  • They will never get the recognition but this is probably one of the best bands on the planet.

  • Opeth is a combination of Metal, Blues, Jazz, and Mathcore qualities. Cant really be compared to any other band. They're more closely related to BB King then Dream Theatre.

  • @thedamondude They are prog metal. If you think they are more closely related to BB King than Dream Theater than you need to listen to more of both.

  • Just love the growling <3.

  • ITS SO AWESOME I CANT WAIT TO GO TO ONE OF THEIR CONCERTS LOLZ I LOVE THIS SONG OF THEM MY DAD ALWAYS GO TO THEIR CONCERTS BUT HE DOSNT TAKE ME :'(

  • ITS SO AWESOME I CANT WAIT TO GO TO ONE OF THEIR CONCERTS LOLZ I LOVE THIS SONG OF THEM

  • 5:49 to 6:20 is the best part, good musicians

  • what is dream theater, ciyuvciyuvciyuvciyuv, if dt is progressive this is ultr progressive

  • honestly there's no comparison in my mind. Opeth is in a league of their own. Yes Dream Theater is good, but no where near as creative or unique as Opeth

  • jesus , his normal speaking voice is just damned sexy... why dont we have guys with that type of voice here in CA?

  • @Gam3rGirlie because Mike's voice is unique, its his own voice lol.

  • great sound quality

  • do nobody knows "between the buried and me"??? opeth fans will be amazed ;-)

  • @rockNrollerblading90 I freaking love btbam. They are one of the best bands ever.

  • @rockNrollerblading90 'Peth > BtBaM ;)

  • @zarucarsha Although I agree, its still lame that people feel the need to do this.

  • @Hmantooth It is lame, but I felt obligated since it was an Opeth video :P

  • @rockNrollerblading90

BTBAM are awesome, im sure everyone here knows that, but i still like Opeth more

  • @rockNrollerblading90 I love BTBAM. I They are amazing like Opeth

  • the part at 1:25 sounds similiar to hessian peel =\

but that doesn't mean i love opeth any less

  • @yourdeadmother

Recurring themes, both musically and lyrically, are common on albums.

Still Life for example, as a concept album, reuses sequences and melodies from some songs in the entire album.

  • anybody else like that part from 5:47 to 6:23??? its the best

  • @jocasja Yeah, it's the best part of the song.

  • That part at 5:47 to 6:23 really shows how good musicians they are

  • man opeth shreds

  • vocals are excellent.

  • opeth and dream better tour the united states again

  • @antoniomartinez9898 James' vocals are a lot harder/amazing than people give him credit for,not to mention he had food poisoning back when and it fucked up his voice drastically.

  • @antoniomartinez9898 I'm sorry, but this comment is "badd".

  • @ 7:23 Mike's was switched place with the demon, just look at the light coming out!

  • sexy

  • @ichbinraz

    indeed !

  • It's like... playback! Except it is'nt!

  • Headbanging goodness

  • Dream theater and Opeth are totally different... Akerfield's voice doesn't even stands the chance to be compared to LaBrie's gay voice... Opeth and dream theater are great bands and despite playing progressive, they're not even similar

  • @eduardao77 i can't tell if you were saying Akerfeld's voice is better or worse than LaBrie's..... because if you were saying the dream theater bitch's voice is better, you must be doing some fucked up drugs. LaBrie sucks and pretty much ruins dream theater in many ways.

  • @jkjl234 I was saying that akerfield is way better than Labrie... but yeah I'm on some fucked up drugs x)

  • @eduardao77 It's not (just) the drugs, Akerfeldt is a badass, LaBrie is nowhere even close to his level.

  • its very hard play song

  • Man come on, just enjoy your music, Opeth and DT are both amazing bands, arguments comparing them are plain subjective. It's like comparing apple and pears... yes, both are fruits... but in the end, different.

  • @Jorvas25 what the fuck do you have against pears! :)

  • OPETH!!!!! WAAAAAHHHH!!!!

  • my fav song from this guys .

  • How can you compare Opeth and Dream Theater?? Like how?? Opeth is god. Dream Theater is good. And this is an Opeth video, please put positive comments about Opeth.

  • And the vocals of DT are too gay. You can't compare it to the greatless of Akerfeldt growls

  • The best exteme metal vocalist there is. His screams are incredible.

  • dude, i have heard quite a few dream theater comments, but all i have to say is that dude....opeth is so much better. its not just a wankfest of instrument playing. the singing is better. and the atmosphere is unparalelled. dream theater is raw talent and i respect it a lot, but opeth is MUSIC.

  • his vocal are just purely amazing!

  • Ok I'm totally tired of seeing comments and responds about which band is better. There are no "better" it's just about your personal taste. I don't get it why people can't see how much of a retard they are when they say 1 is better than the other when both are 2 different styles of music. Geez

  • @ImmolateThyLord Im totally agree w/ya. Finally we cannot say Opeth or DT are bad bands, even if -hypothetically- you hate their work.

