  • this song has sort a religious feel to it along with love, heart and soul

  • god (not JOHN) i cant keep myself from tearing up every time i hear this

  • is it me or this album is kinda too emotional?

  • @Hellraiser2956 I've a feeling it could just be you on this one!

  • @eegamluap

    definitly not.

  • The more I listen to John the more peace it brings me. A beautiful version of a beautiful song, from a beautiful human being.

  • Love the song and the picture.

  • Sounds like me warbling with headphones on, listening to Tim, while drinking scotch and getting all emotional. Sorry John.

  • @hardtack444 if john needs the chile peppers why aren't they making music as good as him... or do they need him to be any good? just an honest question. :)

  • Who needs drugs after this?

  • Until this day, I was against John's choice to leave the Chili's, but I understand, I understand now where his heart is. This is beautiful music, and I grant him my utmost respect.

  • @Hardtack444 yeah...FUCK YOU!

  • @Hardtack444 He chose to do what he felt was his destiny at the moment, even with thousands of people putting pressure on him because they wanted him back in the band. Even if you don't like his solo music, that action, his search for happiness no matter what, makes you owe him some respect.

  • @Hardtack444 fuck off

  • @Hardtack444 he would be a fool if he valued the money and fame and music he made with the peppers. He did value the music, but he's doing what he wants with his life and can afford to do so

  • @Hardtack444 The Chili's suck.

  • i know some people say that a cover can never be better than the original but that shits just rediculous , i'd say if tim buckley were never to write this song, john would have, you can feel his emotions so deeply , and I feel it more when i listen to john then tim sorry to say, nothing against him he was a great man, and a great song writer but nothing can move me long john frusciante

  • Soooo beautiful

  • Great video!!!

    Grandma Mary

  • This is so honoust and fragile. Yes...haunting.

  • this song continues to haunt me in a beautiful way.

  • No matter who plays it or sings, this song is truly a masterpiece

  • i love it

  • There are many subtlties in life i can still appreciate, this is one of them. love your tasteinmusic, i appreciate from a far corner of the dark room, i sit, bound by chains i made, where i belong, forgotten.

  • unbelivable... i know this isn't his orginally but his ability to play and create astound me... absolutely great music

  • Tearjacker song

  • very haunting rendition!

  • All versions of this classic have a lot to be said about them, personally Tims' conveys true desperation laced with tragic inevitability, not a yearning to be understood but a final need to share his poetry. Amazing how a non descript piece of music is transformed by poetic meaning

  • this is not an original, this is from tim buckley, but johns version is great!!!!

  • Empyrean is so power full and deep as fuck!!! Muchos respect 2 JF

  • Just perfect.

  • here i am..

  • no words, just let your mind travel....

  • check out david grays version, its great too,not as good as johns though

  • just figuered out this song right now listening to 10 different versions of it on youtube and no capo necessary. love john Frusciante with all my heart his music is truly inspirational

  • Wow! John has a lovely voice, indeed!

  • Wrong. This is a great take on a good song.

  • the original is best. but frusciantes version is great also. imo way better than mortal coils version. that one is just plain annoying.

  • Beautiful cover of a very hard song to cover well.

  • una canción más q hermosa.. la música de John es indescriptible.. es única

  • John is a musical artist, he doesn't limit himself to guitar playing, he writes and sings as good as he plays guitar. I recommend you people to listen to the empyrean, his latest album. and shadows collide with people, curtains, inside of emptiness, ... as well.

  • whatever your compaints, this a very earnest and honest cover. He's focus is on Buckley's vocal delivery. He's swinging for the fences. He does a very nice job.

  • how fkn amazing is this

  • How's about NOT!

  • tim is of another planet....

  • Nice job, Sir.

  • I much prefer Cocteau Twins cover version

  • original and soft version...good work john...

  • Maybe in the field of writing and singing. John is a guitarist.

  • beautiful...ps. I agree the soundtrack sounds like it has some problems...

  • In simple terms, hauntingly beatiful.

  • sounds like he's singing in the shower...

  • yeah thats probably a digital reverb, or he literally recorded it in the shower. idk why people negged this comment.. it's true.

  • yes, it has the ambient sound of tiles in a bathroom and sounds like he's standing a few feet from the mic to pick up more of the room sound.

  • Well, he recorded the album in his living room. So it's not like the sound is gonna be amazing. I kinda like it though.

