Also, by today's standards Eddie Haskell would have been considered a good, well behaved kid. When you think back, what was the worst thing Eddie ever did (on the show)?? Tame, wasn't it?
Im nearly sixty so grew up in these time but what is funny is when I talk about this show its mostly the episodes with Eddie, growing up I did meet a few like him.
Wow, Mr. Osmond looks great! Re. Frank Bank: I once read that he claims he used to sleep with so many girls during the LITB years (think it's in his book). Jerry Mathers pretty much laughed at that statement! He wasn't very good-looking, in my opinion, and since he bragged about using women, he certainly comes across as someone with issues! He even brags about how he earns so much more money today than he could acting ...
LITB was one of the greatest TV programs in history, it captured America at that era perfectly, like the movie American Graffiti it captured a time that will never be seen again, Mr. Haskell portrayed Eddie perfectly, everyone knew someone like him in school, love live Leave it to Beaver, I still watch the reruns when they are on !!
yeah, osmond looks good for an old guy.......for years the rumor persisted that he died of gunshot wounds while serving a police officer.....also......the rumor persisted that jerry mathers (beaver) died in The Viet Nam War
Eddie Haskell should come back to a show business, I miss his character so bad. How could any producer turn him out of the business.....something wrong with this world. What you said, "Eddie was a great roll model for all of us!"......W...R...O...N...G!
Believe me, If I were a casting director, I'd cast him as a cop, military officer, lawyer or a corporate officer in a heartbeat. He certainly did get unfairly typecast after LITB.
Even Mathers could have landed some pretty darned good roles outside the Beaver character.
@pm0501 I know you commented on this 2 months ago, but after LITB he became a motorcyclye cop for the Califonia Hiway Patrol. That's right he was a real life CHiP. He was featured on an 80's show called TOP COPS. He was shot 7 times while chasing a suspect, but fortunately he was wearing a bullet proof vest which were not required at that time. After that incident all CHiP officers were required to wear them.
ken osmond played a kid most likely to become a criminal yet became a cop,if that aint acting i dont know what is,lol.thank you mr. osmond for your years of service.
Ken Osmond is right in saying that he "is a friend every where." I can testify to this. I met him and his wife in Reno, Nevada at the Hot August Nights classic car event. They were very nice people and spent several minutes talking to me. Eddie Haskell has always been my hero and always will be. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Kenneth Osmond (born June 7, 1943) is an American actor known for his role of Eddie Haskell on the original Leave It to Beaver television situation comedy, which ran on CBS from October 4, 1957 to 1958 and then on ABC from 1958 to June 20, 1963.... Happy 67th Birthday Eddie,,uuhhh.. I mean Ken...
TV Icon? hahahahaha He had a one-note, minor, supporting role, followed by...nothing. He couldn't get subsequent roles because he lacked emotional depth even as a journeyman craftsman. In short, he lacked the "IT" factor to the 10th power.
@thegibbshow Are you kidding? I tune in just to see him. And he wasn't just a one-note" Eddie did have a heart.. There's actually whole episodes built around the character where they show he's not a complete "creep". But he was a great creep.
@CreepyCrawlyCat That's the only generation who has ever received any respect. The rest of us simply don't matter. Spoiled is a very accurate word to describe them.
@NCISFAN1954 Yes, it was called The New Leave It To Beaver and ran for three seasons. Ken was in it, of course, and his real-life son played his son on the show. Preceding that was a reunion movie called Still The Beaver. It was filmed not long after Hugh Beaumont (Ward) passed away.
@NCISFAN1954 I met Ken a few years ago. Really nice guy. He and Frank Bank were at an antiques show in Tacoma WA. I had my camera with me and got some pictures of the three of us together.
I believe the reason the Eddie character was so successful is that he was believable. Every kid knew someone at least a bit like Eddie. He was a smoozing, wise-ass, duplicitous, selfish charmer - but a VERY funny one. I'm sure Eddie must have gone into sales!
Yes. I agree. That was my first thought as well. I was also born in the 70's and know who Eddie Haskell is! OMG! I grew up watching the reruns of Leave It To Beaver, I Love Lucy, etc. Just comes to show you what great television shows those were and still are as 50 some years later you can still find the reruns of these shows on TV - The TV Land Channel here where I live.. Actually I'd rather watch these shows for the most part as they are still just as fun and entertaining to watch now.
Why does O'Reilly assume that Baby Boomers are the only ones who know who Eddie Haskell was? I was born in the 70s and I'm part of the later Gen X crowd and I grew up with the reruns of Leave it to Beaver. My 12 year old nephew who was born in 1997 watches reruns of Beaver. Children today know about Eddie Haskell more then they do characters from a lot of 80s and 90s shows. Boomers don't own the 50s anymore then any other generation "claiming" a decade.
@gothatway09 I was born in the 80s and Leave it to Beaver is one of my favorite shows. I watched it constantly growing up and STILL watch it. O'Reilly just wants to be ignorant all the time of everything. I don't know if you remember, but he did call our generation "stone-cold slackers" once. Apparently, our generation means nothing to him as he likes to stereotype us.
@gothatway09 Saw the show in the 60's several times, but its not the same as those who grew up with the actors in the 50's appearing in fan magazines, TV ads, were much more public figures. So that's what he is referring to. I also enjoyed the stars from the radio days of the 30's & 40's like Jack Benny but once again the importance they played to those who were entertained by them during the depression & WW2 is much greater. Its the same for each generation. You had to be there.
@gothatway09, Except that's not really true. I'm not a Boomer, and, like you, I've watched the show and am well acquainted with the characters. But the fact is that many younger people -- like so many others -- are slaves of their age and have never watched such shows. If you don't believe me, just take an informal random poll of younger folks and see how many know who Haskell is. The percentage won't be very high.
Ken Osmond. Boy, did he give me, my brother and all our friends something to laugh and talk about when we were kids. I still enjoy the reruns on the Retro TV network. Unfortunately, they don't make shows like this one anymore. Shows with heart and brotherly love.
Eddie Haskell was the most influential person in my life during the formative years. He made me what I am today. A scheming, underhanded, disingenuous, duplicitious person.
When OReilly comes on, I switch to Fox BUSINESS News and watch Judge Andrew Napolitano on "Freedom Watch." I get the news of the day and learn about the Constitution! What a deal!
Baby boomers, Baby boomers, wtf?! Who're the baby boomers again? I know I'm not, but I still see Eddie Haskell as the quintessential suck up/naughty kid... I wish they'd quite acting like "baby boomers" are the only ones who know who he is... sheesh.
