Hinduism is the only major faith to give equality to women - Just like the male Trinity there is the Female Trinity - Saraswati, Laxmi & Durga. No other religion says God is Woman. Every Hindu is familiar with the famous Ardhanariswara (Half Male-Half Female) form of God Siva - emphasizing that Husband & Wife are equal partners. It is ironic that newer religions have demoted women to a second-class status.

@ramaraksha01 in hinduism the 'wife' is the power of thier husbands and actully all main religious faiths give equal rights to women it's us as humans who don't follow our religions and consider women as second class. in india we have avtars of god in the form of women yet we don't respect women instead we blame them for the wrongs and are never happy for a daughter to be born but are over joyed when a son takes birth similerly in islam it says that every right that a man has a woman also has

@candynandy First about all religions giving equality - have u read other holy books before making that statement? the bible makes it clear that the man is the head of the household & the wife must obey him. They still have that in their marriage vows - the husband promises to cherish & love whreas the wife promises to honor & obey.

As for what is happening in India, just because something happens in a country, let's not go about blaming the majority religion for it. contd.

@candynandy In America there was once slavery. Are we then saying christianity at one time taught slavery but stopped later? In fact the bible does say slavery is ok with god. so, people changed the religion is ok with it.

How about racism? It exists in america - does that mean christianity teaches it?

Or take corruption in India - the laws of Karma & Rebirth clearly state that if we take unerned money, we must be reborn & must pay it back! Whereas chritistianity/islam have a god who contd.

If Hindus truly followed Hinduism, we would be corruption free! Women would be respected!

U know there is another country where a son is prized? China! There are warnings that there is a huge gender imbalance in that country, but they are not Hindus! Ever wonder why? Poverty!

In the US there is Social security for the aged, none in India. contd

@candynandy So, for the aged parents, poor people who live on their day to day earnings, a son will take care of them when they are no longer able to work. That is a huge incentive to have a boy. Can u blame them for that? I am not saying girls should be disrespected, but we need to understand why a certain thing is happening & take steps to correct that problem.

@ramaraksha01 there are over 40 000 different types of christans hence different interpurations and no none of the religions say a god will forgive it it says they will pay the price for it on judgement day and im not saying hinduism is wrong i'm a hindu and am very proud of that as for the girl/boy thing these days once married a son doesn't look around at his parents properly cos 90% of wifes act as if her husband should only be that and forget about being a son.

@candynandy In those days most kings were men, so god had to be a man. Brought before the king, subjects got down on their knees & begged for his mercy. This is no democracy, the king's word was law. Disloyal people could cost the King his throne, so heaven(castle) is limited to his followers only! Non-followers(disloyal) get threats of hell!

It's a very primitive, backward religion

@candynandy I am sure there are sons who don't look after their parents but I know of several people who do. I live in the US & have consistently sent money to my parents & used to call my mother daily. My elder brother who lives there has been there consistently for them.

There are a lot of good people in India & all over the world.