  • I love that wicked theme which starts at 5:49, so confusing, so brilliant!

  • Opeth, Symphony X, Dream theater are the 3 progressives kings... none of them are better than the other... They are simply the best

  • There's no sense comparing Opeth with DT. Sometimes i prefer DT and sometimes Opeth, depends on my mood or mental state... I cant say Learning to live is better than Ghost of Perdition... both songs are for me amazing art... so I think is too useless comparing any kind of art... it must be catched with your right side of brain

  • @davidamarat Words.

  • @GNRSlash94 Just like yours, man!!

  • My absolute favorite part in the song is when the moody part breaks and melts down into the circus-sounding part. That part just says so many words through music that it's just plain mindblowing. I've seen them 3 times, on Ghost Reveries tour, and twice on Watershed tour. I'm even wearing a Watershed shirt right now! This is one of my favorite albums by them. I hated it until I gave this song and "Heir Apparent" a listen, and now it's up there with BWP, Still Life, and Ghost Reveries.

  • Opeth are genious

  • This makes me excited. Most metal videos I've seen on youtube so fare, the videos have been most popular in Finland and Sweden more than any other country

  • ugh shitty quality when it comes to the drums -.-

Fucking love the song though Opeth is the most amazing band ever

  • Good part when you get donw the camera... ;)

    /,,/

  • Sooooo good it's almost wrong? If you don't dig this you need to be killed fast.

  • Its so good to see Mr.Akesson in this band! I remember his work in Tiamat. A fantastic player!

  • @davidamarat he's a great guitar player, but I liked lindgren a bit better. don't know, he had more feeling in his playing...

anyway, love how he's humming the melody in the beginning

  • Yeah, I'm agree with ya. Lindgren was a VIP of Opeth.

  • absolutely... but it's pretty tough to replace such a musician, and considering that they certainly found someone adequate with akesson.

  • Watershed was the first full album I listened to by them and they jumped up to my number one band haha. I love Opeth!

  • 5:45 is so fucking funky

  • i dont know why this isnt one of their biggest songs. i love this one, its the first song i heard of theirs that i really liked

  • flanger flanger.

  • does anyone know what he is using at 2:00? idk if its a wah pedal or what, sounds very cool though.

  • I'm Pretty Sure it's a Flanger mate, But I'm not entirely sure. definitely a modulation effect. It just sounds too elaborate and intense for a Wah Wah to me.

  • @sk8a64 my crybaby 535 sounds a lot like that on full range.

  • It's a wah. It just has a crazy sweep range on it. I think it might be an Ibanez Weeping Demon. Those things have crazy range for them and can give you the sound that he has at that little interlude.

  • sup my friend..During lotus eater a wah is used ... I saw them this summer and observed mikes action useing his feet . \_/ Peace

  • i think u might be right, but just because he made that action with his foot, doesnt mean that its a wah. there are plenty of effects pedals with that sort of foot control.

  • why is everyone comparing opeth and dream theater? even though theyre both progressive not alot of their stuff is similar. and its all opinion. in my opinion i prefer dream theater but i still love opeth. i know ill probably get thumbs down but everyone has a different opinion dont they?

  • I agree, first they do different type of music, then cannot be compared, second dream theater are more progressive and melodic, opeth can create a awesome sound and an ambient, they are both great groups

  • I don't think I'll ever say the words "I prefer _ over Opeth." That's just not possible.

  • Comment removed

  • @Vektruscen tool fills the slot pretty well haha. and meshuggah definately is a tie breaker with opeth.. 3 of mah fav bands ever

  • i prefer both xD

  • @olliemedsy

I think it's because they are both well-known progressive bands, to a lot of people, they are the only two bands of that genre they listen to, so it's bound to generate comparsions.

  • @olliemedsy Well, Opeth is more consistent with their music. I can only take so much of Dream Theater. Opeth has a much more epic sound, with a sound more similar to that of classical music, where as Dream Theater is more similar to Rush. Since I'm a opponent of Rush, I definitely prefer Opeth. Can Dream Theater match the mixture of intensity, emotion, and atmosphere as Opeth does with this song, and by extension, most of their songs? Bottom line, I prefer Opeth by a long shot.

  • @olliemedsy No, i totally agree! They are two different bands, Opeth are more black/death metal than DT. I've seen both on Progressive Nation :):)

  • @olliemedsy I think it's mainly just because both bands are really in the upper echelon of progressive metal. Or at least I'd like to think so.

  • @olliemedsy They are both my favorite bands, and are quite talented in different ways. I love how both bands have been around for a while but still put out kick ass records to-date,they will never expire!

  • @olliemedsy because they're both incredible bands?

