole song was great, especially this part.....well the rich man writes a book of laws, a poor man must defend, but the highest laws are written on the hearts of honest men. :) Thanks for posting this tomtscotland!
Beautiful!God has blessed KY with Spiritual roots that run so deep! I am Blessed to have been part of it, to know the hardship of living the 'simple life' and now to yearn for it with such lonliness that words cannot express. This song gives one glimpse into that life. God Bless, a KY girl who longs for home.
The highest laws are written on the hearts of honest men says so much, integrity is something that our country needs more of. This is a great song sung by a great man....
My grandfather was a coal miner in southern Illinois and my mother has always said she prays for the coal miners. The work is hard and the pay is never sufficient for the work they do. You must be one tough guy.
Our choir has a nice traditional piece from Harlan County up on my youtube site. Also a guy from upstate New York has done a version of it. It's called "Bright Morning Star."
