That "sunburst" opening title (at 1:06) to this day still blows my mind. Incredibly beautiful title card including that spark over the "i". Awesome!!!!
thats going back alot of years !! I was just a kid in school in the later 1970s' when I first started getting hooked on those CBS soaps. The storylines were so dramatic and involved - I loved THE GUILDING LIGHT in those 1970 years, but then it started to change - the stories far fetched and non believable.....But I really enjoyed that whole block of years with Mike, Ed, Rita, Holly, Roger....and wonderful BERT !! Who was the whole heart of that show !!
.....and you included what I thought was their best title design ever between 1:07 and 1:10 which was absolutely gorgeous -- the one with the auburn, exploding sunburst in the background. And the "spark" over the "i" didn't hurt either. Thanks!
That was outstanding. You showcased what I feel like was GL's best storyline in all their history -- rotten Roger. After he had raped Holly and everyone thought was dead (so he wouldn't have to go to jail), he became obsessed with kidnapping his daughter Christine. He bumped into Rita at the fair and said something trite and she recognized Roger in the clown suit. That's the woman in the hall of mirrors with the clown. They took home their first outstanding daytime drama emmy that year!
I always wonder why they never brought back Rita or why there wasn't a recast for this character? She was very poplular and a significant part of the show at that time. When they brought back Roger & Holly years later, there was no mention of Rita, it's as if she never even existed! I hate when soaps (like Y&R did with the entire Brooks family) lose or erase the history of a very popular character or family, that's no longer on the show.
