@tylerbirch26 There is no GPS chip in the iPod touch but there are options, the TomTom Car Kit for iPod Touch (about $79), and the Magellan Premium Car Kit for iPhone and iPod Touch (about $150). Both of these units have built-in GPS chips to provide GPS functionality to the Touch. They also have built-in speakers to amplify the spoken directions, audio line out, and other features. They also charge the Touch as you drive.

@IS49VAS you need to be outside so if you are in a building the phone does not have line of sight to the sky and will not pick up GPS. Go outside and you should be fine.

When you're in the "Show Map" feature do you have a "P" button (parking) appear on top left? Mine always displays despite the fact I've disabled the categories view and reinstalled the application several times. After contacting Navigon they assured me the "P" button was there by design and can NOT be removed??? Just doesn't make sense to me at all so wondering if its a bug or odes that appear for everyone? I have a 3Gs.

mocciat, just one comment: Take Me Home should NEVER be used to actually take you home directly, due to saefety reasons if the phone gets stolen, they'll know where you live. what I did was I set my garmin nuvi to a public location near my home in case I lost it.

NAVIGON is the best but (motionx gps drive is by far the best value) i got it on sale for $1 and it works just as good as the navigon but is a little bit slower with updating. nothing drastic if your looking to just get a basic gps app incase you get lost get motionx. great review

To (flipkid) essentially you don't need any data since the maps are on your device... But what the iPhone more specificly the 3G and 3G S have that the iPod and iPhone 2 G don't have is a GPS Chip... But rest assure there is a cure... TomTom and Magellan both sell a car kit... Or cradle with a GPS chip to enhance or to work with the device with lacks the GPS chip... Downside? They sell for $120.00. At that point it's more of IF you want to buy it vs. just getting a stand alone system.

Great job on the navigon demonstration...I just bought the app last week and it worked very well. I found out the reason i was getting too many caution warnings is that i was exceeding the speed limit. You can set the speed limit warnings in the app.

The "Caution" is not for construction, it is because you have acoustic warnings on for speed limit. so if you are speeding it will say "caution". You can set the speed for the warning at 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 over the limit.

Hey that's a great review. The only thing I would have prefered to see is some filming out the window whilst watching the navigon (it's tricky but it is possible to achieve) this way we could see how accurate it was running as it passed junctions and bridges, roundsbouts etc. The way you filmed it we have no idea of the lag the system runs at. But many thanks for a great review.

Yes. Only requires a GPS satellite to be able to lock on to you. Doesn't require a cellular signal.

I have this and the TomTom app. Here's a quick comparison:

Navigon Pros (vs TomTom): Lane Assist, which is cool. Graphics are nicer. I can switch to 3d/2d in one touch, Text-to-Speech (verbal street names)

Navigon Cons (vs TomTom): Memory hog. Can't multitask (ex: Pandora + Navigon) because 3G doesn't have enough memory for both. Can't choose voice. Less settings/config.

I've only used Navigon 1 day, and so far i like it better than TomTom mostly because of Lane Assist.

Ok I fixed my problem by resetting the network settings in the general settings area. After reset I went out and loaded up google maps to pinpoint my location and waited for 5 minutes to get a good signal. After that I loaded up Navigon and it works perfect.....everytime. It's been 3 days since and I may have gottent he red bar once for like 5s. if anyone is having any issues try what I did. You may surprise yourself.

Navigon would be 5 stars if it had the search function.

Think the caution was most like because you were going over the speed limit posted. There is an option to turn it off though.

I love the Navigon software on the iphone, you can actually HEAR the instrctions, as opposed to G-map.

Needs a general search feature, and route summary instead of just the simulation.
