@sarcastdeathcraft This is the main problem were the windows installed is not genuine, it may not say it but if it cannot hold the background then it isn't genuine, this or either the battery on the motherboard has ran out and it cannot hold data for long enough without mains power.

but i got rid of windows 7 about a month ago and im happier with linux :)

i got win 7 x64 xp x64 and w98se on a VM and i can run them all at once! 4 os's at once :P

you should try a linux os on a live CD and you never have to install it to your computer!

On a mac, you just right click and select "change desktop background" and voila you can easily change it.

@420bmxer Actually Windows has more looks than you think. There's multiple backgrounds, as well as screen savers, taskbar color options, and more! Linux is not mentioned often, and does it have a video editing software (I use Pinnacle Studio 14 Ultimate on a Windows 7)? Also, Linux doesn't have as much popularity as Windows/Mac IMO.

When I went to un-check it It was already unchecked; meaning i should be allowed a desktop background. I still don't know why my software won't allow one but whatever. Thank you for your time! Most of you people are completely missing the point here. Seven is not targeting a power user -- The likes of those using KDE/Gnome/etc. Seven is targeting the casual user. The same market Apple has been aiming for.

Also, rotating backgrounds may be something included in OSX, but there have been third party apps doing the same in windows since win95. Not exactly new, though it is a welcome addition.

Best operating system out there? Not likely. Best version of windows to date? Without a doubt.

I've been using KDE 4.3 for some time now. I must say that compared to the innovative, powerful, and very pleasant to use KDE desktop, the Windows 7 desktop is an irrelevant waste of space, an exercise in mind numbing mediocrity.

Once you've been using something like KDE4 for a while, you watch video's like these and they become a surreal joke.

I have to agree. I use both Gnome and KDE and I do have Windows 7 on my computer as well. When I saw "personalizing my desktop," and it mostly involved wallpaper changes and color changes, I had to laugh. The rotating windows thing from Vista was slower than the previous method of clicking til you find what you're looking for. I thought they would have borrowed multiple desktops. If they did, I couldn't find it.

To me, customization is changing the visuals, UI layout and functionality. I'd hazard a guess that the majority of mainstream users will never need more than this. Even as an advanced or pro-user, what more do you really need?

Maybe you can explain what you mean by customize? In Windows you can install DLL hooks to customize OS shell behaviour (via the Win32 SDK), you can extend or change visual styles, write drivers to change how you interact with devices/OS objects, etc.

Oh i see what you mean. Well you can customise windows alot more than their customization options. You can use things like uxtheme patches, even windows blinds. They all work! But the thing about windows 7 is, its so good looking, fast and compatible that you dont need to change a thing! Its fine just the way it is.
