  • I heard you like Apple so we put one pedal in your car.

  • please answer, is 27'' not to big for desktop usage?

  • It's noticeable that you're nervous, but you're doing a GREAT job man, a great job! Keep it up! You're awesome!

  • The 27" makes the 24" look tiny! Holy crap!

  • Dude are you nervous

  • If only they had made a 24" version of the newer version. 27" is too large and 21.5" is too small yet the 24" is the last generation and not even sold from new anymore.

  • My advice is to disallow programs to start up while bootingup. It's gonna slow down the boot up alot.

  • you should get synergyKM and use one keyboard and mouse between then :)

  • i see you...

  • when should i get a imac?

  • @muska4life123 look at macrumors website it is going to be updated sometime between august-october along with the ipod line. Plus they are upgrading the base model and video cards for all. so stay like me and just lie in wait no matter how hard it is.

  • loo9k up bettertouchtool it allows you to add three finger swipe for expose or four finger swipe for application switch.

  • boot testing is a pointless exercise.

why do a test where you can expect with 99% certainty that one will boot quicker than the other.

i mean, a NEW mac is much more likely to boot more quickly than an OLD mac, why are we testing this?????

  • I dislike the iMac 24".. It just looks so small because the width is not even wide, but it's big in height.. I even think the 21.5Inch is way bigger.

  • @BlueprintLuvv actually it is bigger than the 21

  • How good is gaming on the 27"? I'm thinking of junking my PS3 and buying an iMac. Or should I get a MacBook Pro. If I did get the iMac, I could easily get a Lenovo Thinkpad for travel.

  • @YouHaveMetYourMaker I wouldn't prefer it for gaming, but hey, you can play games, although there not very much games for Mac because of the Operating System.. But remember there is always bootcamp which allows you to use different operating systems. I highly recommend the iMac 27" CTO. You really should install Win7 since Windows is the best for gaming, and plus Windows runs better on a Mac.

  • Plz Hellp and Watch my videos of the Imac I7 Review and Unboxing. Its much detailed and shorter which is less time consuming.:)

  • Love the new 16:9 ratio on the new 27" There are 3rd party programs like mouse wizard that will give you for flexibility. Great review and comparison on the two macs.

  • i just saw one today an its AMAZING this computer has so much presence is lake seeing a supermodel in real live WOW

  • An interesting video. Been thinking of buying this myself, but as an occasional gamer, haven't found very good info about the 3.06ghz's performance? Any luck you would've tested your iMac on any new games?

  • FYI!!! Take the magic mouse off of the slip mat. Its made to work on your desk not on a mat.. Just a tip. Then try it out.

  • awsome review,

    one question..

does it have that annoying white light when its on sleep or when the monitor is switched off ?? i have the intel white imac and that white light annoys mee lol

  • @offroad259 Hi. No, it does not have that light.

  • @blakecottington awsommee, i was acually looking at this one today and my dad thought i should get the macboook pro

what do you think imac or macbook pro

  • @offroad259 As much as I love the iMac, if I could only have one computer, it would be the MacBook Pro. I should warn you though that those will likely be refreshed sooner than the iMac. They are overdue.

  • yeah thats what i thought, apple brings a new version of every computer like every 9 months or something lol, its a very hard decision for me.. i'll probs get the imac and then start saving up till the next macbook pro comes out and buy that :) thanks for the advice

  • why ? I've asked many people and i have like 40% imac 27 and 60% macbook pro 17, if i could have both xD

  • @blakecottington good call

  • what about compatibility? i'm a pc user. i don't know i like the style a lot and also it is silent. but as i use my computer with thousands of different software i need to be sure i will not get cooked... because i think many software will not work. what about the games? i have 2 9800 gx2 ge forces. on sli. so i need to know what is capable to do this machine. i also built my pc by myself.

  • If you got enough money to buy a 24inch and a 27inch you should get a good camera at least with a stand even though the iPhones camera is amazing.

  • @iphonebeasty The 24 was sold to help pay for the 27. But I do agree I need a better camera.

  • is it hard to find a really big wallpaper for the 27 inch that will look nice and not all messed up?

  • @claycas92 no it comes with standard wallpapers. Other wise just type in "2560 x 1440" on google images and you will find enough wallpapers.

  • nice men my dad has the 24'' i have the macbook pro 15'' and i'm going to buy the 27'' why do you got al those programs starting up when you start youre mac?

  • @DTACAPTCAVE Thanks. That was just for the test. I don't really have all those starting every time.

  • Great vid.

Thanks for answering some questions for us.

    5/5

  • @SteezyNutz Thanks!

  • Oh! I never knew the 24" and 27" sat at the same height and vertical dimensions with screen increase/"chin" decrease... how handy, makes sense i guess.

