All i can remember is that, the lion was shot after the natives complaint of attacks on human by this particular lion. I think the man who shot the lion actually went to Africa for surveying the virgin land for the first time. In regards to the Maasai, their tribal customs of killing lions as a sign of manhood has done more to desimate Kenya's lion population. The stupid comments about filling tags is irrelevent as there were no limits back then. Hunting of these predators should be restricted to old/sick lions. Yes, some native tribes are ignorant about it, but from what I've seen, there is tremendous effort from peoples all around the globe to save these animals. I don't see any reason to keep lions around really. What part of the ecosystem do they provide? Being predators they provide the least amount of biomass back to the earth and are eating innocent herbivores that provide more biomass. Yes, some native tribes are ignorant about it, but from what I've seen, there is tremendous effort from peoples all around the globe to save these animals. Look at the Park Rangers of the Masai Mara, or the Park Rangers in Virunga National Forest - those men put their LIVES on the line to save these animals!

I don't see any reason to keep lions around really. What part of the ecosystem do they provide? Being predators they provide the least amount of biomass back to the earth and are eating innocent herbivores that provide more biomass. Humans are the strongest predators of the savannah and it's better that we preserve our lives over a bunch of animals that have no future.
