I just get annoyed when the governments make out that they are "helping" out of "kindness" or Christian values. The truth is self-interest. If they were truthful about this, then I'd be less p!ssed off. This included my own countries politicians.

Yes you are right, the insurgents are of course killing innocents too.
Fortunate/allied countries should definitely group together and try and sort out peoples being terrorised or in dire need of help. We need to transcend self-interest, as in time it will benefit us, but in the much longer term.
This approach would show the world that the allied countries are thoughtful, responsible and ethical, which would make it harder for terrorists to recruit by saying we are evil.

Terrorism is down, not up, in Iraq and around the world, because of the success of the Surge, thank God. 9/11 cost us 3,000 lives and $1 Trillion dollars US. 9/11 taught us that it's too expensive, in blood and treasure, to do nothing in the War on Terror, as George W. Bush's predecessor did. After Afghanistan, Saddam Hussein's Iraq was the biggest known terrorist threat. He was in breach of UN resolutions 687 and 689 in 1998. Bush even finally gave Hussein 48 hours to leave Iraq and avoid war.

Terrorism isn't down at all. It is brewing far worse than ever, because the hostilities have caused huge resentment with muslims which will only make terrorist recruiters jobs much easier.
The first thing I thought when the "war on terror" was talked about was "This is going to escalate things and increase terrorist numbers through easier recruiting". But only time will say if I'm right.
It is fairly obvious.
Some top officials do benefit personally.

Terrorist events that have happened maybe, I am talking about the current brewing / planning and recruiting that is going on.
They are taking stock and building in numbers slowly.
9/11 took years to plan but the UN would have said terrorist risk was low then.
It's about recruitment drives and underground planning. Which will tragically come to fruition in a few years.

Also you are the one projecting on to me. You really have a negative view and assume the worst of me. I DO see some benefits in liberating Iraq, but I also see the downside of the "war on terror". I can see both sides.
Whereas you only seem to see one side. Or am I projecting now? ;o)
Something needed doing, but mistakes were made, but then we are dealing with human beings here and people make mistakes and some become corrupt.

I can see why you feel the way you do. People do tend to pin everything on to certain individuals or countries at times.
Agreed that America does get a lot of stick, a lot unfair and some fair.
I feel we've had a valuable debate so far, and it's been challenging yet worthwhile, as it is always good to see someone else side. Even though these things of course get heated at times as we are emotional being human etc! ;o)

May I correct, that the afghanistan taliban were even supplied with weapons by the CIA, as long as they were fighting against the USSR. And Saddam Hussein was USA´s best friend, as long as he was at war with Iran.
As we know, Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with any sort of Al Qaida fanatics, and the WMD were the biggest lie in modern history.

We supplied the Mujahadeen in order to defeat the Russians, who had invaded and killed the preime minister of Afghanistan and his family the first week.
According to SIPRI, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the amount of weapons we gave Hussein amounted to roughly 5% of his total weapons stockpile. He received most of his weapons from Russia and China.

The detainees at Guantanamo Bay are POSITIVELY IDENTIFIED al Qaeda terrorists captured on the battlefield, or when their suicide vests failed to explode. There are no innocent Morroccan cab drivers at Gitmo. Stop listening to, and repeating bullshit leftist and pro-terrorist lies and propaganda, like in this video. Sorry, did you ever ASK the US to come into the UK and deal with the IRA? If you did I've never heard that. And frankly, if given a free reign, I'll bet the SAS and SBS could've cleared up the IRA without our help. Terrorists cannot be reasoned with. They must be killed. Terrorism is guerilla warfare, what they now call asymetrical warfare, attacking and mudering innocent people by the hundreds and thousands, is not simply acceptable to them, it's the goal. The best war on terror is intelligence. If someone doesn't know they're being monitored they say everything and it's all 100% true. Tortured prisoners will just say anything to have some slack, so it's mostly untruths.

Is that a sick joke? Any soldier who's done that has gone to prison. How many innocent Iraqis have the TERRORISTS/INSURGENTS killed? Tens of thousands? Hundreds of thousands? How many were used as human shields by the terrorists? NO-ONE holds them responsible for the wholesale slaughter they've committed in Iraq. Its always blamed on 'our presence'. America does NOT execute, or torture captured terrorists. Waterboarding, A TECHNIQUE USED AS PART OF US Marine AND Special Forces TRAINING, is certainly harsh, but NOT torture, and has only been used 3 TIMES on POSITIVELY IDENTIFIED Al Qaeda terrorist leaders, TO SAVE LIVES.
