  • thanks sooooo much for this vid! As a teenage "yank" living in England 1977-1979 I cannot tell you how much this means to me now...

  • Never mind warewolves, how about vamps of london lol

  • Gabba-Gabba-Hoi

  • Yeah, three of the original members have reformed under the name Gods Lonely Men.

They have a facebook page I believe

  • I've heard that three origional Lurkers have reformed, does anyone know where I can hear their new stuff/see them live?

  • hahahaha

  • Just got to add to the thanks - been waiting to find this clip forever!! A great time to be a teenager - we were lucky.

  • ickenham punx top draw.

  • man this brings back lots of very happy memories, Many thanks for posting this vid

  • Howard Wall looks like Paul McCartney....LOL

  • @Hollandia777 - Beggars Banquet tried to capitalise on this actually - they didn't have a clue - instead of just trying to push them as a punk band - they'd be on the phone saying 'Oooh - the singer looks just like Paul McCartney - you've got to see them' - wankers.

  • @NeilThompson30

    Thanx 4 "details"!

  • I bought Fullham Fallout some time ago and it fucking blow my mind! There isn't a bad song on that album!

  • seen theses guys in Portrush N.Ireland at the Arcadia!! Anyone else there that night?

  • he looks like a young paul mccartney!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for the info Raymond !

  • What the hell is this from, man ?

  • @TonySlug

It's from 70s punk show called REVOLVER, hosted by Peter Cook.

Rich Kids were on too..shame it's not repeated but seeing that tv has been shit for the past 20 years it's not suprising.

I'll get is on DVD as a bootleg, and as usual it will come from the U.S.

  • I to was one of the grayhound guys great days, great bands and a great place till they stopped us pogoing incase we went through the floor.

  • The Lurkers were one of my favourite bands, I remember seeing them at the Greyhound in Croydon in about 1978. Sunday nights they used to have bands like Gen X, The Jam, Buzzcocks and the Adverts etc.. oh halcyon days

  • Thanks for posting.... awesome.... Bring back very good memories.

  • Saw these at the electric ballroom a few years back, omg !!!, it was probably 30 yrs ago,

    Brilliant.

  • Saw these guys at the Limit Club in Sheffield around February 1978.Pogo'd the gig right through.Ah the power of youth.Brilliant.

  • The classic line-up. I ventured down to the Marquee Club in Jan 1978 as a 16 year old to see Bethnal and to my amazement The Lurkers were the support band. I stood alone in the queue from maybe 615 and Manic Esso wandered out asked me in to watch sound check free admission etc, I think he even bought me a beer! Years later I met Pete Stride and commented on the fact that Stiff Little Fingers 1st London gig had supported at the Lyceum when Lurkers were headlining maybe 1980- he didn't believe me

  • ah man your lucky to have been young at that time and seen all those bands.

My favorite band hands down, the lurkers

  • I knew ol' Esso..They used to play down the same studio as us in uxbridge..Last time I saw Esso was about 25 years ago and he was then a psychiatric nurse believe it or not...

  • @shedend76 Late reply - I was at that Lyceum show and if I remember correctly it was in 1978. Also on the bill were Duffo, Johnny Moped, and Ivor Biggun and the Red Nosed Burglars. One of the few gigs where I have ever seen the police come into the venue and forceably remove people for a kicking outside. Mind you, there was a massed batlle between punks and skins going on through the Lurkers set. Howard's mic kept cutting out too.

  • @ClearLight1967 @ClearLight1967 it's all coming back to me now - worst pitched battle I ever saw at a gig was when some idiot put Madness and Echo and The Bunnymen on the same bill at Camden Electric Ballroom. We all had to take our DMs off and leave them in a pile inside the door but the skins misbehaved anyway. You're right about 1978 BTW, a quick rise to fame then a pretty rapid return to obscurity. The other surprising support act The Lurkers had back then was Tubeway Army/Gary Numan

  • this is what i call real pogo punk!!!

  • Another comment which I think is funny. In 1979 we went to great lengths to find out about the German dates of the Lurkers. They gave us the wrong date at Beggar´s Banquet in London. So we thought Hamburg was off and went to Berlin instead. I was 21 and unaware of the fact that Berlin was in the former GDR, geographically. We needed papers which we didn´t have, but got a permission that was good for a day. The Lurkers were great, but they did Hamburg too- the dates had been switched around

  • so what´s Howie doing these days ? Anyone knows ?

  • Nooo, que buen tema, no aguanto mas para verlos en Argentina...

    Saludos

  • Can't get enough of this video - you don't even need the sound on -

Howard was just a great mover -

it's a shame we'll probably never see his stage antics again -

the way he moves about the stage at the beginning is just pure class!

