Grandi!!!

@atlas14 i would contend that they owe syd a launch point, but syd was learning from gilmour before floyd and they went in a different direction once saucerful was completed(even a bit on saucerful). But spot on about nick, people ask me why i care at all about Roger playing bass, and i tell them its because he can make me love 1 note over and over again (in octaves of course =] )
Not sure my acid trips were complete without this song in the background. Man if I only had this live version perhaps some of them would not have been bad trips. Take care,
all this love is all i am, a ball is all i am im so new compared to you. and i am very small warm glow moon glow always need a little more room Legends or sages? Once again David Gilmour proves that virtuosity is nothing, all you need is FEELING. Dont even pick up the guitar if you dont FEEL it. I dont know how i listened to music all those years before i discovered Pink Floyd, or lucid listening.....

Libest Spacement Monitor was the cut in "Circus Days" called "Corrosion".
@mtbb08 they were all pink floyd, was paul the beatles or john? but what about george? the wall and pros and cons 1 with david and rick and nick to an extent the other roger and eric clapton . which one would give a non floyd fan to listen too? roger laid both demos down at the same time,
they change your life point of view, and i know that it sounds crazy for me to say that, but it's true, they do change your life point of view, they change you in a way no other band have ever done
Yet another great Floyd track that needs to be released. Roger's walking bass is sick, the whole group just clicks together. This era, 1970ish, is my favorite. My favorite tracks from Dark Side of the Moon and Widh You Were Here are the jazzier ones, like Crazy Diamond and Any Colour You Like, and here is yet another great jazzy tune that needs to get released.
Thank you so much Sir for uploading this. What a great piece of Rock history captured on film. Shows the great physics of Floyd. Organic, emotional and crafted music - by hand. - R.i.P. Rick - Love.
Nick has one of those innate "drummer feels". He knows when, what, and how to hit just right to really emphasize what is being played. A lot of drummers are judged on their ability to play drums. Nick's drumming isnt so much "hey look im playing drums" as it is simply adding to the Pink Floyd sound. Which of course is amazing. I dont think it could have/would have been what it is/was without contributions from all of them including Syd.
You hit the nail on the head-I saw them several times in the early Seventies and one of the things that really came across was how loud and powerful the drums sounded,he hit them hard, totally different to the studio albums.
I have only seen the album cver for Embryo - Live at San Diego once. That was on the Pink Floyd Poles Apart YouTube video. Great song, the vocals are on par with Echoes in my opinion!
Best explanasion i've heard of the band, brokenchair. David and rich are (was) the musical ones, Roger was the brain and the lyrics man, and nick played outstanding drums
@cloudchaser07 That is not the case... Roger its a complicated man... instead, david its soo simple. simplicity is the way of the most inteligent and humblest man's... you know that? Dont you?
Einstein says that... To me, David is a genious, and roger is a prodigious man but with an awfull actittude. he thinks that the world is a problem, like his album the wall...
@cloudchaser07 Instead, listen remember that nigth, you tell me what you think!! jeje see ya. again, sorry about my english, but i traslate every pink floyd song.. to spanish of curse. im a big fan
yes, he does.....some incredible drums...listen to binding my time or one of these days live in pompeii....he's not the fastest...but he always hits the right notes at the right time
Yeah, I've heard all of Pink Floyd's songs, even the unreleased ones. I'm not sure why I got -2. I wasn't putting down Nick, he does play drums, and he plays them well. I actually think he might be the best drummer :)
its off one of their first early compilation Albums , the album title is Embryo lol, it was sung only in concert never in the studio, so this basicly might be one of the only few recordings of it.
what album is the original of this on? ive only heard live ones. (although ive fully determined they are way better live. i have no idea why but it seems to be that way
First time I heard it, it was as a studio version on an EMI compilation album of many of their different artists. This was PF's contribution. Next time I heard it was from a Dutch Bootleg Album. I have it now on my iPod from the Works album.
