Ok their homepage was awsome, but they do not mention anything about generators or fuel tanks... Thats like 99% of this compound. No lights no dvd, lcd, playstation3, refrigerator, heat, airfilter: NOTHING. ONLY darkness and a bunch of hillbillies trying to get in.
@BizarroTactical That's a damn good question. Not sure if the tiny electrical system in those locks could create enough of a voltage surge to fry them. That's a mighty expensive hole if you can't get into it when you need to. Most electronic safe lock also have a conventional dial on them I've no clue why that one doesn't
I wish they would throw in an approximate price tag....
bet this one's more than an average up above ground. Not practical even if you live in it, since you'd have a mortgage for either/or/both...this is the biggest problem, life saving shelter is only for the wealthy or seriously skilled, motivated and still need some cash to do anything you do. The gov needs to start building some community underground shelters like Russia is doing for its citizens, can't believe they put us to such shame
@preparadox there is comunity bomb shelters. They are usuall in a=in the town library or police dep. however since the cold war ended there is not as much as a nuclear threat.
i wouldn't even have a house aboveground anymore, cuz i have a whole new one underground! my mailbox would just be sitting alone in an empty looking lot. the mailman puts mail in, i pop out of ground, take mail, and dissapear!
This is not a storm shelter, this is a house underground. Only the wealthy are going to be able to afford two houses, one above ground and another entire house below.
this unit would run you about $350,000 ++++ to have. this there is about $40,000 to $50,000 just in concete and that is not tuching the tip of the costs.
The door I think should be something stronger and if I were you I would stay out of that front hallway, pretty cool and somewhat unnessisary. If you would like to talk about atomic warfare message me.
@philipburtburt If they actually had a door like that, it would be well over a million doors, and frankly i can't see that technology for awhile anyway.
No entrance shower, air filtration system exposed in main living area, electronic keypads. For something so elaborate, I would have expected a bit more.
I'm not sure if we still need shelter against bombs, or anything then mother nature herself, but...damn. I mean, this is just awesome! I'd be interested if they could just make secondary homes, underground, or something, but still this is pretty damn impressive:D
@jibbinfilms Seriously? Well they would probably go for the capitol to kill the government, then we wouldn't have any government. And Kim Jong Il is kinda stupid. He planned to bring the moon to North Korea and display it. It's as big as the United States.
But think about this, how often does a nuculear bomb ignite locally? That thing was like a house, and how expesive would that be? The U.S. currently isn't having that many problems with nuculear wars. I think it's just a bit overdone.
@theretardpeep Aggreed that it is overdone, but on the contrary, both Iran and North Korea are threatening us with nuclear bombs, in my opinion it is almost Cold War: XX (well not 20 but XX sounds cool. like tallies)
with the electronic keypads for the blastdoors if the power went out and those got damaged that would be your coffin it aint the best design like the air filter right by the food no less. it would contaminate everything in a matter of minutes.
Nevermind the fact that you always install backup power to your shelter (so the keypad would be powered), and that's likely an NBC filter system so it won't contaminate anything, rather DE-contaminate the air.
souldent the vault door to the storge room be on the other way soo you have to enter the pass code to get in then get out and whats in the roof hatch?
From the looks of it, the designers have not taken blast and ground shock into account when designing this shelter. There's little or no earth arching to attenuate blast pressure on the earth above the structure. There also appears to be no consideration for ground shock, such as large springs to float on or materials that will flex with earth movement. Even reinforced concrete will fail catastrophically under these conditions.
Funny thing about an emp blast is that vacuum tube equipment can survive it unlike solid state so this chessy butt rock music their playing can go on and on and on.
Electricity would be fine. Ever hear of batteries? Hand-cranked generators? These shelters are built with such things. A lot of them actually have exercise bikes that can generate a surprising amount of electricity, and those lights are probably low-wattage, maybe even LED, so they use maybe 10 watts each.
The people that build these things actually TEST them...as in, they spend time living in them for real to determine how self-sufficient they are.
yeah does sound kinda nasty to me to, i think a good bottled water supply would work fine for awhile, atleast long enough if there was a nuclear strike , to have enough water for atleast a few months maybe a years worth of distilled water, that be enough time for the raidiation to die down atleast to non lethal levels i would think but then again im no scientist
emp burst from warheads make all cars etc. and generaters hand crank or otherwise not function.look it up .physics 101, there probably not bomb shelters
not true I thought so also look up (farraday cage) your car is inulated by big rubber tires theres actually a good chance of survival, and wrapping your phones CB's small electronics in foil zip lock bag foil and another zip lock will ensure survival of small electronics, bigger faraday cages are easy to make also.
What do you mean radiation would come through the toilets? You are aware, aren't you, that radiation is electromagnetic rays that travel in a straight line? It's not going to creep up through the toilet like some horror movie death-fog.
your right but only about gamma rays from the initial blast.
nuclear fallout actually could im afraid but only if the toilet was connected to the outdoors which would be fucking useless after a nuclear war, so you would need 2 hugggggeeeeeee tanks one full of water and another for your shit.
@WhindSoull Maybe not radiation, but you never know when you might get a shit demon like the one in Dogma. Given the choice, I think I'll take my chances with the radiation! :-)
What are you talking about. Radiation is a ray that travels outward in all directions from the radioactive dust. You shield yourself from it by putting as much matter between yourself and the dust outside from the bomb.
I think it looks nice and I like the wash rooms. Certainly can see the point that it is way fancy but who is buying these, rich people.
What concerns me more is that of the three doors is that all three doors are on the same side of the shelter. What happens when that side gets blocked or collapsed?
I understand the need to have at least one door opening out...so you can secure the site when you leave but wouldn't REAL blast doors be better? Those look like gun safe doors.
at 1:08 and 2:08 you can see the width of the door, it looks to be 4 inches thick and would suppose a good portion of that is steel... Maybe it's built well enough to open easily when unlocked
One slight problem with the shelter; if there was a nuclear blast the EMP would destroy the electronic locks on all of the doors. You should change them out to a regular combination lock.
theres a difference between EMPs and nuclear blasts, if it is an emp blast, then your right the locks are screwed . however if it is a normal nuclear blast, then the locks will not be effected
rawmonster662: Nuclear explosions produce a powerful electromagnetic pulse for about 2 milliseconds. Most shelters that are advertised to shelter people from nuclear fallout (never an explosion) sometimes have a Faraday cage like mesh built around the shelter or around sensitive electronics.

