@exiquio Stallman does not deserve any of the credit you are giving him. First off Open Source / Free Software movements were not something he created. They are just something he stole all the credit for. Unix and Apache for example were open and free environments long before Stallman stole the credit he has claiming he founded the movement. Firefox models it license like the BSD and Apache licenses, not the GPL, and Stallman has spoken out against both because he does not control them.

The type of software they use to produce the video / television aspect of the show does not have Open Source or Free Software counterparts that function even remotely like the software they currently use. DRM on software is a nightmare. I've bought 3 DRM controled items costing me a total of $100. Now my computer broke...after repair, I cannot get any of them to work, even though i've got the license receites and documentation of purchase, even a CD with manual/box, it makes no difference. The companies deny any responsibility (its in the contract small print).

They decided to add HDCP to the HDMI standard to force consumer upgrades if they wanted BluRay and/or HD cable or satellite TV. It is a pure scam!

They are just something he stole all the credit for. Unix and Apache for example were open and free environments long before Stallman stole the credit he has claiming he founded the movement. Firefox models it license like the BSD and Apache licenses, not the GPL, and Stallman has spoken out against both because he does not control them.

@ACatal1 Well, I don't know if it's "meant to be that way" but it sure seems to be that those with the least to offer humanity are the ones most people seem to believe simply because they SEEM smart spouting nonesense people don't understand BECAUSE it IS nonsense. You can bet that if the Am. people have just now heard of the twin censorship bills, they most likely have already passed in some form that can be found in the congressional record. Sometimes these type of bills are passed years before the public hears about them. Then when the public objects, there ensues a "tweaking" of the bill here and there, but whatever right is threatened is basically already gone.

The constitution does NOT protect copyright of Artists OR Corporations. It ONLY protects copyright of Authors and Inventors. The constitution has NOT been amended in regard to copyright. The grossly corrupt Supreme Court has issued "judgments" about copyright in recent years NONE of which site LAW. They instead site their personal disagreements based on their own claimed PERSONAL sense of morality against alleged copyright infringers of copyright law that doesn't even exist in any valid format.

To adjust fed copyright law would require a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT. The constitution is a limiting document stating the fed gov ONLY has the powers enumerated in THE CONSTITUTION. If it's not in the constitution it's not supposed to be done by the fed gov, meaning the fed gov are CRIMINALS for kidnapping people at gun point with NIL constitutional authority on fabricated charges of copyright infringement against invalid "laws" concocted by a criminal syndicate accepting orders from tyrants.

As for Microsoft..they are the biggest "scam" corperation on the planet. Every time they change their 'crap OS system' nothing works on it, so you have to go buy new software.
The best software is "freeware"..it works no hassle and if you really like it you can pay for full features. These companies must be doing well out of this freeware system otherwise they would not bother releasing with numerous patch upgrades.

DRM on software is a nightmare. I've bought 3 DRM controled items costing me a total of $100. Now my computer broke...after repair, I cannot get any of them to work, even though i've got the license receites and documentation of purchase, even a CD with manual/box, it makes no difference. The companies deny any responsibility (its in the contract small print).
WHO is being ripped off here.?.the companies or ME a honest customer.
I will never buy DRM software again no matter how good. SCAM.!!

I think GNU is a great idea and I hope becomes better, but as far as 14:20 "the encryption of video between a computer and a monitor", I think they have to do that just to agree on a standard--it's mostly for reasons of compatibility between devices.

@StopTheMorons The encryption of video is not because of a standard. RGB & HDMI connections are a standard. HDCP is a marketing ploy Sony enacted with other manufacturers because nearly everyone had upgraded to HDTV's prior to the digital switch. They weren't selling many so when they started producing BluRay they hoped sales would pick up & didn't. They decided to add HDCP to the HDMI standard to force consumer upgrades if they wanted BluRay and/or HD cable or satellite TV. It is a pure scam!

@StopTheMorons Nope he was speaking about all digital devices. PC's in general are the only one in that category that still have some respect for users. In a good way Linux exploits that fact. For example, if you build a HTPC to be your DVR, with Windows you are dealing with DRM on broadcast stations when there is no need for it being OTA. Linux does not. Windows does not support firewire capture from cable STB's because it is open to users. Linux does. I totally agree on obsessed with copyright
