  • this song deserves way more views. the first day ive heard it, i was listening to this song nonstop for about 7 hours straight

  • Bass line in the intro sounds a lot like Jaco!

    Lovely.

  • Damn.

The combination of the genres is combinaf jfj ncncl ld b ikasib ihsiz badv

  • sounds more like cosmological jazz metal? seems to have a bigger drum and bass emphasis to it rather than the typicall reused guitarwork. video for anticosmic overload seems to have shit ton of subliminal messaging matching with music too. looks like there trying to show how easy it is espcially when your drummer rip shit apart

  • fuckin love that bass

  • JPT is a genious (too) !

  • there is definitely influence from my favorite three bands in this song and band: Metallica, Rush, and Death. This band is so nasty

  • JPT is a a genious !

  • are you really gonna compare obscura to DEATH \m/? THE GODFATHERS OF DEATH METAL?

  • @DeathSpiritCrusher20 Yes. I like obscura more.

  • @DeathSpiritCrusher20 Obscuras biggest influence is death and they are like a modern day death, my 2 favorite bands.

  • @DeathSpiritCrusher20 they deserve to be compared! they have so much potential!

  • @The6Black6Metal6 in case you dont know death is the band that started all technical death metal, you cant compare any death metal band to them, they dont call chuck schuldiner the godfather of death metal for no reason haha

  • @DeathSpiritCrusher20 I'm very well aware, in fact I'm wear my Death shirt right now.

  • @DeathSpiritCrusher20 yes because they say they are very strongly influenced by death. i think it is a fair comparison, death was doing things no one else was doing in their time, obscura is doing things no one else is currently doing.

  • I listen to this song after my shower and at the end my hair is dry... and then there is water all over the bathroom

  • @JHKHSVJSSRV POWDERED DOUGHNUTS MAKE ME GO NUTS...

  • hmm... I wonder why this song doesnt have any drum covers xD

  • id say this song can keep up with cosmic sea...imo

  • Sounds like Opeth... so amazing, considering the rest of album doesn't sound like this.

  • I love this song. And no more than thieves by soulfallen.

  • Clicked on this from a Gojira video. Cool shit.

  • Chido... que buen tema!!!!

  • Call of ktulu? Haven't heard it, don't wana hear it. Anyway, are you talking about the part from 1:15 -1:45? Cuz it doesn't sound a lot like obscura (that's my opinion)

  • @chobybutcher Call of Ktulu is a good song. It's a Metallica classic. And everyone's referring to the intro of Call of Ktulu and the intro of orbital elements. It's almost the exact same chord progression.

  • sounds like a the call of ktulu, metallica fuckyea

i like this song, a great instrumental

  • I love the diminished chord that was used in this song.

  • PERFECTION IN MUSIC

  • time long past*

  • Comment removed

  • This reminds me"The Call Of Ktulu", and it's great. Obscura made a masterpiece with their song, Metallica too, it's 2 different genre but it's metal before anything else !

    So just listen =)

  • @aeromaxmat the acoustic guitar is kinda same as a time long lost by "fates warning" and i agree the bass line in the begining sounds alot like call of kthulu, but its still original as hell you can just clearly see where there influence is coming from

  • @420ibanezz Right

  • No words.....

  • Shit. Listen to that bass. :D

  • voice of the soul can be not replaced, but this is cool!

  • This reminds me a little bit of Dream Theater. Great stuff! I'm definitely going to check out more Obscura

  • Fuckin' Masterpiece

  • The only songi like from them i meant to say.

  • This is basically the only song i live from them. The guitars are so hypnotizing.

  • provoco suscribirse

  • This band really took off after Thesseling and Muenzner joined, but all of their work is really awesome. These guys are nicely filling the void that Death's sad departure from progressive metal left.

  • @HandofMisery Dont forget Grossman on drums! haha

  • @BxT4POUTxP Yeah, Grossmann is one hell of a drummer. Loved his work with Necrophagist, even though Muhammed wrote all his parts.

  • @HandofMisery Hell yeah. And i totally agree about what you said before. These guys are the next best thing after death.

