  • It doesnt sound like the music we hear on TV is being played in the studio, or else its not audible on this recording. Do they play it in the studio, or is just piped to the recording only, anyone ever been to a taping?

  • @oldertvshowswerebetr They do play the main sounds, like the Come on Down music, the Main theme, and the Big Wheel beeps, but I cannot remember if they played them all.

  • By the way, TPIR's current director (as of 2011) is Michael Dimich; Rich DiPirro has too many on his plate now including Family Game Night (with Todd Newton and Burton Richardson, who announced on the Doug Davidson TPIR and was one of the sub-announcers after Rod Roddy's death).

  • @johnnyafairbanksak Michael Dimich isn't bad. I consider him "Bart Eskander done right."

  • For me, 1991-2007 (my golden age of Price is Right) :D

  • wayne brady bitchies fuck drew carey

  • Maybe I'm just not hearing it, but I always thought the tunes they play would be played during the taping.

  • Bob Barker for President

  • @AmericanPride1234 I attended a taping in April 2007. During a commercial break, someone suggested that to Bob, to which he replied, "Sure. And maybe I'll become a bodybuilder and run for governor of California". I'm sure a lot of people agree with you. Actually, there was once a showcase which centered around what things would be like if Bob were president.

  • @AmericanPride1234 I would vote for him

  • This looks like 1980. The Contestant's Row seating switched from blue to green around late 1980-early 1981.

  • How interesting, even with all of Johnny's antics and dancing about the studio; the audience was still sitting politely in their seats. Today's audience's would be jumping up and down and shouting.

  • 1984-1992 are the golden years

    1980-1983 are the silver years

  • The Price is Right from 1972 to June 1975 is what I call the Golden Years. From August 1975 to February 1982 is what I call the Silver Years, and those 2 periods were the best in the show's 37 years, in my opinion!

  • i wish had seen eps earlier than 1984...1984-1991 is the golden age of tpir in my world...

  • Well, there are some here on Youtube.

  • What was the instrumental piece in the background?

  • Manhattan Skyline from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.

  • My T.V. show here on YouTube mentions TPIR

  • Great video, thanks for posting! Johnny Olsen was one of a kind. By far, the greatest game show announcer of all time. His voice, his charisma, and his overall greatness are forever legendary!

  • We have yet to see a new behind the scenes look with current director Bart Eskander since we already got Johnny Olson/Marc Breslow and Rod Roddy/Paul Alter as well as a Rich Fields warm-up.

  • CORRECTION: TPIR's new director is Rich DiPirro (their fourth after Breslow, Alter, and Eskander).

  • Wow this is a very outstanding quality video despite Bob with dark hair!! Nice to see behind the scenes stuff :)

  • One time, I was at a taping w/ Drew Carey, and we had a brief stopdown with Hi-Lo for an unknown reason (maybe the products were in the wrong order)

  • I'd feel bad if I were the contestant and my game messed up, because it's better if things go smoothly. I wonder why they couldn't bring up the 6 in Any Number before they stopped tape but they were able to bring it up after the stop.

  • Probably a frayed wire, or a sticky button

  • I went to a taping once and experienced a brief stopdown because the display on an SP stand for Spelling Bee wouldn't light up. :-D

  • We went to TPIR in May of '07,just before Bob retired. Too bad Johnny and Rod weren't there. I would have loved to have been there when Johnny did this warm up. RIP Johnny O' and Rod Roddy.

  • This is great...always love seeing behind the scenes footage, but this is just classic Price in it's prime!

  • Thanks for this rare clip. It's always fun seeing the behind-the-scenes of game shows like TPIR!

  • Marc Breslow (at 1:00) is the best director of game shows ever!

  • yep, he directed many of the great Goodson-Todman GS's in TPiR, Family Feud (w/ Ray Combs), Trivia Trap, Card Sharks, Match Game, NYSI among shows he directed.

  • @armymjm too bad Bob Barker didn't like him

  • @lakebay972 I agree - thanks to him, Marc got fired by someone that considered him to be his son, Mark Goodson, and after Mark Goodson did that, both he and Marc Breslow were sworn enemies of Bob Barker after he was promoted to EP in 1986 - hellva way to treat a guy, huh?

  • This is great! I'd love to know what this is from and the year.
