  • 1.) It's tremendously satisfying to see Ayinde Barrister take to the floor again. His moves from 17:53ff are really a reprise of his dance in the 1988 video of his 40th birthday anniversary album, where he sings, "Omo o, e i pe dagba". There is a lot more bulk to shift now, but the grace and skill are still intact. Many may not know that Barrister and Sunny Ade were the two top dancers in Yoruba popular music, and the only recent addition has been Adewale Ayuba.

  • I like the way Ayinde Barrister uses his agbada when he dances: it's such a fine fusion of traditional Yoruba footwork and the swishes of costume of the masquerade (egungun or eegun) tradition; it remains in the dance traditions of the Yoruba in the New World, in Brazil and Cuba in particular. Interesting that Barry Wonder traces his lineage in the video to Ibadan egun performers! Does anyone have his "Barry at 40" album to post on youtube, and maybe the other one, "Orin nbe lenu Alhaji Agba?"