  • @Sayhaz0r Can't say for sure... went back to the wired number pad version. I would definitely try a wireless version if Apple made one.

  • Very good video comparison between the two iMacs. When you opened the two Safari windows side by side on the 27 it seemed like they automatically adjusted to fit side by side, is that something that you need to select in preferences or is it automatic?

  • @djready711 Thank you. Unfortunately, no and no. It seems one can only be certain that if another window is opened, it will be the same size and on the same display, but placement is not (always) "automatically" where you want it. I really would like a feature to automatically expand windows to exactly half of the screen a la Windows 7. I doubt we'll see it from Apple though. Anyone find a third party app for this?

  • Try this app: TwoUp.

EDIT: just saw on their website that they are no longer supporting that app (they want you to buy their app...)

  • EDIT 2: You can still download it from Cnet.

  • dude, nice vid. In case you didn't know it, MagicPrefs is an excellent application for the magic mouse. It gives you 3rd mouse button options, and you have more control over sensitivity. In fact, you can set it TOO sensitive. Again, nice video. I subscribed. 5 stars.

  • @rampagetv Thanks a lot. Finally downloaded MagicPrefs tonight (a lot of other people suggested it too). Will see if I can get used to it. Seems very customizable, so that's nice.

  • No problem. I actually use it for my Mighty Mouse (or Apple Mouse now...) to increase tracking speed. It can be done via terminal but this is just way easier. What I really miss in the Magic Mouse is the 3rd mouse button. I use it all the time, to go up and down in web pages, open links in new tabs etc.

  • but , what is the monitor called? you know,

    TFT, LCD,HD,LED.. ??

becouse, im going to search after a good 27 inch monitor !

    ,

and im going to find a monitor , with reflecting monitor, so if you see in the monitor, you can see yourself, and my old ( still using ) i can't see myself, and then, im on internet, its looks like bluring screen

  • It's LED backlit but the iMac is an all in one so it's not a monitor...

  • @MrWonnabee Yes. It is all of those.

  • @MrWonnabee the new imacs got a LED backlit S-IPS monitor. and why would you wanna get a glossy screen. just annoying

  • to get the xbox 360 or ps3 to work on the imac 27inch

you have to get eye 250 plus adapter then it will work

  • Comment removed

  • Your voice is like afraid to say something! :(

  • in the 24 you have zoom ;)

  • If your still having mouse problems I would recommend looking at the Razer Death Adder 3500. It has native OSX support and a lot of really nice options.

  • i think it is 4 months. witch you wouldnt think but i think is>

  • use magicprefs than you get even more functions on the magic mouse than on the migthy mouse (like 3 finger click for expose)

  • @daviddavid1980 Thanks. 3 finger click seems to work well.

  • Hi I was wondering If the 27 inch iMac supports an hd pvr and can I edit the clips I record on the iMac.

  • @Sayhaz0r You can order it with wired peripherals, too. :D

  • I'd be interested to know when apple will do a firmware update to allow non mini display sharing with game systems.

'I dumped my magic mouse almost immediately for the old logitech. I couldn't stand how much work it took to track across the screen! ;-) I also ended up lowering the resolution the see my browser links better. The full blown made everything too tiny for my old eyes...

  • @hallbe: I'm still using the Magic Mouse. Had to replace the batteries once and I definitely know what you mean about the extra "work"

  • The bottleneck here is the harddisk wich is running on around 7000rpm on BOTH machines. The actuall computing power is not relevant for OPENING programs. If you want faster booting times and faster programm opening (Why is that relevant at all????) go for a SSD

  • @Tschugge My thought was if the HDD is a relatively constant variable (as you pointed out), then a side by side should show a visible/tangible difference between the processor, ram, chipset, etc. in otherwise identically configured computers.

  • did you do this on your iphone ?

  • @72master Yep

  • @72master 1:13 he say's he's gonna put the phone down. you can see the apple logo on the reflection.

  • dude, you sound like youre about to cry

  • @NilasStylaz I know, my voice was a little shaky. I was a bit nervous and I was trying to rush to fit everything in

  • I think other than Premier Pro, everything had loaded on the 27-inch before the 24 was even logged in.

  • Download a program called, Better Touch Tool for the magic mouse it allows 3 finger swipes for expose e.t.c...

  • lol taping with ur iphone is nice :)

  • Thanks for that, great to see impressions with objectivity.

  • thank you very much, you helped me. i subscribed you and i hope you accept my friend req.

  • people if you want to buy a cheap 27 imac, dont buy the intel core 2 duo, buy the quad core. 1699 is nothing compared to 1999. 300 bucks is nothing. if you can waste 1699, you can waste 1999. THINK people! (i dont have one, but i want one and want to buy one. I dont have the moeny though). i just have a macbook pro 2008 - 2.4 ghz 4gb RAM 250 5400rpm hardrive.

