  • Studenti udite! is such a wonderful aria and it is really a destiny that he start his recording career with Franchetti and finish with Rossini!

The last one not even a tenor aria.

    Et sepultus est.

  • sound much more powerful then the piano.

  • They obviously had not had much experience with proper balancing.

  • where can I get Needles for those old Records I need a needle for mine. Thanks

  • @Goodi8 Try Expert Pickups, ltd. in the UK. They've been supplying proper stylii for playing the old records for many years. We have seven different sizes, with a few more to come, in time...

  • No, this record was pressed from the original flat disc stamper. Caruso made some cylinders for Pathe in 1904.

  • Was the original a brown wax Edison concert cylinder? I know around 1898-1903 the concert cylinders were the most popular.

  • Fantastic to hear this truly historic recording!!!

  • It was possible to make your own recordings on early cylinder machines so Caruso may have done that but I've never read of any professionally made Caruso recordings before 1902.

  • And By the way, I can hear some words(Not very clear)at the beginning of this record (0:10 - 0:12)...Was it a mistake or has some meaning like the announcements of Edison Cylinders...?

  • Well...I never heard of any Caruso's recording before 1902. But I once read the book written by Dorothy Caruso. As I can remember, she said that her husband first recorded a song in 1896 on a Cylinder. What happened to that 1896 recording? Was it an error on remembering?

  • Check this out for more info on the early records,

  • I've read that interesting book sample and now you mentioned here I wonder if you have Cilea's accompanied Adriana Lecouvreur dec 1902. Thanks! May I say what am I mostly intrigue? Is the beautifull picture-book you show in La Donna e Mobile video, I've been thinking about it for same time.

  • Wonderful!!!, full of the mists of time. Always had a great interest in Caruso and the pioneers of the Gramophone industry.

  • That's the story from Gaisberg but more recent research suggests that Gaisberg had nothing to do with these records.

  • Really!!. I am surprised!. Can you recommend any new reading for me to catch up with all this?

  • This is the famous session when Fred Gaisberg was sent out to record Alessandro Bonci and telegraphed back for permission to record Caruso instead!!

  • Thank you for that GREAT beginning (in proper speed !) ; G&Ts were first with him, indeed.