May I ask of what the hell is the point for that second washroom looking one that has tin or metal sicks?? 2 washrooms beside each other.. and the layout is veryy bad, bedrooms look like you have to walk through one another to get to others, how much did THAT one cost??
Imagine being stuck in the same room with your entire family and friends and anyone else who is lucky enough to be saved from whatever it is that your hiding from...all these people...they might want to use the bath room at some point...unless there robots.
my question still isn't answered and it's like what, 3 months now. That's what I thought! BTW, whoever designed that layout should be kicked in the balls
not really...if you own property you can build your own....its not terribly hard to do. and you do NOT need to be ultra rich or just plain rich to do so...gather your family and work on it together, all the materials can be found at the hardware store or used.
No. A basement would be under the house. This is away from the house and burried underground entirely. You actually don't even need the house They can be built as stand alone units.
only problem with that idea is that even with a filtered system, with infared lighting thru (some of you konw what i'm talking about), this will not smoke. or stop carbon dioxide.. away from the house or not, my idea is still superior in every way.. ask me sometime if you really are interested. i use a specific lead based crystalline based concrete and paint system, as well as a 'twisted downturned' oxygen enrichment system" none of that simple turned down looking pipe setup, thats old school
I know most of those rooms are quite narrow, but the living room looks very spaced, if a ton of proper protection is above the roof, there should be supporters otherwise that roof would collapes from the pressure.
you wanna know why he got locks on the door? here is why. lets say there is a nuclear disaster right..ok well lets say there are some other survivors out there also, they just got lucky. then they see this underground shelter. this is the place where all of YOUR stuff is. in natural instinct what do you think that survivor would do? RAID, thats what. now when he opens that door he is letting in radiation and on top of that he might try to kill you to get your food since he dont have any. think..
I contacted you guys by phone about a shelter quote and some information but never heard back from your guys. I'm really impressed with the video. How expensive is a shelter of that magnitude?
Can i live there?