  • The Magic Mouse's click sound is much louder than other mice, so be aware. And also, gesturing is more of a pain than using a scroll wheel/ball.

The Magic Mouse is just for common tasks, do not think you can edit video/music with this mouse, it's nearly impossible and it was very troubling.

  • I just bought the 24" 3.06GHz back in April, and I'm wondering If it's worth it to sell this computer, and try buying the 27". Is it really worth it? Note: I'm into film, and I'm always using Final Cut Pro and stuff. Thanks!

  • Ha, in exactly the same position, bought the 3.06 in June and a 2.13 MBAir. I think performance wise unless your building a spaceship on it the 24" is fine. I'm just gutted at the price offered to me if i sell my 24". Bigger, better screen and sound are the main difference I think.

  • @UptownHunter it is but don't expect to make much money off the 24 inch 3.06, the highest u could probably sell it for is like 1099

  • Are you serious? That's fucking bullshit.

  • Check out Mac2Sell[.]net. Enter your Mac's information, and it will tell you show much your computer is worth.

  • I have the same thing with an 8800 GS , cost me half the price of the new models (well it's refurbished )and Im loving it. I could never see droping another grand or so for slighty better performance (for what I do) and 3" more of screen room. In fact Im steering clear of it because of its non standard resolution.

  • Glass is actually preferred because it provides better colour saturation - its non obtrusive :)

  • to play video games you need eyetv

  • No one at Apple has heard of a New cord. Nor can they tell if eyetv will be laggy or if it will even work.

  • I wonder if the "new HDMI to Display Port Cord" will do the trick? SO many xboxers want to know. I do not know if that or the eyetv thing will work, thoughts?

  • new imac looks fabulous. anybody agree?

  • oh Yeah, I want one sooo bad.

  • wow, the screen on the 27 looks amazing next to the 24.

  • What thetshirtblog means by 'o' key ?

  • there was a problem with the keyboards

  • have you had any problems with it like slow operation, videos are choppy and slow hdd spin down.also what firmware do you have

  • haydogs2, I have had a video problem happen twice where the screen gets to be like a garbage pattern (best I can describe it). Artifacts I guess they're called. Each time I lost what I was working on and had to reboot. I will be contacting Apple about this promptly. Boot ROM Version:IM101.00CC.B00 SMC Version (system):1.53f10 Is that what you were looking for?

  • blakecottington, have you updated your firmware to 10.6.2 its suposed to fix all those problems

  • Thanks for demo!!!

    I wait for my

    27" quad i7 512mo 8go 2to :D

    Will be ship in november.

    I CANT WAIT anymore.

  • @mamboula69 hope it ships with a functioning 'o' key

  • @mamboula69 oops, meant to say 'b' key!

  • Dude, Hi-five!!

I have the Same Specs as you and I am annoyed by the mysterious Ships in November

  • you recorded it on your phone

  • That IPS screen is a beauty! I may buy one. Didn't know they were that cool.

  • u knw any other ways to connect ps3 to the imac??

  • Have you tried using the magic mouse on a different surface. This could be why it tracks slow.

  • Hi, Blake. I'm wondering if the wireless keyboard has any issues with lag. It's my understanding that Apple is implementing some sort of power-saving sleep feature, and that the keyboard powers up each time you press a key. Have you had a chance to experience that?

  • I'm a pretty fast typist. Not the fastest, but probably above average. I haven't noticed any lag but I did notice a lot of double capitalization when using the shift key. Not a big deal. Could be my typing, but I don't recall it happening this much on the wired version. I haven't checked to see if anyone else was noticing the same thing.

  • hey, I am waiting for the i7's to come out. I was just wondering if you had any performances issues with the 27" imac. i've seen some vidoes that show the 27" black out and screen flicker also flash on you tube is really slow. great video!

  • MrMrpaaj1, I did have one issue with video performance where strange pixelation and artifacts covered the screen. Everything went back to normal after a restart, and I have otherwise had no problems. I'm sure if there are any long term problems with video they will creep up again within the 1 year warranty.

  • if u wana play ur ps3 using ur imac..get the apple tv..u cn connect ur ps3 using apple tv..

  • I have Apple TV. Pretty sure it doesn't work like that.

  • imac 27 v. sony vaio L...thoughts?

  • Prcessors ram... put in an ssd and cs4 and office opens in one bounce.

  • Hi,, nice video,, I have some couple of questions (hope you can answer them)

1.- What is better, 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or 2.66GHz Intel Core i5??

2.- Its really expensive, but do it worth it?

3.- (This is just if you want) Can you make a video about on the 27" playing a movie on hd. I want to see how it looks =).

