  • That corvette was probably a girly automatic. The cobra has roughly 57 percent weight over the front so its a lot easier to do a burnout ,unlike the corvettes 52/48. One of the biggest advantages the corvettes have ,not for a burnout of course.

  • @TiconderogaX: Why? To stay competitive. Horsepower is getting bigger in cars. Whats gonna happen when Porsche and Lamborghini release more light weight cars with 700 or even 800 HP cars with awd?? The only rwd cars that will be able to top that are cars thats gonna have to have a significant amount more HP. What would the point in that be? Its nothing to brag about. Even Ferrari is now paying attention to awd. I just would like to see our american brands continue to stay competitive over time.

  • @V8Supercar1 Lambo already has 670-700hp AWD cars that weight the same as a vet, and still can't beat them. The viper ACR has less hp than a Porsche GT2 RS, and more weight and still smokes it. I think it is something to brag about, to say otherwise is just simple jealousy.

  • @TiconderogaX: I've never seen the LP 670 vs. the Zr1 on a track or in a standing mile. It would be interesting to see how they stack up. The thing is, yes things are competitive now. Thats not what I'm questioning. The thing that I'm questioning is the future, when HP increases even more and grip becomes even more important. Now I don't want to see every american car become awd. But I would love to see one every once in awhile.

  • What does the prove,that you know how to do a brake stand? That your car is so weak that you have to do a brake stand in order to turn the tires? Back in the day,the guys who could only smoke the tires by doing this were considered chumps. Of course back then,cars had the power to roast em for a few hundred from a roll with out using the brake or a line lock. How times have changed,power has gone down while prices have gone up!

  • @zLOSTNOMOREz I think you need to take another look at those power numbers lol. Even if you consider "yesterday's" power numbers equal to today's (and their not, via the SAE change) its not even close.

    The reason you could smoke the tires back in the day with any V8 from even a roll wasn't power, it was the bias ply tires they ran on.

    You realize a 03/04 cobra or any C5+ would absolutely dominate any non purpose built (race only) 60s muscle car right?  Most of those were lucky to see 14s.

  • @testy462 It's not the tires,it's the torque and that is something most cars today have very little of. Sure..most factory built muscle cars were dogs off of the showroom floor. But spend a few hrs on them and you will see them come to life. Then,You did not have to spend $10K+ on one to get 500 HP+ out of it. You just had to do a little tuning and with a set of slicks you would see times in the low 13's to high 12's out of just about any BB and some SB muscle car.

  • @zLOSTNOMOREz You are obviously completely out of touch with reality. The car your looking at goes from 400 horsepower "off the showroom floor" to well over 500 (to the tires) with just basic boltons. It makes a TON of TQ, because its factory supercharged with a roots blower.

    Its not the TQ, its the tires. And "back in the day" it took a TON of money to get real speed out of them. I have to LOL at "high 12s"...both the cars in this video run high 12s STOCK.

  • @zLOSTNOMOREz And it was the tires...bias ply tires are simply retarded bad. This is why you could just blow them off at will from almost any MPH. This is also why blowouts used to be a standard thing and why everyone who was driving back then is still scared as hell to drive in rain now.

    This is all coming from a guy who's dad owns a 1969 mach 1. They were/are cool cars, lots of character, but they certainly could not complete stock vs stock with today's performance.  Tech rules.

  • @zLOSTNOMOREz If your acutally interested in learning something, type in "03 cobra pulley/tune 1/4 mile" or anything similar. What you will see is tons of mid/low 12 second cobras with nothing more than a pulley/tune/exhaust (change the blower pulley $300~, tune it with a $400~ tuner, add exhaust) going low 12s on street legal drag radials. There are even a few 12.80 and better cars out there doing it with the factory street tires and no mods.

  • @zLOSTNOMOREz And this isn't even mentioning the corvettes, the new camaro, the new 2011 mustang GT 5.0, etc etc. Any one of these cars makes more power, goes faster, and handles better than anything they could dream up in a factory mass produced car back in the day. The technology just makes amazing things possible.

  • @vintastic319 The Cobra was made for more drag racing... That Cobra was the best bang for your buck Power/money wise. 420hp(ish) for 30-35k, or a Vette 400hp for 45k. And as for the "bring it to the track", you're going to get 100x more races on the street than on the track on a daily basis. I'd much rather the car that would win on the street, and still be able to somewhat compete on the track.

The Gt was, and still is the only American built car to ever win Le mans, and winning it four years straight no less. Being old doesn't give you credibility or glory, significant doings, do. The GT40 was built as a race car, and it was a damn good one. The reincarnation of it in the 00s was brilliant too, and even out of production for yrs chevy doesn't make a worth adversary of the GT1000..

  • @vintastic319 That car isn't faster than a GT.. It has 750hp, The GT having 1000++. The GT has a top speed of over 260+. That vette may be quicker 0-60 but that is only because it takes a bit for the GT it really get its hooks in.
