Because it was a recently released game at the time and she wanted to play something popular. Also, you can still understand the story pretty well without playing the first one, and all the tutorials are still there, so it's not really a problem.
I would still recommend playing the first one, though, just because it's not very long and it's worth it.

I really don't see what the big deal is. Sure, she took a really long time to figure out a simple puzzle. However, it was really because she roadblocked herself in her thinking and was too frustrated and/or self-conscious to think outside the box. Certain puzzles always seem counterintuitive to certain people. Granted, this is only the 2nd video of her gameplay I've watched. I find her very sexy, but if the Mortal Kombat gameplay really is that bad, I will be rather disappointed.
