man these guys rock... every song is so fricken good and different than the last..... even each song in the suite is different but has a gentle reminder of the overall theme....
It takes a lot of balls to admit one has an addiction, whether it's alcohol, drugs or anything you can think of. The 31,000+ hits here are people that have a clue what Portnoy went through or they can relate. This is a very epic track and can get to your emotions if not prepared to listen. Regret is very tough to deal with when you let the bottle rule your life. Before a hater begins hating on this, listen to it carefully and with thought.
OH MY GOD THAT SOLO IS EPIC. People claim 90's Petrucci is more epic than todays Petrucci. In my opinion, everything he touches turns to gold, and the year he does it in doesn't really matter because IT'S ALL FREAKIN' EPIC!!!
invited friends and fellow musicians Mikael Åkerfeldt, Jon Anderson, David Ellefson, Daniel Gildenlöw, Steve Hogarth, Chris Jericho, Neal Morse, Joe Satriani, Corey Taylor, Steve Vai, and Steven Wilson to record spoken apologies, regrets, and sorrows of their own..
Portnoy wrote "Repentance" as the fourth part of his Twelve-step Suite, a collection of songs from various Dream Theater albums which revolve around his journey through Alcoholics Anonymous. The song discusses steps eight and nine of the process, which deal with making a list of people whom one has wronged and, if possible, making direct amends with them. Portnoy, who as of 2007 had been sober for 7½ years,
@BloodHarvest21 The creator of alcoholics anonymous had often said that LSD is a natural and inevitable cure for alcoholism. So I wouldn't be so sure...
Nice, Steps 8th and 9th are pretty hard, but with overwhelming relief afterwards. And the Promises in the song... good one, really lovely, thanks for that DT.
I've been listen to Dream Theater for 2 years and Opeth for 1 year and I noticed this song is like, really similar to the sound of Opeth, and it even has Mikael Akerfeldt in it, which is even cooler. In my opinion, this could have been Dream Theater's take on Opeth, and their take, on showing that they could probably cover ANY band.
One of DT's best. Definitely one of the best of all times when you consider the lyrics as well. Here's the recipe for a better life. It sounds so simple. The length of the song is just fine, with or without the Ahhhhs, which underline an important message. I don't understand how the one Thumbs-Down person got lost on this page when in truth he must have been looking for Hannah Montana.
Ever since PotatoBoy left, finding studio verisons of DT has been hell. I thank you all who re-uploaded them all for us, especially Vazoras and kyledawg92.
By far the best track on this album, quite likely DT's best track in their career and probably one of my favourite songs ever.

7:10 forms the basis for the theme of Opeth's Hessian Peel track from Watershed.
