The sound quality from this unit is excellent check out my song Stay the Night , it was done solely on the Tascam DP-02. Its nice because you can import via usb to to your computer and input into any DAW or clean up or add additional effects in Sound-forge or Audition. I will be posting more songs I also have 2 other songs but they were done by other recording means. One song Religious Persuasion was done in a professional studio 15 yrs ago, whats cool is the Tascam sounds just as good.
The statement at 0:46 is not entirely accurate. It is true that Sgt. Pepper's was recorded on a 4-track, but not a cassette tape 4-track. It was not in the same league as a cassette recorder. Lots of studio-quality outboard gear was employed as well. I do not believe that it would be possible to achieve the quality of that recording on a porta-studio. Not even if George Martin was producing it. :-)
The Beatles had a reel to reel ,they also had great mics obviously the best money could buy at the time which is still pretty damned good ,that's of higher quality straight away, the technology is better but the quality isn't I see this guys point, but its almost like comparing a Lamborghini to a Ford model T I mean their both cars, but so what.
All right so out of the blue my tascam dp 02 started up with this mount error message and now i cant do anything , I cant even find a problem similar to mine on the net. Does anyone know what the hell "mount error " means and if so WHAT DO I DO ?
Ummm i'm guessing that that is a hardrive error and you willl need to have it fixed by Tascam or have someone remount it but if it's in the warranty have Tascam do it.
"More sophisticated than what Sgt. Peppers was recorded on." Talk about a misleading spec! The Beatles' 4-track R2R machine used 1" tape! That's 1/4" for EACH TRACK, as opposed to about 1/32" per track on cassettes.
Now, I love cassette 4-tracks as much as the next person and like to record on them myself, but come on Tascam! Let's not spread misinformation! Sure it may have more routing, etc., but they make it sound as though you have the ability to outdo Sgt. Pepper's; that's misleading.
You make a good point though some of the same technique that you do on these recorders are the same a in the 60s. Plus, you get the same great sound. But, you right because these recording have there limitations and what really matters in alot ways are the mics, compressors, and preamps. Also, the digital effects that are available are way different than what was used then. Echo is not done anymore with tape or a chamber and good look trying to get the same phasing with digital instead of tape.
I think more or less he was refering to the preverbaly modern blonde porn star look that is "appealing" in today ad/media world opposed to a more natural plain jane look...
