  • wow che bello riascoltarla!!♥

  • Wooow! this sound is 100% pure nostalgy for me :(

  • Wow! A total Electronic Gem. Why was this not massive? This deserves to be blasting out of speakers at an electriconic club night like "Electric Dreams" in London.

  • Wonderful song. I remember dancing to this at 950 club in Chicago in the early/mid 80s.

  • gEORG iS tHE gUVNA................

  • People know House came from Chicago but the world still hasnt heard the underground dance sound that started their too. Now both are the most underground music of them all.

  • This one and Stop were classic cuts at Medusas

  • @g1a1h1 This song was the last song played at Medusa's on Sheffield. Psycho Bitch played it three times in a row. People didn't want to leave so they wound up closing at 6:00 AM…..

  • ahhhh dancing on the scaffold at Medusa's ;)

  • Medua's dancing on the scoffold!!!!! ;)

  • If you want custom mixes with this music form the Medusa days contact me and we can work something out. I even Dj'd at Medusa's one night for Teri Bristol when she was sick. This is not the 12" original mix. This is from the Razormaid Atrocity Set.

Anyone looking for this kind of music, I have it all. Contact me.

  • Great song and great beat! The singing is awesome too. Shame they never received more acclaim for their pioneering work. :(

  • Thanks for posting this... an amazing song

  • fantastic. Haven't heard this for decades, literally

  • it seems to me, that good music like this, very often gets overheard, because of the old people at the time it came out, were people that mostly listended to the old music.

  • This is a cool track!! Thnx.

  • Such a talented guy.

  • funny to think they were label mates of sex gang children,400 blows and portion control...all on illuminated label.

  • Får jävla bra.

  • Italo disco rulez

  • Spectacular techno sound 1983.

One of the best themes synthpop 80's

  • mr kajanus you are a legend! class tunes you write! makes me wish i had musical talent! my new years resolution....to learn how to play the korg i got for xmas.....tips anyone? xXx

  • play every day, if ist a workstation, take one stage at a time , and dont play waisted it will sound shit the next day.

  • yes, yes! :-))

  • so so good!! 1981..

  • No NO 1983 ..

  • class tune

  • Wow... this is so cute... Is this american? I don't remember ever hearing or seeing this. The singer looks a bit like HAZEL O CONNOR back then.

All we heard in terms of 80's electronic stuff from Canada and the US were Devo, Suicide, Lime or Dominatrix...

  • I came across my 7" of this song tonite and I have been playing it all night long!!

  • I've got the 45" laying around somewhere....

  • I can smell the clove cigarettes.

  • I wanted to buy this track on iTunes but they do not have ANY of their stuff....bummer!

  • @scuba453

They do have Data's album Elegant Machinery, and some other stuff by them, but not the album with this song

  • I love how there are so many people from Chicago in particular who remember this song and commented here. The 80s club scene there was the best. I moved to Chicago in 1983 and spent many, many nights enjoying this song and others at 950, Neo, Exit, Smart Bar, Berlin, Medusas, Octagon and a series of other clubs that didn't last nearly as long as the more venerable ones listed. (Anyone remember Industry off Grand St near downtown, circa 1990?) Great memories all around!

  • Yes, yes is do. I spun at many of those clubs in the day. I had the original 12" single on vinyl, the was like gold back then. i swear it was out of print by the time the razormaid versions came out.

i still have unopend copies of this single both original import and razormaid's

I totaly forgot about Octogan! I also played this at Limelight and Cairo.

I just was at a friends 20th high school reunion party last weekend where we played this at. in Chicago of course..

  • Yeah, I remember Industry. I was a Medusa's regular myself.

  • hi do you or any one have there song politics??

  • Synthpop will NEVER die!

I first heard of DATA in 1985 when I bought their Elegant Machinery tape. Great group! I'll have to find their earlier music.

  • REAL and TRUE 80s underground music mavens know who Data is. I have this on a re-issued 12". They also had a cool song "You're Only 21" (well all their music is fab). Thanks for posting!

