@Trikipum It is regrettable that because you're fan of a band, you can't hear diverse opinion than yours, but it's ok as long as you're remaining correct. My experience of Hard-Rock genre and many genres included in it such as Anathema's led me to draw comparisons with Paradise Lost (both bands are interesting) & also because their first album was issued before Anathema's one, but if you don't agree, it's up to you... I only wish you had more serious arguments.

Its weird to say how they totally change their style of music from Doom/Death Metal and Releasing (An Liad Of Woes) demo in 1990 with Brutal Death Growls and w/ every Album they released less Heavier over the years to a more Progressive/ Atmospheric /Alternative Rock sound with all Clean Vocals albums like Hindsight.

@philosopheDeMaelstro Lacrimosa by Mozart, J.S.Bach double violin concerto (2nd movement), Samuel Barber Adagio, concerto for guitar by Aranjuez, Schumann's sonatas (most instruments - Second movements)...these are some, but you've to take note that in a band that "gloomy" feeling is more exposed, as for the classical works it's hidden, in a way that it's more complex. I hope you enjoy the sugestions...ciao!

this isn't funeral doom. this is faster than funeral doom.  death/doom, little different. thats why in this song there are slow parts then fast parts where the drumming picks up speed. thats the death influence. compared to Shape of Despair that is funeral doom, which is slow as hell the whole way through.

I have this demo as well as An Iliad of Woes, both original cassettes. aIoW is cool, but the production sounds like the boys recorded it in the Cavanaugh rumpus-room. The track Lord of Mortal Pestilence needs to be rerecorded.

Thanks for posting this. Classic Anathema was simply amazing -- crushing riffs with a slight touch of somber melodies. Imindain is the closest thing to them today, but it's still not even close.

No, that´s not to be expected. Only song from the early era they play live is "Sleepless", as far as I know. They disgust their old stuff and vocalist, that´s why they didn´t re-release it (at least the demo - At one with the earth -) as so many other bands did it.