  • @ProkreatedThrash Voice of the Soul is not a rip off shitty hangar 18.VOTS is a masterpiece.Don't even compare anything to it.

  • @JHKHSVJSSRV Read my comment again kid.

  • @ProkreatedThrash I mean you shouldn't even mention VOTS above.

  • @JHKHSVJSSRV Do you understand sarcasm?

  • @ProkreatedThrash Sarcasm brings me orgasm!

  • saw em in germo AMAZING

  • Imho I would place this instrumental among 5 best metal instrumentals together with Cynic's Textures and Sepultura's Inquisition Symphony... You can pick the other two

  • @ProkreatedThrash The similarities that this band produces in comparison to numerous other songs (especially their desire to pick the popular ones) is blatantly obvious. That's why when Obscura is "similar" to another song, it's a rip off.

  • This Album is a Cosmorgasm...

  • @Nikkimetal666 Cosmeargasm

  • lovelovelovelovelovelove

  • Dat Fretless 6 string bass.

  • @23animosity23 its also a warwick.

  • It does sound similar to call of ktulu but its deffinately not even CLOSE to being a ripoff. beginning also reminds me of Is there anybody out there?(Pink Floyd) really good song though

  • Jeroen Paul Thessing is definetly a frontrunner in fretless metal bass playing. Many kudos to him!

  • Every metal instrumental has some jack-off saying it's a Metallica rip-off. People are fucking stupid.

  • Fantastic! The bass line and sound are superb.

  • @000theUnforgiven000 It's more like Hearts Alive by Mastodon ^^

  • @probassistNOT The doors that way ---->

  • @ProkreatedThrash I didn't want to say that it is a Mastodon ripoff,so chill dude.

  • @probassistNOT Lol it was all in good spirit

  • this is an OMFG song

  • @000theUnforgiven000 Haha, Metallica must be the only Metal band you have heard of.

  • @Soriua the only band good enough to be successful around the world...

  • i love this band one of the best idk know but this band s better then metalica

  • @000theUnforgiven000 YOU WERE JUST OWNED!

  • @000theUnforgiven000 I beg to differ.

  • BOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LoL Jeroen is my friend! XD

  • @ProkreatedThrash DAMN That artist used a G chord! HEY NO ONE EVER USE THAT CHORD AGAIN! hahahaha.

  • i know a guy in this band XD

  • @Narutofreak7775 Lucky, fucker.

  • @000theUnforgiven000 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHA DON'T SAY SHIT!!

  • I don't think it is a rip off, more like a nod to their (possible) influence.

  • @000theUnforgiven000 There was like one chord that sounded similar lol.

  • @000theUnforgiven000 that sounds different

  • @ProkreatedThrash don't sweat it man, that is your typical metallica fanboy. thinks every other band out there is a metallica ripoff and that hey are the kings of metal, yeah right. But yeah, metallica fanboys are not known for their wide or tasteful musical preferences. Rock on \m/

  • @icemaster13 Well you have to agree that Metallica was a big influence and inspiration for today's musicians.

  • METALLICA!!! they doesnt even know half of music theory that obscura know!!

  • @chamucopirata Yeah Metallica eats poop.

  • @chamucopirata I love Obscura and all, but so fucking what?

  • Totally! I think their argument really has to do with the idea of making something original that sounds absolutely nothing like something else, but that of course is absurd because certain phrasings are pretty standard. Certain chords and notes have a distinct sound that are only understood as original according to who used them first or popularized them the most, apparently that guy doesn't understand that or is a jealous no-talent-ass-clown!

  • @000theUnforgiven000 your tone def, have no sense of timing or scales...just because its a slow riff?? i like metallica as much as the next guy(old metallica only) but your a retard...

  • the perfect band

  • voice of the soul......anyone

  • this is way better than the call of ktulu lol

  • The bass player in this band is extremely talented. It's great to hear metal bands that have bass players that can out do the lead guitar! haha

  • @TheDr13 and to top it off he plays a fretless bass which is not seen to much in the metal world. (Well I can't think of any bands that use them off the top of my head).

