It's mind-bogging if you think it has helped to spawn not just the whole Death/Doom scene, but also Funeral Doom. A nice mix of fearful/dreadful atmospheres.
I owned the 7 inch which I lost in progress of maarying and moving in with my SO. I loved Anathemas simplicity back i the days. and I like OP's collage of photos'
absolutely beautiful i preserve with care the original tapes and cd of this album, nothing compares to to early anathema no matter what, no matter how many years go by. by the way has anyone listened to thheir track everwak on shrooms :) Thanks for the vide. peace..
@Trikipum It is regrettable that because you're fan of a band, you can't hear diverse opinion than yours, but it's ok as long as you're remaining correct. My experience of Hard-Rock genre and many genres included in it such as Anathema's led me to draw comparisons with Paradise Lost (both bands are interesting) & also because their first album was issued before Anathema's one, but if you don't agree, it's up to you... I only wish you had more serious arguments.
"Żeby się nie zakrztusił"? Wręcz przeciwnie! Myślę, że gdyby krztuszenie się przy growlingu było powszechne, wokaliści szybko by wyginęli, nie narażając na szwank Twej wrażliwości ;)
I also like the newer Anathema, but not the same as old Anathema.
Its weird to say how they totally change their style of music from Doom/Death Metal and Releasing (An Liad Of Woes) demo in 1990 with Brutal Death Growls and w/ every Album they released less Heavier over the years to a more Progressive/ Atmospheric /Alternative Rock sound with all Clean Vocals albums like Hindsight.
There's definitly something with this band that's is adctive...that n' the actual vocals are so expressive and the instrumentation...Anathema was and is a hell of a band! Doom(general)Metal is my favority style after classical, maybe they're equally good..........Mozart Symphony 35!!
@philosopheDeMaelstro Lacrimosa by Mozart, J.S.Bach double violin concerto (2nd movement), Samuel Barber Adagio, concerto for guitar by Aranjuez, Schumann's sonatas (most instruments - Second movements)...these are some, but you've to take note that in a band that "gloomy" feeling is more exposed, as for the classical works it's hidden, in a way that it's more complex. I hope you enjoy the sugestions...ciao!
this isn't funeral doom. this is faster than funeral doom. death/doom, little different. thats why in this song there are slow parts then fast parts where the drumming picks up speed. thats the death influence. compared to Shape of Despair that is funeral doom, which is slow as hell the whole way through.
Funeral Doom Rulls in its own way...let listen some Void Of Silence or Skeptisizm...I don´t care which style the Doom metal is in but DOOM is the best..Real emotions ! No fucking fantastic stories , no fictional darkness etc...Doom Shall Rise !
I don't need to wish you are gay, you already are. Oh and change the record, if you're going to attempt to insult me, atleast be an adult about it not a whiny teen continuously calling people freaks. Are you some kind of illiterate moron?
Why would i be all "butt hurt over it" are you an actual retard, calling me a freak isn't an insult, it's laughable, you couldn't insult me if you tried, you don't have the intelligence.
see i already said something in the same vain to what you just said. Let me put it to you like this. You started calling me and the listeners of this song gay or emo fags or freaks, and now you can't find any real reason behind your argument so you have to quote me in your own words. what a loser you are.
r u retarded? I first stated that this song sucked and that it creeps me out. Get your fucking facts straight first you dumb fuck. Then u went on talking about dicks, cause you're a fag, which lead me to call u a freak, freak.
p.s "see i already said something in the same vain to what you just said"... no u didn't.
okay man i'll take your advice, he has a homosexual fixation anyhow, you can always spot people who are in denial by their actions, like watching a video of a band they don't like and then calling everyone freaks.
shittttttttt this is fucking awsome guys..didnt listen to old anathema much..love this song so powerfull and dommy.and it fucking relates to me.thanks
I have this demo as well as An Iliad of Woes, both original cassettes. aIoW is cool, but the production sounds like the boys recorded it in the Cavanaugh rumpus-room. The track Lord of Mortal Pestilence needs to be rerecorded.
Thanks for posting this. Classic Anathema was simply amazing -- crushing riffs with a slight touch of somber melodies. Imindain is the closest thing to them today, but it's still not even close.
Do they still play Death/Doom songs live? I considered going to see them in Oxford last yearm supporting Porcupine Tree, but I thought they wouldn't really play all this.
No, that´s not to be expected. Only song from the early era they play live is "Sleepless", as far as I know. They disgust their old stuff and vocalist, that´s why they didn´t re-release it (at least the demo - At one with the earth -) as so many other bands did it.
