I loved this show. I was sad when it was cancelled much, much too early. But CBS head Les Moonves decided that he didn't want good wholesome television on his network so he had the show retooled during its third season, settling the family in Denver with focus on new characters, thus destroying the beautiful premise of a family on a mission from God. It was not canceled due to bad ratings. It was a top 30 show but demographics speak volumes. I loved the theme!
@larkpraise "mission from God"? Who are they, the Blues Brothers? Isn't it illegal to not have kids of that age in school? I know they're supposed to be home schooled, but I never see that happening. Seems kind of irresponsible to me. And where does Russell get the cash to fuel that gas guzling Suburban towing a 5,000lb trailer? That rig can't get more than 7 miles to the gallon! He lost his job, but he's burning up $50 bills feeding that land train.
@monaco74 If you've watched Promised Land and paid closer attention then you would have realised that in Pilot 2 at between 5:06 and 5:13 when Russel is talking to Erasmus he is saying that he is getting severence pay from "The Company in North Carolina" where he worked and his Military Disability. Please pay closer attention in the future, as there will most likely be a test...............

Good wholesome television, something that is almost a taboo these days.