  • @olliemedsy opeth is actually progressive death metal, dream theater is just.... *OVERRATED*

  • @olliemedsy I respectfully disagree, sir. Opeth are gods amongst men. Dream Theater is good but mortal is comparison.

  • @CrackeTheSkull ... Have you by chance ever listened to Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence all the way through? That is quite possibly the most epic song ever written. Opeth is good, but their sound is too self reliant to ever write a song even close to the 45 minute length

  • @andy123456789A Not yet, I was planning on doing so soon. I have it... just need to find a good time to set apart 1 and a half hours to listen to it.

I've listened to Scenes from a Memory, Octavarium and a couple other albums from them very extensively. Dream Theater is good, no doubt... but they aren't the best songwriters in the world, in my opinion. They start to get a little bit overly technical on some tracks. The 24-minute-track "Octavarium" is a masterpiece, however.

  • i was on a prognation in germany and the whole audience just watched the bands.

  • best band to walk the earth! i was sceptic to watershed live, but this proved me totally off the edge.

    hail opeth.

  • i havent heard DT's latest... they are great musicians tho.. the only thing that really turns me off to them is james labrie.. fully do not like his voice or singing...

ill always like Opeth better, though... their songs are just way.. darker

  • You should listen to DT's latest - eve if you dont like the singg musically it i great (although I like his singing as well)

  • agreed. DT is awesome at playing but terrible at song writing in my opinion... i love them but its just too fucking much sometimes haha. opeth is way better in my opinion. Fucking riff gods

  • Going to see them the 22nd October! \m/

  • I dont know who is better on vocals

    Daniel Gildenlow or Akerfeldt....

I think they both are amazing.....

  • I never get why so many people clap along to the quiet bits, they're always so out of time too.

  • That's why they're not musicians.

  • Thank you! Not a single person in the audience was clapping in time when I went to see them in Prog Nation on saturday. :L

  • You dont clap at a opeth concert you violently headbang

  • theyre not out of time, there just clapping on the downbeat when the drummer is closing the hi hat on the upbeat

  • @mcgarnacle21 Haha, agree xD

  • @mcgarnacle21 its supposed to be nice and smooth and the clapping makes it all mainstream

  • @mcgarnacle21

Yeah man, that shit kills me.

  • going to see them tonight!

  • the best progressive band out there

  • Naah.. almost... Dream Theater first.. then second Opeth.... ;)

  • Yes I have heard it. No garbage. U can't make a conclusion of a bands greatness by judgeing each of their latest album..

  • Black Clouds was a good album I don't know what you're talking about. Count of Tuscany is a freaking amazing song. Although I think both bands would find it hilarious you guys are arguing about this since they are all friends and both are fans of each other.

  • haha hahaha...sure

  • Opeth from 6 am till 12 am daily..i wish i could hear them while sleeping as well!!!

    they r f**** amazing!!!!

    Hail from Lebanon.

  • 2:17 holy shit I never heard him sing like that it was soo cool XD!!!

  • ill be seeing them in manchster :D should be brilliant!

  • The best part about this song is how heavy yet so bright and airy it is.

  • my farts are the same actually

  • Perfect 8D i luv this song, vocals were awesum. riffs and solos, just amazing

  • that jazzy part starting at 5:47 is so fucking cool! it made me realise how genious this guys can be

  • that part reminds me of Emerson Lake & Palmer.

i love it! genius is the correct word.

  • How good are ELP!? You into Gentle Giant?

  • ELP are AMAZING! too good.

Yes I like Gentle Giant too!

  • I LOVE THEM!

  • going to see them in london with dream theater :D

    my two favarate bands

  • Glasgow for me. It will be awesome!

  • Song awesome

  • 5:43 crazy!!

  • His harsh vocals are fucking sick!

  • I saw them back in october

    best concert everrrr

  • I'm so sad. :(

Most of their tour is already done, and they're not coming to the Netherlands anytime soon as far as I'm aware of it.

I MUST SEE THEM LIVE O.O I also believe they really are just cool dudes!

  • Ze komen met prog nation in nederland :D

  • Bedankt voor de tip!

Ik hoop dan er uberhaubt te kunnen zijn. :)

  • saw them play this last october. best fucking band ever IMO. love this song!! Bloodbath is bad ass too!! hope they tour soon with mike on vox!

  • saw them in pittsburgh amazing show

  • time they brought out a new dvd with their watershed material on it!

  • Fred can sing backup... Cool

  • That dude Fred compliments Mike so much.

Just watch them nail both the leads and the vocals...I'm telling you...Fred rules.

He's going to take Opeth to that next level.

  • Agreed. :)

  • that was great.. reminds me of when i saw them on a boat cruise between finland and sweden.. supercool!

  • wuz there.

  • Motherfuckers!!!! opeth rules! the same shit on the album!!