  • So good... Hypnotic and uplifting. It has the right dramatic feel of the best new Romantic / Electronica pop songs of the beginning of the 80s.

A golden era in pop music.

  • This is CULT! :)

  • whats old is new again yess

  • Wow!!

    Finally!!!

    Data!!

Pleasant memories come up..especially when is was introduced to this track back in the fall of 1983...Not knowing that Data was a Georg Kajanus creation after he left Sailor.

  • Great video, it sure brings back some good memories!

  • My ode to the wonderful Data, the 2008 club mix of their song "Romy Haag", can now be heard on my channel. Look for the Matt Mix, I hope you'll enjoy it! Matt Pop.

  • Very great!!!!! Thanks a lot!

  • awesome!! 5*****!!

    80s rules forever!!!

  • Brilliant 5*

  • I think I remember first hearing this song at "Neo" in Chicago. We used to head there when to many suburb kids invaded Medusas.

  • i'm gay.

  • Illuminate Records will LIVE ON FOREVER!

Used to love that label and its artists.

This was one of the best 12" records I ever bought.

Love the 'Moog' sound of the bass and that British EQ is da bomb!

  • Heck yeah!! Good times!! Thanks for sharing!!

  • Really neat to hear this song after all of this time. I have memories of hearing this at Lucky Number in the mid 90's. Thanks!

  • I have been looking for this exact mix forever!! thx!

  • I nearly had a stroke when I finally found this on YouTube; I thought I'd never hear this song again. Thank you!!!!!!!

  • fantastici DATA...un po' tanto ispirati ai nostrani KRISMA......che li hanno preceduti di qualche anno

  • Ahhh gli anni '80...in Italia! almeno si rideva di piu':) oggi?

  • All at once, this song summarises the best and the worst of synth-pop worlds. Amazingly catchy with sincere touching melody, it's a funny mixture in image and tone - confusingly sterile keyboard player against a mild s/m heroine (think Annie Lennox); music is the winner although it's a sad example of one-hit wondering - Data are somewhat misunderstood proto-new wave duo alright but just as closer to the Eurovision song contest. A song Falco, Desireless, Erasure, ABBA or Telex would've killed for

  • One hit wonder? not sure i can agree to that acording to my memory DATA was popular for atleast a couple of years.... but maby im wrong, long time ago... =) still one of my fav bands in that time ^^

  • Certainly not a one-hit wonder group. Remember Richochet Love, etc.? Data were obviously mis-managed because they contribution to the 80's scene is incredibly under-played. The strong image and voice projected by Frankie with the backing of song-writer Georg produced an undeniably unusual sound that beat Annie Lennox's always. However, the UK media did not recognise it and the group's talent was overlooked. Sad, but great to see this video here on Youtube.

  • @Jonathandreamer Did DATA chart in other countries? It's the sort of record I would have bought at the time (but unfortunately I didn't hear it.)

  • @britishfirstandlast I'm not sure if it did in the US but in Chicago this song was super hot. Well....it was popular in the "underground" night clubs.

  • @rosethearttherapist Yes indeed this was a big hit in Chicago as well as many many other underground songs…. :-) Chicago has been way ahead of the times when it comes to music…

  • @Jonathandreamer I think that it is because that most of the people in that time, were only lisining to rock music with gitars, because that they thought that music without gitars in it, has nothing to do with music at all, and when it were only some of the bands that played this kind of music that Data did, that got money enough, so they could still living by it, and when i think that most times it all depends on money, unfortunatly.

  • love love data <3

  • Endless thanks. This was one of the first songs I heard in Neo's Chicago. Are there more songs similar with female vocalists?

  • grazie.. da tempo che non riascoltavo questa mitica canzone... thanks!!

  • One million thank yous! I've been looking for this for over 20 years, and I'm not exaggerating. I've tried looking it up, but googling the word 'data', I end up with an endless selection of entries. This song by Data, also 'over 21' and a song by a band called Technos...the three have been haunting me for years. Once again, thank you.

  • Hallo!

    Vielen Dank

    Gerd Schwonke

  • Not just Medusa's -- this got played a lot at the Octagon in Chicago as well!

