  • What a completely embarrassing pile of utter rubbish this film is. A very bad go at the Shane Meadows view of life which isn't that good either. Not about Wigan Casino or the music. Clunky, badly writen and the dance scenes are horrendous. Wigan wasn't a school disco. And who was in charge of the trousers. A big fat nonsense of a film.

  • STOKE (soul) ON TRENT

  • tracklist pleas!

  • @tacvbo6 All the tracks are available on a 2 CD set I think, called "soulboy" Volume one and two

  • Watched GOOD film!

  • what a load of rubbish.

  • what the tiltle of the song & the singer..i mean in the movie 0.36?

  • @spontanz The track is Tainted Love by Gloria Jones (1964)

  • @talentedMrRead TQ mr.T

  • I would love to see this! The concept reminds me of that of The Commitments.

  • THIS BETTER GO ON NETFLIX.

  • whats is the name of the tune?

  • thay onner stokie accents!!

  • This movie sucked! I thought it was going to be a prequel to 1986's Soul Man but boy, was I wrong! Instead it was like Lords Of Dogtown, but for ravers instead of skaters.

  • I sooo wanna see this movie x)

  • The door is at The Kings Hall, Stoke. We did film in Tunstall Baths but didn't make it into the film. Type soulboy deleted scenes into Youtube and you'll see it.

  • Whoa so weird to hear him not speaking in a Scottish accent...

  • Does anyone know if that door featured in the scuffle is Tunstall Baths? Looks like it to me:-)

  • Truly amazing! kinda depresses me though, wish i was around back then to go to Wigan!

  • DONT KNOW WHY but MOVIE IS AWSOME... I liked it because it is very creativee 10/10 stars and you can see it on moovi.co.cc!

  • watched it last night, brilliant

  • Goshh!! what animation and awesome story!! my kids loved it... thanks moovi.co.cc... :) Guys, this is the site you gotta check out for the best quality films!!

  • Watch the film ....Also worked the door at the Casino for 7 year .found the film to contain a lot of fiction ........but there you go

  • 0:48 my brother was the DJ in this :D

  • Incidentally, can anyone explain why the fk they re-recorded "Magic Carpet Ride" using Gabriella Cilmi? Admittedly they have stuck close to Kiki Dee's version, but why not just use Kiki's version anyway?

  • This is just a good love triangle story based AROUND the Northern scene. It's NOT a documentary ABOUT Northern Soul OR The Casino! I went to the venue several times and i DID see dealing, just the same for The Wheel, & The Torch in Tunstall in Stoke on Trent, where incidentally a lot of this film was shot (the shop used as the record shop is 40 yards from where The Torch stood!) I never saw a single fight either, but again, that's just a part of this film and not the history of the scene. 10/10

  • I never saw one fight or one drug being sold or taken what a big dissapointment this crap was.

  • a wonderful movie, too bad the remixed and remastered version of "Tainted Love" is only available in the movie and not on the soundtrack :/

  • ignore the critics and enjoy the film!!

  • cant wait to see it my dad can dance like that well he could lol XD

  • WOST MOVIE EVER

    1 / 10

DON'T WATCH IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME

  • At the end of this clip a guy does a windmill. could anyone do this move in 74? or is that just a bit of artistic license? Looks like a cool film, cant wait to watch it.

  • @jazzfoook They used to do it all the time at my youth club discos!

  • I saw it a month ago at a prescreening and can't wait to see it again. Maybe even tonight at kookíca, now that it's open here. It i really perfect movie, trust to me. You will like it.

  • I reallyenyojed this movie on kookíca..The action seens were top draw and the cast was well selected. and it also has great humor

  • i live in stoke on trent i remember them days like they were yesterday they were great

  • Saw it on kookíca and LOVED it! Great cemistry all around, great supporting cast, really a suprise at how much I enjoyed it..totally recommend it!

  • This is a movie that will open your eyes, mind and your heart at the moment you start it. Don't be afraid, it is just a movie and movie special effects, it is not real..but it is fun. See it at kookíca, must be seen!

  • To see outtakes from the film type SoulBoy Bloopers into the search engine

  • thedragonb you fuckin stupid prick why dont you get your facts right before you write dohhhh

  • @thedreagonb your stupid because this was how it started.

  • @TooDarnSoulful

Thank you,Rich! For me it`s very nice to see it,especially in english.BellaƸ̵̡Ӝ̵Ʒ

  • @TooDarnSoulful Fair enough, but it's a drama, not a documentary and it needs a plot! I took it with several pinches of salt and ended up loving its period detail. It would be great to see a proper documentary (beyond the 30 minute Granada one, which features in Soulboy - great editing on that by the way)...though....

  • @

Yeah, I appreciate that but no trouble was one of things that made the scene so 'special' .. I know they had their reasons. Took me right back there though :))

  • @TooDarnSoulful MATE IF YOU DON'T THINK THERE WAS A DARK SIDE TO WIGAN CASINO YOU ARE KIDDING YOURSELF EARLY DRUG DEALING OF BLACKS, BLUES AND BOMBERS SORTA GIVES IT AWAY!

    DIVVY

  • @SOULSNOB

wtf had drugs got to do with punch ups inside the place - never seen it ....divvy ktf

  • @TooDarnSoulful YOU ARE LOOKING THROUGH ROSE TINTED SPECS MATE!

  • @SOULSNOB

I have to disagree went for many years and did not see one fight at ANY northern soul nighter or dayer, only commenting on what I have experienced. :)) ktf

  • thos was the days not the same now

  • Hmmmmmm Nichola Burley.... I love you.....x

  • See this at Bath Film Festival Weds 10 November!

  • went to wigan to see it, took me back, good film

  • Anyone know if Soulboy is going to be released in States??? or be shown at any of the US film festivals???... i'm gutted to be missing it!...

  • @123embug We had one screening recently in LA... otherwise you can sign up on our website for more details...

  • @123embug Screening in New York March 12th at The Craic Festival, Tribeca Cinema, 54 Varick St.

  • it says 1974, yet they play tracks that werent discovered untill the late 70s...

  • Had the pleasure of seeing the film last night at the Glasgow Film Theatre with Q&A with Martin Compston afterwards....amazing =o) .....he learned the moves in 4 weeks, impressive! A must see, if you get the chance folks... x x x

  • Seeing this in Portsmouth. Dancing, film, then more dancing

  • waiting to see this..im from stoke

  • Fights and drink fuelled violence? Not captured it at all. The main kid man a tit of himself at the 100 club and at Stoke-pushing dancers around nd knocking over tables of drink-I never saw owt like it----is this some idea of a joke?

Perhaps an establishment plot to try and manipulate the Northern scene which is doing quite well without the help of Corporate London thanks (not meant as an insult to the many thousands of Soulies in that area obv and the great nites they put on )

  • @magiclard good point mate, artistic bullshit they call it,i went along as an extra[ dancer],they could've brought in" the life on mars" type of thing in for what was going on around the scene,it'll be interesting to see how well it does and wether it brings new blood into the scene- the scene needs it,or they could've shown us as the original ravers,if it had'nt been for us ,then allnight licences would've developed in a much different direction,if at all maybe? ktf pete

  • @petegroover cheers Pete spot on we all know what should have been portrayed except the people who made the film perhaps KTF Sean

  • Selling loads of northen on ebay ! adeyk1 KTF

  • Does anyone know if there will be an American release?

  • @InTheMoodForSandy Hope so.. you can sign up on our website to be kept up to date...

  • I was told by a freind who knows the guy ( an original Soulboy and brilliant dancer himself) who helped with the choriography. He was going nuts about the clapping above the head thing, but was told it was to be kept for visually dramatic reasons . IE nobody/the camera will see people clapping in front of themselves. Looks ridiculous, but I see the Directors' point.

  • Its great that a film has been made about the Northern scene and Wigan Casino, but ultimately it will never re-create the sheer excitement and vibe of being there during its heydays. I have very fond memories, and a few "interesting" ones, of Wigan Casino. Travelling from NE Scotland for a night of dancing and back in the morning was a bit of an adventure to say the least.

  • For all those who have kept the faith!

  • Cat spins, swallow dives and 'Spencers'!

  • @jonoar90 Are you sure?. I couldn't find it there, which tags should I use when searching?.

