i have a question, why wouldn't you be able to control the mark v with midi when it has a midi footswitch input and it does the same thing? just asking.
@darkguiitargod The Mark V does not have a midi jack. You would need a control box to make it midi controllable. It does have 1/4 jacks that allow you to control the amp with an audio switcher. It is just as convienent.
@kingofskate08 maybe he sold his kidney, or something else more drastic... like having a job and working hard to earn money to get the well deservd gear he has.
Man,thanks so much for a great video.I am looking for some good amp that could do it all and this Mesa V,even though is more expensive than I wanted to spend ,is amazing. You helped me a lot with all features( and there is a lot of them).Such a tonal versatility is one of the major factor for me,but also when you take all possibilities on a back, that makes this really helpful musical tool. There are other and cheaper amps, but none has such versatility. And Mesa warranty is really good too.
Nice Alice in Chains in the beginning, lol. Mesas definitely are some of the best amps to come out of the US, I'll be the proud owner of one in a few weeks.
I personally think the Roadster is a good compromise between the versatility and usable cleans you get with the Mark V, and the brootal-ness of a rec. 100W is more than enough for me.
Mark and Rectifiers are two different Mesa voicings. Neither can really reproduce the other. But with patience and some time I am sure you can get a tone you'll love.
Not better, just different. The cleans are definatelt better. I should not say "better" because it is subjective. You have more options for different tones.
@brownhog72, Hi because of this video i bought a new mark v, thanks.. Its really a great amp, nothing else to say. Also, you play great and are very fun to watch. By the way, you are talking about changing channels using the GCX, how did you do it? Is it possible? I was thinking of buying a RJM mini amp gizmo but when i stumbled upon your review, it made me think twice. Can you make a demo on how you control the Mark v using the GCX audio switcher? THanks.....
@stheodor11 No you'd need a power amp. The slave out is just the preamp and FX loop, no power amp, so it's at 'line' level. You'd need a powered monitor or PA. It'll go into a mixer.
@DefiantDeath666 Yes, there's external switching jacks, but about 7 of them. G-lab do midi switchers specifically for mesa amps that mean you don't require a GCX to midi switch, and if you want to use a GCX it won't use up al the loops.
nice review - typondis color doesn't matter for music just enjoy it - check out bad brains '82 or so all kinds of people play all kinds of music. It's all good.
I'm gonna trade in my rectoverb for mark V - nice job again
i dont understand with an amp this loud , why your demo is such that you can still hear the pick noise(pick hitting the strings) with my amp on lowest settings i still cant hear the pick noise. its really annoying and makes the demo sound cheap. a better approach would be to record the audio of the amp with a nice mic and use THAT audio in the demo video. i mean its a sin to record such a nice amp with a camera mic and expect it to do the amp justice
thats right and it needed to be said, and ill say it again - the freakin pick noise makes the demo sound cheap and bloody annoying! so shut the fuck up.
Hi man!, your reviews are just great!!, i was wondering ( knowing that you like Mark V Over Nomad ) they are comparable heads??, i want to buy a Mesa and Nomad could be my money option, and the 3 channels are quite seductive too, what's oyur Informed opinion??...Cheers From Chile!!!
If you are thinking about Rectifiers, then go for the Triple. It's only $100 more and if you get Mesa, then you want the best (where have I heard that before?) xD
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
there's no difference between the single, dual or triple besides how loud they are, and what volume they have to be for them to start breaking up. if you're not playing in a stadium, there's no reason for a triple, or a double, they are both stupid loud. a single will do fine, and it wont necessarily make your ears bleed as much.
The preamps are very different, such as more gain and mid scoop added in the double and triple recs, and there is naturally more gain as a result of more power tubes being driven.
I've got some questions, I wanna buy a Mesa Boogie Mark V but is there a Mark cabinet? I've searced on Mesa website and there the rectifier, roadking, stiletto cab amp but not the Mesa MArk V :S
Secondly, what's the best for me straight cab or the angled one?
And finally i also wanna buy a TC electronic G Major 2 but do i need stuff a power amp or other stuff for a rack or i could play without a rack only the tc and the amp?
great demo man, thx for somewhat explaining about the ext switching jacks, but could still use more info about how u have the channels connected to the GCX and GCP. also how u are bi-amping the rig and switching amps
Nice vid man!

shinokugt 1 year ago
I find the V more versatile. More toneoptions, better cleans...and EQ.

@brownhog72 - And what would you say the Triple Rec does better than the Mark V?

Not better, just different. The cleans are definatelt better. I should not say "better" because it is subjective. You have more options for different tones.
brownhog72 1 year ago
Just wanted to say that the Mark V is like having "9 amps in one". It gives a wide range of tones.
The Rectifiers are more specialised in high gain heavy metal stuff. It also has good clean tones but the Mark V is better in that respect.

If you like solos, definitely the MKV! But the Rectos are amazing for Metal riffing, which doesnt mean the MarkV isnt.
Its just the classic case: Its a matter of your taste.