No. A basement would be under the house. This is away from the house and burried underground entirely. You actually don't even need the house They can be built as stand alone units.

A lifetime locked in a badly decorated basement listening to a porn soundtrack--I'd rather be dead.

How do you get clean air in a shelter, esp in case of fallout?
gibbs4life17 2 years ago 2
There is an NBC air filtration unit installed so that you can get filtered air.
paulbumgardner 2 years ago
only problem with that idea is that even with a filtered system, with infared lighting thru (some of you konw what i'm talking about), this will not smoke. or stop carbon dioxide.. away from the house or not, my idea is still superior in every way.. ask me sometime if you really are interested. i use a specific lead based crystalline based concrete and paint system, as well as a 'twisted downturned' oxygen enrichment system" none of that simple turned down looking pipe setup, thats old school

I know most of those rooms are quite narrow, but the living room looks very spaced, if a ton of proper protection is above the roof, there should be supporters otherwise that roof would collapes from the pressure.

THAT is under ground?! Wow, wicked!!!!
KidVlogger317 2 years ago
The best thing about living underground, besides lower heating and cooling bills, would be,
not being woken up by your neighbours lawnmower on fricken' SUNDAY MORNING!
or the kids next doors dirt bikes or the idiot next door "tuning" his damn V8.
As you can guess I'm not a morning person! lol
cyberteque 2 years ago 3
Actually they are heavily reinforced and have BNC filtration. so they are both.

Aren't these actually "fallout" shelters?
mediamadman747 2 years ago
there is a calculator on the northwestsheltersystems. com the only other cost would be for a site evaluation if it is not local.
paulbumgardner 2 years ago
Honey, I thought I told you to straighten the living room. We are having our neighbor with the 3 arms and two heads over today.

What exactly is the purpose of having the lock on the outside of the door?
Are people really so snobbish they have to have fine cabinetry and wood floors in a shelter? Vanity at it's worst.
Otherwise nice setup.
Valetudo21 2 years ago 2
you wanna know why he got locks on the door? here is why. lets say there is a nuclear disaster right..ok well lets say there are some other survivors out there also, they just got lucky. then they see this underground shelter. this is the place where all of YOUR stuff is. in natural instinct what do you think that survivor would do? RAID, thats what. now when he opens that door he is letting in radiation and on top of that he might try to kill you to get your food since he dont have any. think..
KronicKillaz 2 years ago 2
I know WHY you need a lock already. I asked why do you need a lock on the OUTSIDE of the door?!
Someone can open it from that side. It should be on the inside!
Valetudo21 2 years ago
lol, then how do expect to get back in if its locked? of course u gotta have one on the outside. once again..think
KronicKillaz 2 years ago
It is on the inside.
It is also on the outside, because sometimes you leave and lock the door behind you, and then you have to get back in, don't you?
Think about it, you have knobs and access to your locks on the outside of you house, don't you?

looked like gas stove and major appliances.. what power sources are used in event of power loss?
denebrock 2 years ago 4
where are the windows?
shadley000 2 years ago
If a shelter had windows, it wouldn't be a shelter.

These cost around $200 per square foot and are custom built to your specs.
paulbumgardner 2 years ago
Does that $200 cover ALL expenses, such as labor, heavy equipment, or doing a job in another state outside of Idaho?
hrdknox2000 2 years ago
That is a very good estimate. You will receive a contract quote with a site evaluation. Please call us for more detailed information:
