  • I go school with her little sister!! ;D

  • In my mind, Heno is one of the most beautiful Ms Aloha Hula ever .. her gracefulness and aloha is so natural, making all the more amazing to watch :)

  • ive said this before, but ill say it again. hula makes all women beautiful, and all womens beauty is shown through hula.

  • @DaHawaiian990 i've danced at Merrie Monarch for a few years now, and let me tell you something about the Hula Mafia, they're even more intense in person, and so obviously favored.

  • To those making a big deal about the weight issue.. GET OVER IT.. To those people that are praising the full figure.. GOD BLESS YOU FOR LOVING CULTURE AND TRADITION NO MATTER WHAT!!!

  • Oh I so love this performance..her grace combined with kealii's beautiful voice just takes my breath away. She's beautiful and I like the style in which she dances, it has strengthened my love for this mele:)

  • She has changed over the years. I thought she'd loose weight cuz of the hard training, but it seem to me she gained instead(( Not tooo inspiring(( Well, at least she moves same magical way... :)

  • @Krasnodarka. do you know her? How can you say that she is not inspiring? Why should she change who she is? While I have only met her once, I know that she has a heart of gold and watching her dance is an inspiration in its self. Aside from hula this Miss Aloha Hula is perpetuating her culture beyond cameras eyes. Most of the leading women in hula and in Hawaiian cultural are full figured and are leading the way for the next generation. Now tell me how "Not tooo inspiting" she is?

  • @namele05, please don't get upset. All I was talking about is weight. Looking at hula dance you can see it a very hard work of the hole body and I'm just surprized to see a peson who obviously dances for years gaining weight instead of loosing. I'm sure Cherissa is very inspiring in every other way accept for this one. That's all I ment. There's no need in defending, cuz I'm not ataking. By the way - why do you think hard training and seas of swets had an oposite effect on this dancer's figure?

  • @Krasnodarka, you're right no need to get upset or to give this conversation anymore life than I already have. Please excuse my actions and my words if I have offended any one. To Cherissa, mahalo for being such a true gem to hula and Hawaiian community. Know that the work that you produce is truely appreciated and admired no matter what your size. E malama pono!

  • @namele05 , thank you for those words. I also appologize if you felt offended by my comment. The most important is that we both respect and love this dancer for many other things, and that she deserves it. Peace:)

  • @Krasnodarka I'm curious why you think her weight isn't inspiring? Her size isn't necessarily unhealthy, and furthermore, exercise doesn't make everyone bone and stick. Have you see some of the best belly dancers worldwide are plus size and some bigger than her. I think she's beautiful at her size and I would aspire to be as lean and fit as she obviously is..

  • @khaltubibi well, what can I say... I've never been to Hawaii, may be gens of Hawaians are somehow different so this kind of weight is normal and absoulutely doesn't effect the work of the inner organs and blood circulations, does not increase blood pressure or cause heart conditions... Europians are different at this point, so I figured(looking at mine and my fellows overweight) that it's same thing for our organisms as for Hawaians - not a good way to be. But may be I'm wrong. It's ok.

  • here is another beautiful dancer..go ahead, just dance>>>>>>>>>>just dance>>>>everyhing going to be okay...just dance...

  • Ah Heno, u are still the best Miss Aloha of them all, mahalo :)

  • Her hula was allright.......I think if she danced for another kumu she wouldnt have won...The judging at merrie monarch is favortism.... You gotta be a part of the Hula Mafia to win there.... Just my opinion from watching Merrie Monarch for the past 30years. Aloha.

  • ka nohona pilikai

  • Thanks :D

  • hermozo!!

  • Lo mejor es la cancion... creo que hubo mejores concursantes pero al igual bien!

  • Just wonderful! Mahalo nui for posting this. She reminds me of my sista big time and I'm glad the judges saw past what some think is "the" perfect figure/look. To me, her dance is as graceful and beautiful as she is. Great singing by Keali'i as well. Well done.....Hana hou! Himene hou.......

  • does anyone have her kahiko performance?

  • Beautiful!!!!!......

  • It's really nice to see that no one here, so far, has berated Henohea and Keali'i for this performance. I forgot how rude, ignorant and naive people can be. This was their first time performing at the Merrie Monarch, and I thought they did a wonderful job. Hanahou!!

  • lovely well done!!!!

i wish i could dance as graceful as she did to this song!!!

  • HANAHOU!!!!!

  • Beautiful and graceful Heno, Mahalo for showing your sweet style of hula.

  • At Merrie Monarch night, I didn't know why she won. Authentic but old school...

2 weeks later, I kind of started to feel her grace.

Now... I love it. Yup, it took time but she's got me, totally.

  • I agreed!

I have always wanted a full figure to win the Miss Aloha Hula and it came true. I did this song for ASL competition and my teacher told me about this and I'm really proud!!!!

    Mahalo!!! :-)

  • @brownroy000 I agree, her curves are beautiful and natural, and she really embodies what everyone thinks as feminine.

  • @brownroy000 I agree, her curves are beautiful and natural, and she really embodies what everyone thinks as feminine, and elegant. Seeing her on some random pass thru peaked my interest in Hula, if I hadn't seen her by accident I wouldn't have kept watching hula, ONLY because sh'e full figure i'm interested.

  • @brownroy000 from 2006-2009 all the girls that won were all on the bigger side. but still GORGEOUS everyone of them.

  • THIS SONG IS AMAZING

  • Beautifully danced and well deserved!

  • Maika'i! Maika'i! Maika'i! 'O ko'u tita kela.

I'm so very proud of her! From the moment i saw her walk on stage for hula kahiko, i knew she is the new Miss Aloha Hula 2009.

From when she took care of me when i was a baby, till now she still embraces her love of our Hawaiian culture, and also her love for our family through hula.

    I love you Heno!!!!!

  • Magnificent!

  • Ho'omaika'i!