  • @AndarLucifer

    quo vadis ;)

  • @AndarLucifer BTBAM

  • @AndarLucifer A couple bands would be These guys, Necrophagist, Death, and some of Cynic's tunes.

  • brilliant song !

  • I won't lie, it reminded me of The Call of Ktulu right when I got here, just a little bit though.

  • If this is Call of Kthulu , this is what Mettalica should have written instead of Unforgiven 2. Props to Obscura

  • does sound like call of ktulu but who gives a fuck???!!

its music and i'm not here to bitch about so neither should you metallica extremest

  • wow, this strongly resembles the last song off Metallica's "Ride the Lightning"

  • i think its good that obscura has its own 'voice of the soul'

  • one of their greatest songs! but the most people just know anticosmic overload, what a pitty for this great band!

  • Just listen to the damn song...

  • Jeez, I am indeed a metallica fanboy who hasnt ever heard of Obscura.

But im apalled at all the people going "KTULU RIPOFF"

OH NO, THEY USED A CLEAN GUITAR RIFF THAT SOUNDS VAGUELY SIMILAR, SUE THEM!!!

Yeah, as someone else said, Hammett RIPS off Hendrix and probably some others yet no one complains about that >.>

  • @FlamePhoenix2009 See they do this because old school metal fanboys do anything to give death metal a bad name because they don't like death metal. I love both death metal and thrash metal and infact both the genres are extremely similar. For example: Obscura was influenced by death, death was influenced by slayer, slayer was influenced by black sabbath.

  • @Scottland50

I probably fit into the category of an old metal fanboy. I don't care much for death metal myself. But this is good music, why shd anyone put it down? We shd all just appreciate what they wrote!

Yeah i agree tho, they are similar, apart from the vocals. So a death instrumental is pretty much the same as an old skl metal instrumental.

continuing that chain, listen to diamondhead/motorhead & early metallica. Vocals are slightly diff, thats all. Even some of the riffs are stolen

  • CALL OF CTHULU RIPOFF!

Oh wait…I'm not a moron, nevermind.

  • honestly, there are so many songs out there that pretty much now any thing a new band writes is going to sound similar to it.

  • who cares if they sound similar, it's good music you douche fuck.

Exhumed sounds like early Carcass! OHNOES!

  • @000theUnforgiven000 Dude, the chord progression or tuning isn't even the same... The scale is even different, tempo is too, overall progression is too.

Just because both bands play acoustic arpeggios you call it a rip off... Lol.

Obscura is composed of madly talented musicians...

  • @000theUnforgiven000 yea well kirk hammet stole most of his solos from jimmi hendrix no one seems to be giving him shit by that logic metallica are ripoffs too

  • Comment removed

  • All you cunts are gay, Obscura rule! The end

  • Comment removed

  • @000theUnforgiven000 Okay C was where you lost me again. I thought it was established that the chord progression being used has been used before either bands wrote their songs. It's also not the same key. Just give up. You're not gonna hear the end of it.

  • The entering arpeggio sounds exatly like the break of "voice of the soul"- Death, played a bit faster... Ok inspiration is 1 thing, this is more than that.!

  • More Opeth than anything else. Still awesome though. They are a great band. Even Shakespeare ripped off others frequently

  • HAIL OBSCURA.

    FUCK METALLICA.

  • @000theUnforgiven000 listen to voice of the soul then listen to this song

  • @000theUnforgiven000 Yes, but what you see as a similarity is just showing that you know jack shit about music. The arpeggios sound similar because they're from the same type of chord. There's only so many chords available to use, it's a given in music that they will be used repeatedly. It's just a madd9, I'm willing to bet that the reason both used it is simply because it's a really cool sounding chord, no copying involved. Basic arpeggios are used in music quite a bit, especially in metal.

  • @Hobble WELL DUH, EVERYONE KNOWS THAT METALLICA INVENTED MINOR CHORDS

  • sounds good but also sounds like Call of the Kthulu

  • Does somebody knows this on guitar? I have some doubts with the solo and finger placements.

