arveal looking horse"the keeper of the pipe" said "we our going to have another dust bowl in this generation, the buffalo are gone from the plain's and we are using up the natural underground water that is left from the last dust bowl.we as a nation need use less and less nested of more and more. that wasthe words of arveal looking horse of the sioux people.
Great video I saw this the other day when we where trying too understand the era when "of mice and men" set and it nearly made me cry because it shows the worlds most powerful nation struck down.
at 2:26 was in my 5th grade history book,my drandma was only 8 or 9 years old when the dust bowl happend, and i know alot of american indians from my moms side who were alive when it happend and have told me that if the farmers and ranchers keep doing what thay are doing and not use the land like it is meant to be it will happen again. i love the pics show's a grate and sad history of the usa.
I remember the Dirty 30s when I was living in Wichita, Kansas and I have never forgot Easter Sunday 1935 also called Black Sunday. I remember helping Mother put wet rags around and over the windows and doors. The Depression was survivable compared to the Dirty 30s. I enjoyed the music, the video and the memories.
this is what the rich corporations want to happen to people again and they don't care. Long as they live in their Ivory towers and get to bloe tyheir money on crap they don't need to survive!
my aunt lived and suffered in that age, along whith her brothers! she lost her mother from cancer in 1945, they were all mexicans, and I think mexico sufferd worst than US during that depression!
@MrShapiroman It wouldn't surprise me in the least. Mexico has struggled for so long, and it looks like it only has more hardship ahead. It seems every step this world makes, we take two steps back.
This was a man-made crisis and right now, as we speak here, there are people working hard to put the world on its knees, instigating hate and war. We could soon face hard times, not just for hysteria but for greed. Depression for regular folks means hunger and misery, depression for those who control the world means GOLDEN YEARS.
@chichopluma You are 100% right, bringing the world to depression means a big chance to ride the economical wave from beginning and make huge wealth. Actually we are heading to a great depression, larger to that in 30's
No but i believe that the hysteria created by freeloaders not geting their Welfare checks would spark civil unrest, violence, and would offently lead to the military geting involved with civilian affairs, and it would only take one spark to ignite off a civil war the way things are divided today.
real question is... Would we as a nation be able to survive it again. esp. in this new technology age. If this Govt shutdown goes through.... we yall.... be ready.
The depression didn't end for a long time. It supposedly ended in the early 40s, but for a lot of us it carried on into the early 50s. My Dad worked long hours at the Live Stock yards at $3.00 a day. Wasn't much, but when you have a wife and 4 kid's to feed, it was something. I didn't know we were poor cause every body else was poor. We all shared and helped each other. There were times when there was only odds and ends to eat. I wonder if we'll be useing rationing stamps again? I still have som
You have real talent. This was so beautiful...the melancholy of the music perfectly enhanced the wretchedness in a tender and sympathetic way. I loved how you captured so many important pieces of the era. I also was impressed with your timing and photo effects. My students were absolutely silent...mesmerized by it, and a few even had tears. Well done!
I remember the Dirty 30s. Black Sunday happened in 1934 when the a large dust cloud was so thick everything outdoors was a dark. My Folks couldn't stuff enough wet rags around the windows and doors to keep the dust out of the house.

Our spirit remains undaunted in the direst of circumstances. will we allow ourselves to experience this again? I certainly hope not.

Yeah, not technically. But I meant it was a very poor country, mostly. That's why I used the quotation marks.

The dust-bowl story might be a simple warning that the ploughing/monoculture/fertilizer approach has it's shadow sides...