    Thanks!! =)

  • dtalamas24, the i5 processor is better. Whether or not it's worth it really depends on what you might use the computer for. If you do a lot of processor intensive tasks, the i5 will be worth it for sure. Last, I don't think I could make a good video showing HD playback because my camera isn't great.

  • If i'm not mistaken u can adjust the magic mouse tracking in the system preferences, to make sure for u to move around the screen more faster

  • FirdausLUCT, I did adjust the tracking speed and momentum to the highest settings.

  • I have an older 24". I appreciate the detailed comparison. Thanks!

  • tripod next time

  • I don't think you can get a tripod for iPhone

  • he is using an iphone cut him a break

  • I think it's not really worth it to get a Intel Core 2 Duo 27" iMac. If you already had a 24" or 20" iMac, the best choice would be to wait for the Intel Core i5 or i7 Quad Core Processors. Just a thought. I am getting the i5 one, since my current iMac is a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

  • MOUSE QUESTION: with the whole non-third button - is there an alternative apple has come up with?, such as the 260 degree finger movement? because i play the sims allot (lol i know) and i use the third button extensively throughout the game, and it would be a real pain of there wasn't even an alternative to it.

  • From what I can tell, there is no alternative. Other than scrolling, there is the 2 finger swipe, which is "left/right navigate" only, not customizable

  • Can you tell me the dimensions of the 27'' box ?

  • Really thanks for the vid. I am thinking if I should get the imac 24" refurbished or the new imac 27". If you had to pick just one between the 2 which one would you prefer? Is it worth the extra money to get the 27"?

  • The 27 has a much nicer display, bigger hard drive built in, will accept more memory, has better speakers, etc. If these things are important to you, get the 27. Otherwise, the 24" is still a very nice computer and it probably comes with a generous discount now.

  • Some people complain high pitch noise. Do you notice any?

  • Hi, I have not heard anything abnormal.

  • DISPLAY IN QUESTION. I was wondering if you had a PC Tower, 1. Will it use it like a normal monitor, 2. Does the iMac have to be off or is there a different way to tell it to use IN port even when running?

  • Hello, I have a MacBook Pro with mini DisplayPort, but I don't have the correct cable to test. Sorry. I am not sure if it has to be off for that to work. I have read that it has to be off and I've also read that it can be on but there's a key sequence to initiate. Sorry I can't provide any definitive information.

  • Can we get a Geekbench score?

  • 4312, please check more info on the right for a link.

  • Are you in your own house. You have so many gadgets and stuff lol :)

  • you said that the magic mouse tracking sucks on the 27" inch what about on the 24" inch?

  • The Magic Mouse will not work on the other iMac yet, to my knowledge. Apple needs to release a "Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0" in order for it to work on computers other than the new iMacs. However, I suspect that tracking speed would be better, because it has a lot less pixels.

  • Ok, I've got just one more question, it might be a stupid one, but if you turn off you're computer do you have to turn off the magic mouse and wireless keyboard manually as well? Or do they turn off automatically?

  • There is a power switch on the bottom. It goes into a sleep mode when you don't use it. I don't even worry about it.

  • Is the new imac screen less glossy?

  • Hi. No, they are both glass and equally glossy.

  • Thanks for video. Good to see them side-by-side. HDMI video in to the DisplayPort will work (to play Xbox, PSP and video etc) however we will have to wait until January apparently for HDMI converter to be released. The converter you tried is likely to only work one way ie DisplayPort to HDMI but not HDMI to DisplayPort.

  • Thanks. Your review is much appreciated.

  • to use a ps3 with a mac you need eye tv

  • Could this be my first Mac? Looks awesome. I'll purchase a copy of Windows 7 and run that over this system through bootcamp as my primary OS.

  • I'm getting the 27 inch around christmas for my room! I can't wait! I'll add it with my black macbook!

  • Is it possible to hook up an xbox 360 to a 27" imac

  • Great Video!

  • Thanks for the video! I think the Magic mouse isn't worth it cause it's so hard to use. Does your hand get soar or any feelings after using it for a while?

  • Thanks, my hand doesn't get sore, but I don't use the 2 finger swipe. Just doesn't seem natural.

  • Your EFI was trying to pair your bluetooth mouse and keyboard... thats why it was slower... good video...

  • Good video. I'm gonna get the same 27" iMac but I'm adding the ATI 512MB to it.

In stead of using the mini displayport to turn the iMac in a monitor, I'm gonna use the eyetv hybrid which you can connect to composite video and audio. (the hybrid is also to recieve some tv channels)

    can't wait!!!

  • Thanks for the vid! I'm going to buy an iMac next week, really looking forward to it. But I'm just wondering, does the Magic Mouse need a mousepad? I've heard that you could just leave it on the table, but is tracking still fine then?

  • The Magic Mouse has lasertracking so i don't think you 'il need a mousepad.
