it's the character, he's not a professor- he says the "spanish channel" most Americans don't know the difference between Porteguese and Spanish - dialogue of chracters is not suppose to be technically correct, in fact it shows the character is not formally that educated, but has great wisdom. The screenwriter, I believe wrote it that way to show this

It sounds like those six minutes are over, and they were great for sure, but now you have to find a new way to make meaning for your life. As a sports psychology student I agree with Elmo on the glory of zero sum competion. Whether it invokes that much emotion is embedded in perception, which is subjective on a per person basis. It's a great show and I do own a copy...actually.

The movie was such a motivator at the time, and still touches me today. Brings back so many memories.