  • eee-I was 16 again for 2 minutes -magic! cheers :)

  • Wow! This is a great performance. Everyones enjoying themselves - classic punk

  • I have fond memories of The Lurkers and this is possibly the first time I've seen video of them. To an aspiring 13-year old rock star (it didn't happen) their songs were fairly moronic in structure which made them easy to understand. Take "Ain't Got A Clue" (remember the freebie gold flexi disc?) where the vocal melody, chords AND bassline all go the same way - hardly rocket science. Their first LP was miles better than the second, which had all the rough edges ironed out.

  • You're so right.

When they do Then I kicked her on the first album Pete follows the melody with his chords!!! instead of playing the proper chords - but you couldn't possibly knock them for it cause they were just a brilliant band.

  • are you the Neil Thompson who was with The Carpettes ?

  • Yes - I am.

  • The poster we got at your gig in Croydon had a white lettering, I coloured it black when it still hung on my door. The colour seeped into the paint and left a nasty stain. My dad had to paint the door after I`d moved out. I´ll see The Lurkers in two weeks !! Are you still gigging ?

  • Haven't gigged for 8 years. My other band - The Only Alternative - are hopefully gigging soon.

  • I checked out The Other Alternative, you´re still a little Carpette-ish, which is good ! I bought quite a few songs on iTunes. I will try to catch you live sometime. In England, I´m not kidding myself thinking you´ll be touring Germany soon !

  • Brilliant. If anyone needs reminding how brilliant records were in 1978 and how brilliant gigs were in 1978 - they should watch this video.

Most bands today are shit and for some strange reason most of them start with K.

I'd love to have Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian, Killers and the Kooks all together in one room - I'd put this video on and say 'Right chaps - watch this' - then when it finished I'd say - 'That's how it should be done - so why don't you all FUCK OFF'

  • Agree

  • just found this been waiting years fantastic back when punks had feather cuts not spikes love it

  • Saw these boys at Friars Aylesbury. With a band called The Vice Creems. The gob that came at the Vicecreems would have put a WW 1 artillery barrage to shame. All through there set it was relentless. The lurkers were great, the outfit that calls themselves the lurkers today, does not contain any of these members in the band.

  • cpunctn you are my new god dude, Iv waited 31 years to see that clip again, the friday evening I saw that as a 14 yr old scroat,so vivid, no offence to the current Lurker fans but Howards montone voice, magic, If only I was old enuff to of seen them at Fusion in Sunderland back in the day. thanx again pal.

  • You're welcome, mate! I was thrilled upon finding this.God,those were great times to be young in! I wish i was around back then...:( Glad you enjoyed it,and thanks a lot for commenting. Cheers!

  • Sunderland Fusion? It were called the Lee's Club when I were a lad (and when the Lurkers played it) - changed its name to Fino's later on.

  • My bad memory I guess, dunno where I got fusion from, I was nipper tho y'know, yeah It was the place that eventually became Fino's, Cheers

  • Fusion was opposite Park Lane bus station. Lee's club was next to the ABC picturehouse.

I saw another gig on the same tour - they played Whitley Bay Rex Hotel with Punilux supporting - absolute MAGIC.

We got to do a residency with them at the Marquee in November 79 - they were trying to be The Rolling Stones then though with John Plain - not as good as the early stuff (although New guitar in town was a great single) the stuff they were doing was later on the Stride/Plain album.

  • lol some guy in the crowd looks like sid V

  • hey i was wandering any one got the lyrics of this song??

  • what part do you need?

  • almost all the song xD

I only got the i wanna be her hero that's it

  • Nobody seems to know what happened to Howard, not even Esso, it's really sad. They were my fave punk band back when I was a wee spiky nipper, Just 13 was my anthem :)

  • You're very welcome, glad you enjoy it.I remember this was uploaded on youtube before, about two years ago,but was removed shortly afterwards. It took me some time to find it,so as soon as i did, i posted it right away! :) Anyway,i will keep looking for more footage from those great times.Cheers!

  • Many thanks for uploading this,i haven't seen this since it was shown all them thousands of years ago.

  • My god, what happened to the orginal Lurkers?

  • they all decided not to play anymore!

(i might be simplifying it a bit)

  • No thats quite an appropriate and well thought response...you are very patient dude, esp ref; the guy who wants the lyrics...he's kidding, isnt he? have you come across the Out in The Dark EP on You Tube by any chance?

  • Yeah its a shame the original line-up does not play anymore but Arturo version of the band is great too.;Not on YouTube, but i have heard that song and its quite a good one too!

  • You're welcome! :)

  • Thanks for uploading this!!