Nobody was off-time ... not that this never happened live, but it didn't happen there. Someone might've distracted him by moving unexpectedly or playing a different note than usual
Pity Nick Mason's drumming on stuff like Animals got reined in so much. I think he said this was Roger W's desire, but I think that stuff would be much more interesting if the drumming wasn't so sparse & linear, compared to the linear free-wheeling of his earlier days, like on the live at Pompeii concert.
alt5hough check Pompei i think Nicks drumming is great on that, i find Pompei has a lot of my fave versions of stuff too, i like Nick Masons drumming in the early song Paintbox :)
I agree fully, though I did mentino Pompei in the comment! Pompei my favourite music performance by anyone, by a distance. Pity the dvd director's cut sabotaged it with horrendous new computer generated imagery.
thank u so much for this. its so awesome to see these psychedelic geniuses at work. they've been my top influence when playing music; floyd knows exactly how to express the music within all of them.
PINK FLOYD¡¡ with capital letters... the best band in music history, no fucking comparisson... DAVID GILMOUR THE BEST PLAYER GUITAR... HE MAKES LOVE TO HIS GUITARS.. THANKS DAVE
True, but compared to Gilmour, Syd is like sessame street. Just because someone goes crazy doesen't mean they were a genuis (did I spell that right?).
@cojackthepizzaguy the version on works is much more layed back, whereas live versions are more amped up jammy versions like this. may i suggest you check out the Smoking Blues Roio. Excellent version of this.
That's not really the complete truth. Waters wrote and recorded the bass lines from Saucerful of Secrets up to Wish You Were Here. After that, Gilmour recorded the bass on Pigs and Sheep, but Waters stil wrote those basslines too. Really, the only basslines Waters didn't write were the one's in Gilmour's three songs in The Wall.
Actually I heard that all the basslines from dark side of the moon and the most of the ones in whish you where here were written by gilmour, but maybe you're right I'm not sure my source was very reliable...
thanks texas, lovely camera work. classic PF of the period.
something i just love is how this recording really catches Roger's throaty bass sound; some boots of the period just don't. better, in many ways, than Pompeii. less self conscious for starters.
I am just overwhelmed by David Gilmour's musical prowess during this period of the early to mid 70s; that voice and that guitar playing - WOW; obviously Roger Waters' brilliance was the starting point and I should not neglect the huge contributions of Rick and Nick
On WORKS, it is attributed to Waters, however I would think it is a "Pink Floyd" collaboration. On the album it is essentially Glmour playing acoustic and singing, here it's much more of a band effort, and this sounds more like "embryo" to me than the album version. In any event the lyrics i'm sure came from Waters. More often than not, Lyricist win out as the originator of songs....
I respectfully disagree: any part of the composition can come first than lyrics, no order rule for composition. Shine ON you Crazy Diamond, Wish You Were Here and Comfortably numb as great examples were originally created by David Gilmour and later Waters added the lyrics. Anyway thanks for the information and well if this is credited only as Waters, it must be his lyrics and original composition and being a different version, this should be credited as everyones arrangement and performance.
It sounds sort of like a Waters tune here, but similar to some of Wright's melodies of the time--but undoubtedly Waters' lyrics (some of the only innocent ones he ever wrote might I add). Even so, they all deserve credit; it was as much Mason's song or Gilmour's song as any of the others, judging by their playing! Phenomenal either way.
you can re post this in full now...

something i just love is how this recording really catches Roger's throaty bass sound; some boots of the period just don't. better, in many ways, than Pompeii. less self conscious for starters.
someone give me a brownie!

It blows my mind that this has less that 2,000 views. This is a Floyd gem.

I am just overwhelmed by David Gilmour's musical prowess during this period of the early to mid 70s; that voice and that guitar playing - WOW; obviously Roger Waters' brilliance was the starting point and I should not neglect the huge contributions of Rick and Nick

Are you sure this track is Roger Waters original composition? it does sound Waterish but i dont know the credits
LYMBO2006 3 years ago