  • Just seen the film in Wigan - and I know people won't like me for this but I didn't like it - AT ALL! I went there for 3 years off and on so I am speaking from my own experience only. The dance scenes are not synchronised to the music so people look as though they are just moving around with no purpose. I rememeber being blown away by how tight all the dancers were to the beat. The final dance scene is embarassingly lame. I never saw a fight.. No mention of WHY we loved the music. Sorry

  • happy days , never be another wigan casino,,,,,,,KEEP THE FAITH.......

  • OMG....memories are made of this....

Wigan Casino....hitching a ride from York to Wigan...crapping myself doing it.

  • I agree with the break dancing bit slackrabbit.

Also the hand clapping above their heads.

Wigan looked authentic though from the small bit you could see in the clips.

Although a bit bright and not too packed.

  • this actually looks quite good, normally i hate all those dancing movies, maybe its cause its not american

  • Looking forward to seeing it. Looks authentic. apart from the breakdancing move at the end of the clip.

  • Must Must Must See Movie Cannot Wait.

    Keep The Faith

  • Must Must Must See Movie Cannot Wait.

     Keep The Faith

  • This film was shown at the iow scooter rally. Awesome a must go see.

  • Looking forward to seeing this!

  • Looking forward to seeing this!

  • This is the bomb,!!!!,...the good old days. :)

  • wicked film. plus wicked night at the premier

  • Soulman Dave Brown's Size 10's well worth the ticket price !!!

  • We said 'birds', not 'chicks'. And we didn't go to niters for the birds anyway, we went for the music, and to dance. There were no fights either.

  • @niacom8 and no bright lights, it was dark with uv and no over head clapping when dancing they must of got that from the pic when Tommy Hunt was on stage. Like most british films that involve working class culture it falls victim to over characterisation. Only films like Kes (Loach) etc get it right.

    Ney mind

    Great days

    KTF

  • @TonyD38166 Yeah, Kes was great! Dead on fantastic film!

  • @niacom8 EXACTLY KTF

  • @intelectr

    I think it's Gloria Jones .

  • Can anyone tell me the title of the tracks used in this trailer?

  • @NewMastersound gloria jones tainted love and world column so is the sun

  • @NewMastersound

    Tainted Love _ Gloria Jones

& So Is the Sun by The World Column

  • So Is the Sun by The World Column

    gloria jones tainted love

  • when this come out??

  • Saw it at the Big Chill festival. Plenty of scenes from the "This is England" documentary used in it. Overall pretty good though

  • can't wait

  • Nice that someones at least giving the scene recognition on the big screen. Of course the old timers like myself and thousands more could pick serious holes in just this short take. Eg, whilst relationships did indeed happen and flourish on the scene, in all my years I never ever saw anyone 'snogging' at an all nighter, it was just a no,no. The boy/girl thing appears a bit div (too Bailey's) and far too much smiling and err,,no dilated pupils but the sounds are about right!

  • Plenty of mistakes, windmill, fights, even the clothes and i never ever went there to meet girls, i went to dance, but hell let's be positive it look a great film on an amazing music scene based on the casino itself. You never know, it might just get some more new blood checking out Northern Soul. Plan on doing the Stoke All-nighter to view the film then dance. KTF

  • Can anyone tell me wen this film is being Released???

  • @TimeAnMoneyFreedom - Release date is Friday 27th August (or so I'm told). On the same night I'll be doing a DJ spot with Wigan Casino founder Russ Winstanley at the Medicine Bar in Middlesbrough. So I'm really looking forward to that!

  • @TimeAnMoneyFreedom 21st AUG kings hall stoke 7-9pm then allnighter to follow

9pm-9am tickets £20 from stoke tourist board...this has already been shown at the Edinburgh film festival 3 month ago

  • Felicity Jones!! Love her!

  • ...and the probably don't mention The Twisted Wheel Club but hey!! At last someone has put a film out about the Roots of Dance Music Culture. Right On!

  • @elvispreseli

i agree and proably not a mention for The Torch either-or numerous other smaller clubs ie. the catacombes, va va's etc etc.

from what ive seen of this vid, i cant help but to think i wish they would have had a bigger crowd-thats what made the very special atmosphere of the casino-and the music didnt half BLAST out!!! maybe that atmospheres not repeatable? but hey.. theyre only small things-i still think its good that this films been made..
