When I grow older (I am 13 right now) I am going to put this music back into style along with the clothing and maybe (if I am wealthy enough) trains and cars. It will be like a "new" 1940's!
There is nothing about being old if you enjoy listening to the music of Glenn Miller; with the clarinet in the lead, his arrangements are forever embedded in the psyche of American.
@plafkinfarms I am proud to be 74 years old. Being positive, In the 40's and 50's there were so many good interpreters... all right, it is a bit difficult to follow some of the most recent songs, but we can do it.
For those of you who miss the old days or even if you are new to this type of music, it is being played in concerts and shows in various parts of the country, it just takes a bit of research to find it, it's on the radio too.
@Lopesq371 At the age of 38 years was too old to that he was called to military service as soon as possible and worked as a volunteer for the U.S. Navy, but they told him that his services do not need. Then in August 1942 by Brigadier Charles Young. to convince the U.S. Air Force war so that it took so he could in his own words " get in charge of a modernized army band. "
when the b 17s flew from there bases in England, to there objectives in euope, some times, even though radio silence was strick, but the FM reciever, would pick up the glen miller band, just to take the edge off the crew, until they got close to the target. Sometimes the crew would even say the plane seemed to sence the soothingness of the Miller band and, and would seem to fly smoother, even though most would say that was silly, well maybe, but who's to say it didn't help bring the boys back.
Does it annoy anyone else that when you type "moonlight" into the search bar, the first search that comes up is "moonlight sonata"? I know it's Beethoven and it's a classic, but in my opinion Moonlight Serenade is more classic than classical music...
@thekg9kid It was not me but I'll bet it's because of the commercials at the beginning. An "Obama needs your help!" commercial came up the first time I saw the video portion. Some people get upset about that stuff and forget that it reflects poorly upon the memory of the great Glenn Miller.
Big Band and swing music originated from Jazz not the other way around which began in the 1910's in African American communities in the Southern U.S.So what Big band ,Swing and other forms of music to come there after is called evolution.
Can you imagine dancing to this song back then, holding your love and swaying to this beautiful piece of music...where the men wore a dapper suit and the women wore gowns......the photos are gorgeous! Thanks for posting.
@skylilly1 I only wish that that was reality. But no, sadly, I'm in a world where people sag, and girls dress like whores. What happened to those good old days?
Glad I finally looked this song up. I would watch Golden Girls and just repeat the part with this song. They played this same song over n over again in several episodes of the show. :) Absolutely relaxing, shiver inducing music and REAL music. wonderful to slow dance to!
Not to sound rude, but I've grown tired of constantly seeing comments like "I'm 15 and I love this music, give me attention!" Sorry, but there's nothing admirable about enjoying wonderful music, so please stop with that pretentious crap because plenty of teenagers enjoy music from the era of Glenn Miller and others.
@mugen1237 Of course they can. I'm just saying that a particular minority of people among that age group feel compelled to draw attention to themselves when their age simply isn't relevant. No, I do wish big band and 30s pop were more prominent, because the masses don't know what they're missing!
@IJUSTLOVETURTLES I agree most definitely! I often listen to the radio, and as I'm switching through the stations, I sometimes will here how music slowly went down hill. It starts of as classic, then to jazz, rock, rap, this hip hop crap, and all this other newer music. There's no talent nowadays. It's all auto-tuned garbage...
@IJUSTLOVETURTLES I happen to like a variety of different types of music whether it be classics like this, jazz, chill, R&B etc.and in particular I like hip hop at least the older more realistic version of it.Hip hop & Rap at least in the beginning stages of it had nothing to do with trying to bring attention to ourselves it was more so about bringing attention to our lives and the injustices that we were facing as a culture then, simply having a good time with your friends and now CRAP.
@trekkiefan10 thumbs up if your an old person(59) like me, but think young at heart, who just loves listening to classic tunes like this all over agan!