  • OK. that would explain it then. a home recording and maybe some vocals done in the bathroom for some unique acoustics. I wasn't slamming him in the previous post, it was more of an observation. he could probably do vocals in his attic and it would sound good. thanks for the info.

  • No problem man. I knew you wernt, i dont know why people will put you down for saying that. I dont think its a bad thing that it sounds like that. it sounds sorta nice.

  • This human being makes music like not other.

He's all about emotion. Incredible cover.

  • Yes! great version, but he says "puzzled as a new born child" just like Mortal Coil, when Tim Buckley says "puzzled as an oyster".

    Did anyone else catch this?

  • The album version of the song (from the album Starsailor, 1970) is "puzzled as a newborn child", the Monkees Show version (1968) is "puzzled as the oyster".

  • Comment removed

  • Johns version of this song completely embraced me. after being a fan of his, for some reason i felt this was some of his best vocals. simply beautiful....

  • John has put his soul into that song. It cannot be the same ´cause John and

Tim aren´t the same. This version is just fruscianteistic.

  • Tim Buckley's original is one of the most beautiful songs ever. John did a good job with it! I don't agree with the person who thinks This Mortal Coil's version is crap. Its not my favorite, but that is their interpretation.

  • Still prefer TMC version.... sorry

  • wtf are you crazy tmc version is crap

    1. Tim Buckley

    2.John Frusciante

    Last TMC

  • what a vocal!

  • very good version, very good musician

i think this mortal coil version is better, though.

but jf is indeed gifted, perhaps is too much to the red hot chilli peppers

  • The This Mortal Coil version is a remake and very nicely stylized. This JF version is a cover of the original Tim Buckley Song To The Siren from 1970?

  • is great... but dudes, don't say that anyone is the best if u didn't listen to everything... Life will be sad if u could know who is "the best" that easily... with a different attitude u'll enjoy more music. :)

Anyways, I like a lot JF (really much more than all the peppers stuff) and this is a very nice cover...

  • great cover.. congrats

  • I think this is the greatest music ever. John Frusciante in my opinion, is the greatest musician of all time. because the worlds view of music is perverted, he will never be given an award for his music, but me and other JF fans know that know one can ever come close to the beauty and emotion that John Frusciante captures. He is beautiful. He is the best. Period.

  • thank you for expressing that....you're so right...he turned my life around honestly...he's my savior and a prophet for this generation!

  • break

  • breathtaking

  • 1 of my fav songs he did a great job didnt expect that from a chillipepper

  • touching

  • My fav cover maybe of all time and I lay in admiration for a vocal second to none.

  • this album is maybe some kind of way back to niadra Lades and usually just a t.shit.....melancholic music...getting to your hearts...great ..john is unique

  • this is fantastic stuff, great cover. i haven't felt so deeply connected to a JF album since Niandra Lades....it truly speaks to my soul

  • That picture is from Frusciante?

  • breathtaking

  • i haven't payed attention to the lyrics AT ALL or looked them up for that matter, but just listening now i think maybe he's comparing a woman to a siren, as in she promised him lots but was the death of him :P

  • Yes it is a fantastic cover.

    A great reimagining

  • unreachable and central are the best on this album. its all great tho

  • great song but sung by JF it has another melancholic and powerful feeling...Tim did it great too. Both great.

  • this song resonates with me spirtitually in so many dimensions.

if you know anything about the Sirens in mythology, this song is about death and trickery.

its like man's last thoughts in musical form.

  • dude..have you noticed what u just said ? >>>"its like man's last thoughts in musical form. "........nothing closer to this...:)

  • one word..

    Angelic

  • WOw, thats just described the whole song in simplistics words, Fucking beautiful ! XD

  • yea true that

  • how is he gonna play all this songs live????

  • He's already said, he doesn't plan on touring for this album, he wants to continue writing.

  • at least if he's not touring he's using his time to create another masterpiece :D

  • Oh word!

  • i read on wikipedia that he doesn't plan on touring cause he wants to focus on writing more stuff

  • ouuu man....i hope he'll go on tour and comes to switzerland :-D

  • ((((((hear i ammmm))))))

  • my fav version of this song ever, simply amazing<3

  • why who sung the others?

  • its originally by tim buckley, but others have covered it like robert plant, thomas dybdahl, and many others.

  • ahh thanks i knew a few of those did i just wondered who the original was . thanks :)

  • Wow. That might be my favorite one yet. Simply amazing.

  • THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING!

Don't think I could have waited another week to listen to album!
