i think its inevitable that we will achieve longevity, all this speculation about how it effects the "meaning of life" and such is totally irrelevant. we make the meaning. i would argue that the sole purpose of life and evolution is to achieve immortality. could it be that evolution is a striving of all species in a race towards immortality?

I think he is trying to say that we might get above ourselves. Think about it, we would be rich beyond our current measures, have thousands of descendants, visit other planets etc... It wil be very easy to get carried away and after a while we will eventually forget the whole point. But still, I would love to have it.

When you take your 1000th holiday, or when you celebrate your 2000th birthday or aniversary etc, life might eventually start to sound like a broken record. By "the whole point" I mean that if life is short we are more likely to fulfill its purpose by living it to the full, however if we have oodles of time, we might end up not appreciating the value of life because we will take it too much for granted.