  • Comment removed

  • @ProkreatedThrash The beginning guitar riff sounds like the one at 2:08 in voice of the soul but played a little faster

  • we need more instramentals like this

  • This instrumental is really good and I love this band, but as to you saying it can keep up to Voice Of The Soul... In my opinion, Voice Of The Soul is the best instrumental. But, everyone's opinion is their own. This is a very good song, man. Thanks for the upload.

  • I've been fucking hooked on this band since i saw them open for black dahlia

  • trippy. as. fuck.

  • INADMISSIBLE! those motherfuckers can't copy a song like tha MASTERPIECE OF ALL TIME.. Poor Evil Chuck... R.I.P. !

  • The first bass lines sent chills down my spine

  • @inuboy23 listen to Obscura "Incarnated". that shit is more trippy than pretty much every thing else. the new album Omnivium is going to be amazing

  • its a good song. I would not say up there with Voice of the Soul though.

  • @inuboy23 i take back what i said. this song is great. i agree with the one who posted this

  • You guys are dorks.Just listen to the song.

  • @omekrab high end warwick hellborg amp. But this bass is made by him and has 72 tones per octive. each whole tone is divided into 12 steps.

  • the bass is insane :D

  • this IS the Technical Death Metal version of Voice of the Soul. I really think Chuck would be proud of these guys.

  • @omekrab i just read in BP that he's using Jonas Hellborg's amp setup.

  • his bass its self is his own creation though.its a 72 tone per octave wich each whole tone has 12 steps.

  • this band proves that you can sound great and brutal and still go slow. they're not even playin at a thousand miles an hour yet u can still headbang. But there's nothing wrong with playing fast :)

  • He uses Jonas Hellborg's new Warwick rig- you know, the ultra audiophile one that costs more than a small bus full of Tai whores.

  • @RyMachine

    mmmm

    Thai whores sounds spicy

  • la raha igual a voice of the soul

  • that fretless bass makes me all giddy inside. I hope that I'm as skilled as him one of these days.

  • obskewrra

  • how do u pronounce the bands name

  • @RILEYproMAGICIAn

    are you serious

  • @Melissaamorx A non-English speaker who's never heard the name spoken aloud has to find out somehow.

  • @RILEYproMAGICIAn "awbskyewra"

  • @RILEYproMAGICIAn It's like Obscure. With an AH at the end.

  • hehe

  • I shat myself at 3:28

  • These guys should be more out there

  • god this band is good I love it since the first time I've heard them. *****

  • good sir it is not the sound of ur instrament that fucks shit up tis the skill of the weilder of thyne instrament matey

  • This kicks lots of ass, don't get me wrong, especially the bass, but I don't think this is as good as Voice of the Soul.

I doubt anything will ever be as good as Voice of the Soul.

  • yeah i agree thats probably one of the best instrumental out there

  • Warwick fucks yo shit up!

    Best basses ever.

    Amfisound guitars for guitars too!

  • I think he has his own signature bass amp line now. I'm not sure. It might just be his Warwick model.

  • @ProkreatedThrash According to the latest Bass Player Magazine, April 2010. "His fretless Warwick Thumb 6 string is front and center, and he's using Warwick's high-end Hellborg Amplification system"

  • 1:47 - 2:16 sounds like Mastodon, don't know which song but one of the last two on Leviathan...

Obscura are awesome, yeah their sound is definitely a mash up of other bands (mainly Death), but it's a mash up of AWESOME bands, hence it is awesome. Maybe not really original, but technical, melodic, effective and good to the ears, almost everything I could ask for.

  • Warwick amps.

  • Its not the amp, he es using a freetless bass thats why it sound like that

  • The general riff between 1:17 and 1:43 really reminds me a lot of 4:35-4:55 of Megadeth's Ashes in your Mouth...anybody else think so?

nevertheless, this song kicks too much ass :D

  • There's really no instrumental I've seen that can beat Voice of the Soul, but this is very good.

  • hell yeah dude! best instrumental ever.

  • I agree. Although it's a different subgenre, Coroner's Nosferatu is another awesome instrumental, probably better than this one. But nothing will come close to Death's Voice of the Soul, it's perfect.
