I recently started playing my Genesis again for kicks, and the only hockey game I had for it was NHL Hockey (no year but it's 92, came out before this one) and I would win every game by 10 goals. Bought this one and it's actually really challenging, I feel more accomplished when I win a game. '94 and up are pretty cheap and are easier. It's funny that they didn't get the right to use team names or logos in this one. The team 'long island' is clearly the new york islanders, lol

1) You can no longer hit someone or punch them and make them bleed all over the ice;

Bloody loved this game. Got it for Xmas when I was a teenager & spent all day playing it (in between SNES Mario Kart sessions with my brother!!). Still got my Genesis (or Megadrive as we call it over here) & I whip it out for a quick sesh every now n then. Is it me or did the D-Pad have better control over your players back then compared to analog sticks on NHL games these days?

A friend of the family left this at our house after babysitting me once when I was 6, and I played it non-straight for a week before I finally convinced my parents to sign me up for ice hockey lessons. I've been playing ice ever since, and I owe my obsession to the greatest sport on earth thanks to this game! I just downloaded an emulator for my wii, and I've been playing this nonstop. It is THE BEST hockey game that will ever exist.

2 things missing from this highlight reel.....

Scoring on the faceoff with the center as soon as the puck was dropped, and scoring with a one timer from the faceoff. Win the faceoff to the winger, and slapshot top of the net.....priceless. Loved to play with the Kings and the Jets. NHL 95 is still the best in the series though, you could create players! Awesome reel though! You made wish I still had my Genesis : )

Great video! I spent many, many hours as a kid playing this game with my friends. I remember figuring out that you could score a lot of goals by aiming your shots between the goalie's legs. Until everyone figured out what I was doing, I was unstoppable. My team of choice was the Winnipeg Jets for no apparent reason!

I never scored a goal with any NHL game. I had to pay my friend $5 to let me see him score a goal. The goalkeepers were tough. Once I out shot my opponents 54-2 and lost 2-0.

Did all of these gamers suffer from weak goalie AI? Of the three versions I played (NHL Hockey, NHLPA 93, and NHL 94), I found all of them to have weak-ass goalie AI. I wish EA could have tweaked the goalies for better replay value. Still great games, thou.

Pretty sweet video and you can actually get away with a lot in this game! They don't often call goalie interference. I like the music too that's from NHL 2000 I think. Anyhow if this wasn't up there, I'd have to make my own highlight reel. A lot of the scoring tricks I figured out on my own, but there was some cool stuff done with the puck behind the net.
