  • TOP VIDEO!!!! More djs need to learn keys and to elevate the tempo not by pitch but by key notes.....its not just the beginner that has to get around this its some pros too.....if you ARE starting out as a dj WATCH AND TAKE THIS INFO IN!!!!

  • NEW Dope tracks comming Out Soon !!

  • Thans man. Helped a lot!

  • Who honestly clicked dislike...

  • and thanks!! =)

  • very good!

  • Thankyou for your lesson

  • what about one in C the another in E ans then G and then Gm

  • I would like to request if you can consolidate all your video in DVD and let me know where i can get the same.

  • You deserve a medal. You are that good in explaining things in to details also in an interesting and funny way. Great stuff. I am club DJ and happen to come across this clip randomly explaining the keys. There is no better way to explain this to a beginner or even a semi pro.

  • check out the virtual piano

    jus google for it

  • loved this video, thanks for the lesson! never no one explained me this!! great!! now i have to practice!! byebye

  • Super cool guy, and excelent advise

  • too much talking, about something you ve never done. Get some turntables, and show us what you mean, if you are so clever. What you dont know that the song also has harmony, not only melody. And that harmony often changes within the flow of the song. And another thing you have no idea about is that what you played was not mixing keys. But only playing in the key of c major. You need to get educated on music, dont waste your time talking bolox.

  • @LonelyWalker11 Oh shuddup, no, wait, do your own video 'cause you consider yourself to be SO clever!

  • @LonelyWalker11 he actually has like 29 sets of turntables/cdjs and has other videos of him showing how to do it on tt's. y do u have to be an ass, hes just trying to help ppl out, he wasnt trying to be "clever" or show off

  • @LonelyWalker11 before I say anything, have you checked out some of this guy's other videos? Chock full of information..and he usually has his turntables with him.

  • Awesome video and of course very original :-) Thanx

  • get the program "mixed in key" it will tell you the key of all of your tunes and i comes wit a chart to tell you how to mixed based of the key of the song!!! digital djs baby... who elce is running serato?? i wana know what he mixes with.... you need to step it up and start the video djing its the new shit... dont get left in the dust!!!

  • ROFL at the pub reference. Great bit of teaching!

  • Dude thanks so much.. It has been a help for sure. I love all your vids.

  • DAMN!...havent lived yet!... must find old drunk guy playing pjanoo :D.

    good vid btw

  • You have made my life much much better.

  • i wanna jam out with you dude

  • man... really good job! you are helping... a lot...

just a minor mistake: there are some key changes in classical music...

    these are called modulations...

  • some key changes in songs can actually really work!

  • You should know the keys in all your songs!

  • you opened my eyes man.. that was just super , never tought about it

  • i know what you mean mate and its nice to know some people actually care about Djin instead of these nobs that just say they can mix when like u say they just match the beat not the keys.. quality mate keep it up

  • the problem is, when you adjust the pitch on the deck to get it beatmatched, this adjusts the key also, so you may not be able to get both the key and the beat matched.

  • sometimes you can use this to your advantage, but obviously you have to study your mixes, by the way the key changes only if you change the pitch a lot, which makes songs sound weird anyway is better not to change the pitch too much, by choosing the tracks correctly you make everything match, thats why being a DJ is an art, even if a lot of people disagrees.

  • any change of pitch will change the key slightly, so it may not completely clash but it will be out of tune and may sound a bit off. sometimes you can get away with this though.

  • CDJs have a key lock feature.

  • as do many softwares, but it can sound crappy

  • yep can make a women sound an old man

  • no, the whole purpose of key lock is to keep the pitch the same while you change the tempo. it can have a noticeable effect on the sound quality though, especially in vocals and bass/drums

  • nobody dancing on the floor will take notice of "gone quality".

  • some will, it can be quite noticeable

  • amature... i notice everytime i go out in my town.. i always head to leeds or sheffield to Dj or go out now

  • cheatin thow aint it.. plus if you love what you do and work hard then u wont need it.. i say go back to the good old days where you have to really think

  • well thats it mate.. its the same with the pitch.. if u know your tunes then u can biuld up to your faster tunes one by one.. Djin is most certainly an art..

  • define an art...

  • anything creative,, or anyone with an imagination for it

  • Ok but how can you tell in which key the track is? If you have realy good memory you will know that track A and B works well together but how do we know about tracks that we are not familiar with, that we dont know well?

  • You work out the key when you buy the track. Write it on the CD or on the album cover. All of my music is key coded. I store my CDs in key order.

  • Ok but it still is not so simple. J gave us an example of building a harmony on a Cmaj scale. What if we start our set in f.e. Emaj? If you want to use this code system it has to be more complex i think.

  • As long as they keys of the 2 songs you are mixing are matched, it should sound OK. Of course, key matching is not the only thing. To see how to match them, check out djprince dot no and harmonic-mixing dot com Bear in mind, I studied aerospace engineering at uni, but failed grade 5 music at school, so I know NOTHING about music theory, but I do understand some physics behind it (of which there is plenty).

  • Learn to play the keyboard

  • the easiest way is to just listen to the two tracks together and if they sound good, use it, if not, try another track

  • Some of us (me) are tone deaf so this is very difficult. I need help.

  • actually unless the tunes are in the same keys

at least some of the notes will clash. But some clashes are good.

  • you are the best

  • the piano thing was very good example

  • Good job!really sounds nice!

    congratulations !

  • Why don't you do a video on the coding of they keys (1A, 1B, 2A... 12A, 12B) as used by mixshare dot com. This is a very good website/database for getting the key of your tracks, but they use the code as mentioned above, so C# = 3A (or something). All you have to remember is the numbering system and that 3A mixes well with 2A, 3B and 4A and not G Major mixes well with F flat, C# and D (or something like that).

  • this is a good idea! thanks j

  • @dja2364 is there a video on this now?

  • lmao it could sound absolutely atroucheous absolutely crap lol!! this piano belongs in the pub and every pub should have one since everyone is just drunk and its all fun LMAO!! great humor there man, and i do waffle lol!

  • Nice! I asked you if you could do a video on this like a few months ago!?! And you told me you would? I didn't think i was ever going to see it? Even though you probable forgot all about it and just ended up doing one anyway in which case thats ok to, Would like to see more on this though if possible? ;-)

  • ...they didn't even have mirrorballs either..only candles..rip that wax!

do you know roll out the barrel jonathan....

that was by wagner originally i think...?

    xxx

  • hay j i got a we program called mixinkey good for wat you talkin about

  • Yeah, I just let MixedInKey do everything for me ^_^

  • i wudnt say it does everything it doesnt mix the tunes that still the hard part puting tunes on that ppl will dance to

  • I know, I didn't mean it that way, it obviously doesn't mix for you. I just meant as far as keying all my tracks.

  • good vid

  • It would interesting to see how accurate the DJM-800 is at detecting the key of any given track. Or even how well it would detect a key change in say a jazz track.

  • I don't think it actually detects keys, but just allows you to change it.

  • Very good explanation there and well given point.

  • kewl vid

have u made any new furniture lately?

would be good to see an interesting table or sumthing !

  • I'd like to see that too, I really love the shelf's , would buy some of them 4 shure