  • OMG theres actually a video to this song?? This song reminds me so much of the STARCK Club In Dallas.

Great Memories, from what I can remember!

  • It's hard to believe that's Georg Kajanus, he looks so different to how he was in Sailor. Awesome track, too.

  • Wow! I have been looking for this song for years. This brings back great Medusas memories for me too, 1985-87. No longer in Chicago but I miss the music from those days.

    Lana in Atlanta

  • The sound is cool. Don't know what to think about the song.

  • great song, just heard it now for the first time. Knew I would like it.... She has a great voice. Nice melody and synths RULE!... Geee, the 80's are so untouchable, I hate now, it's so damn bland and crap!....

  • Data are amazing, and this is one of their best.

Great that their albums have been re-released. Synthpop genius!

  • still dance to this one in clubs. one of my favs

  • I loved the rituals that went on there every week as well, like during the original of "just cant get enough" by DM, everyone did the same dance step during the techno break in the middle of the song where they would stomp to the beat. The whole floor would be bouncing and felt like it was going to collapse! Or during "welcome to paradise" by Front 242, in the middle of the track it would go "no sex untill marriage" everyone would scream F**K THAT! at the same time. Ahh good stuff

  • Re: Medusas. I love to hear other people talk about Medusas and how great it was. That really was a special place for so many people. Not only was the music there top notch, the space itself was so bad ass. People would pack that place and just get down and jack all night.

  • One of my fondest memories of Medusa's was the 2 older ladies that worked the front and collected the money. At times they would even play security and frisk you. Aside from the different theme every week, the music and atmosphere was unforgettable. I ran into Dave Medusa and Blue years later at a reunion party for the Medusa allumni. Great Memories!!

  • wow. thank you. I have been waiting forever to hear this song again.

    Tom in Chicago.

  • i can't believe you uploaded this. i've been looking for months. thank you! thank you!

  • This song from the first album i think the colour was white. Listen to the beat i love it. Yhanks to you who let everyone listen to this fab band from the 80s

  • The song is from their second album "2-time" from 1983 (and you're right: the cover colour is mainly white). Their first LP was "Opera electronica" from 1981.

  • beautiful track.. - i was going 2 medusa's when i was attending the art inst... so many of my friends did performance art or played there. it was such a multimedia extravaganza - something different in every room... perhaps because you couldn't drink (everybody took care of the substances b4 hitting the club, lol). who were the originators of medusas, does anyone know? please reply to this comment if you do, thanks!

  • well, dave medusa owned medusa's. he does/did own the mission in elgin and has also has/does sponsor nights in the city. try googling

  • thnx tripbrother! :)

  • wow, so cool. so many people remember this song and the times at beautiful wonderful medusas. must give love to dave blue rodney tom terry mark and a list lasting miles. thanks for this... robert

  • I loved Medusa's too. I actually preferred it to Neo's and Exit. I would love to buy a copy of your CD not just for reliving those days and eating at Tacos Garcias after clubbing, but also hoping to find the name of this song I taped off BMX. Thanks.

  • Very cool indeed. Check out the Medusa's group on Facebook, if you have not already. A lot of there... :)

  • I think I'm dreaming. Thanks alot for this!

  • One of my fondest memories was on my birthday in 1984, I think. My friend Laurel asked Medusa's DJ that night, Bud Sweet, to play my three favorite songs when I showed up. "Living Inside Me" was first among them, and it's still a favorite.

Bud introduced me to Data and lots of other great music at Neo and elsewhere. Those were definitely great times in Chicago!

    Mark -- Still in Chicago

  • You always have a good ear for music. I like this song, the voices are great. She reminds me a little of Blondie. I can feel the emotion coming thru on this song, very good. Thanks, Jes.

  • Not sure if you guys know how big of a Classic tune this was in Chicago at Clubs like Medusa's and Smart Bar, back in the mid to late 80's. Thanks to DJs like Mark Stephens, Teri Bristol, Hot Rod and a few more. I love this one... Looked for the original version for ever ... finally found it some years later. Thanks soooo much for this.
