The 79 was the last bus to East Kilbride, from Killermont St. Roddy used to meet his dad off it, the worse for wear; " a vision of love wearing boxing gloves and singing hearts and flowers". He was a prodigy at 15 and he's a genius now, if you listen, all our lives are in his songs. Once,(pissed), he told us he would go from Westwood to Hollywood, we saw the crescent he saw the whole of the moon.
My Daughter was born in 1988 with 'Somewhere in my heart' playing. I last saw her almost 11 years ago in Killermont Street, Glasgow. Always thought that was a bit strange.
you should make more effort to sort out that relationship breakdown instead of being maudlin online ! it is a beautiful song though and obviously has great resonance for you - do something about it
@aje2103 I'm not being 'maudlin'. I was just commenting on something that's happened in my life that was related to the songs. The 'maudlin' is your perception - not mine!
always reminds me of home when i used to catch a bus home at bus at buchanan st bus station (killermont st) when i hear this song, makes me homesick for glasgow
Its up there with 'imagine'. Very rare that this message gets thru these days. And many miss this most crucial point: the state Kills people in wars and then the media invites their families to go and wave them off in war ships. He is lamenting this situation this lack of class consciousness. What we all knew in the 1980's now seems profound and very little of this (in fact, none of this gets thru to the consumers today. Shopping in Selfridges whilst they fall in Afghan as they did in the Falk!!
His voice hasn't changed at all. I first heard this when I was in high school and for the first time I actually LISTENED to the words behind the music. He is a gifted songwriter who,if you close your eyes, can actually help you see the music.
I don't think he realised how he changed peoples lived with these songs. I didn't even have a soul until I heard his music. Wonderful video thanks for putting a smile on my face.
