You know? Maybe instead of stating things suck, maybe you should keep your opinions to yourself. Baragon rocks! If you don't like him, then don't bother making these kind of things. And if your the BIGGEST kaiju fan, then you should like Baragon.
bragon lame? dude, so what if it's red, plus, frankenstein doesnt have any cool abillities. i mean, you choose lightning powered animal eating man over firebreathing ground burrowing lizard monster?
Baragon can spit a ray of lightning. He was quick and agile. Baragon eventually succums to frankenstein's superior strength as Frankenstein lifts him up over his head and throws Baragon like a bean bag. Frankenstein may be dumb, but all he did was throw Baragon around.
What makes this movie work, first of all, is it's largely insane plotline..a LIVING Frankenstein monster who grows to crazy heights. Second, it has a very surreal and unique atmosphere enhanced by some excellent music. On all fronts, Toho went waa-yy out of their way to make a unique film, and aside from a few obvious FX slips (but not many) they have suceeded. This was a wonderfully eerie movie.
War of the Gargantuas? The sequel? I remember seeing both back in the day, did NOT know they were related. Althought you see the same scene in various japanese monster movies: army toy tanks, the ray weapon, ray laser hitting the monster of the week in the ass, monster fleeing through fake trees causing mayhem.
but yes, War Of The Gargantuas is the sequel to this movie.
The octopus dragging Frankenstein into the ocean was the original ending, and it also sets up a possible explanation of the creation of the Green Gargantua.
However, the ambiguous dialogue and lack of proof in both films leaves the relation between Frankie and the Gargantuas somewhat in the dark, but look no further to the Gargantuas to see Frankenstein's features. It's very obvious.
WERD! Although he dosen't suck, there is the general consensus that he was too "cute" for a monster. He was a fighter though..he gave Godzilla a bit of hell there, lol
Fangoria said in their GMK article that if he were "any cuter, he'd make a great housepet." There again, Fangoria says a lot of thngs.....
Well I thought Baragon was pretty cool. And he got more than just Godzilla and Frankenstein time.
His suit was used several times in the Ultraman TV series from 1966, most notably in episode 3, "Charge Forth, Science Patrol" where he was a creature called Neronga.
Neronga was an electrical creature that drained the power plants of their energy and became stronger.
While some may think he's a weak entry, his suit certainly went to create some other cool monsters too.
@DeviantSon13 cool i like the showa baragon i have the revoltech figure of him and i agree baragon didn't suck in gmk he's awsome to. i wish he appeared in final wars at least he was in gmk.
He "drowns" during the fight with Oodaku, but in actuality he is comatose, and his body repairs itself thru the absorption of plankton, and a limited supply of oxygen keeps his brain alive.
However, in the transition from Frankenstein to Gaira, the brain is damaged from lack of enough oxygen
as he can't breathe underwater, thus his brutal temperment.
He appears again, but in a lesser, more brutal and vicious state as Gaira.
The Octopus was orginally from Godzilla Vs King Kong so if you count Frankenstien Conquers The World part of the SHOWA (Godzilla Raids Again - Terror Of Mecha-Godzilla) series we can assume its that Octopus or the spawn of that Octopus.
I saw this movie when I was a kid on a show called "Creature Double Feature". The version I saw was obviously the American version because IIRC, the ending I saw happened where Frankenstein died in an earthquake while fighting Baragon.
What do you mean it makes no sense. Nazis steal Frankenstein's heart, deliver it to a Japanese scientist who installs it into a boy who grows into a giant. It makes perfect sense.
This is one of those movies you just run with..the surrealism is amazing. Anyone who has seen this late night probabaly woke up wondering if it was really a movie or a bad dream.
You just have to stay tuned to see what happens next! Either way it has a strange attraction as a movie, and it's a truly original take on the Frankenstein monster, and another reason why all things wild, weird, and wonderful come from one place-Japan. Ippon, Ichi-ban! :)
Originally it was supposed to be Franky fighting Godzilla but the fact of Godzilla losing to an Asian Frankenstein made them decide to instead use Baragon and the Octopus!
@Rojum55 Actully no Baragon was in from the start the octupus was added in saince the american distributer was impressed with the octopus kong fight scene but after the filming changed his mind and didn't want it anymore.

Take a look at Sanda, the brown gargantua, and you can easily see the human-like features of what appears to be a shaggy Frankenstein monster.
The notion is is that pieces of Frankenstein's flesh that were ripped
off during his battles in the first movie grew into the Gargantuas, each developed according to the enviroment they were in when they began to grow.
FCTW and WOTG have surrreal dream like qualities..almost like a bad nightmare, and they are highly underrated movies.
Shawnster65 2 years ago
Hi Mofrakker-sorry for the late reply,
but yes, War Of The Gargantuas is the sequel to this movie.

I thought Frankenstein
became the Green gargantua:
He "drowns" during the fight with Oodaku, but in actuality he is comatose, and his body repairs itself thru the absorption of plankton, and a limited supply of oxygen keeps his brain alive.
However, in the transition from Frankenstein to Gaira, the brain is damaged from lack of enough oxygen
