  • Neil Young is great singing Gone to Shiloh, with Elton and Leon Russell (on their new album The Union)

  • if i wanted to be anyone other than myself it would be niel

  • When Josh Grogan stated that Neil Young is when of the greatest humans on this earth, I couldn't agree with him more.

  • why cant we find the video of the performances anywhere??amazing..you cant avoid no talents swift and cyrus, who are constanly shoved down our throats, and we cant find these performances

  • Elton you are screwing with some good music.

Nash you are as funny as a heart attack.

    GRAHAM NASH ON NEIL YOUNG:

(and Nash fans just have some humor)

"The thing that resonates with fans is the reality of it. It's really real. He really means every single beat and every single note. He's as serious as a heart attack about his music and I love him for that."

Gosh Grobin? a fan for your whole life and you decide to do Harvest Moon? - you are the anti-thesis of Neil's music.

  • @11xzxzxz Aw, cheer up!

  • @RainbowLegs88 First I am not as serious as a heart-attack and just having fun mocking .. especially Nash. What he says is unintentionally funny. Also, what is that Neil Young song you have on your site? I don't like it but I wanted to know.

  • @11xzxzxz "Slip Away," and it is really a good song.

  • the "new youtube" sucks the videos keep breaking up

  • Comment removed

  • Neils on here 2:18 , uptil then its looser musicians, except short interviews with CSN. Beware of disgusting person Josh groban !!!!!

    - keep on rockin rusties !

  • I love u NEIL !

  • is good to see red hot chili peppers live again, even if john is not there anymore

  • NEIL YOUNG = Number one of ever!Kisses from Italy.

  • what is a tittle of the first song? (by Elton John.)

  • i think it was Helpless

  • @Finnsech Helpless

  • thx, I haven't seen previous message. :P

  • @Finnsech Yes its helpless from " The Last Waltz "

  • too much negativity for a great man.

  • I am Beatles CSN & Y and Neil Young fan for ever since the 60's

  • A lot of times I can enjoy songs with inane lyrics. It's just when one takes on Neil Young or a highly intellectual musician as Neil; it just seems as if L.S. could have worked a little harder on the lyrics. Wilco works hard and so should more southern bands if they don't want to help erase the stereotype that northerners have of southerns. The worst music today is: RAP, Hip Hop, and Country. The best is Indie & alternative rock. imo.

  • @11xzxzxz

I'm a huge Allman Bros. fan, they are the real deal from the south. Great guitar playing and musicianship. They blow LS out of the water. Never liked LS...way overated.

  • @Powderfinger07 Yeah the Allman Brothers were a lot better. Duane played on Boz Scaggs Loan me A DIme and I was blown away (like a hurricane)

  • @Powderfinger07 Also, Chris Whitley's died a while back but as for a Southern Soul is one of the best. Listen to some Big Sky Country.

No one knew him but he was talented.

(And he meant every note of every beat like a heart-attack.). But all in all southern rock has too much country in it. imfo (in my fucked-up opinion)

  • I don't get a Man needs a Man. He's entitled to write it and I'm sure the feminists probably don't understand it but then it's not clear what Neil was saying .. not a great song and questionable lyrics. Neil should be clearer when treading on such ground. On the other hand women were much nicer before Feminism. The good old days when Husbands were master and women his slave. Just like the good ole days in the Bible. Can there be a less moral book than the Bible? I don't think so.

  • @11xzxzxz

Yeah he just sounds like he was a little down probably was because of his back, needed a maid and watched a movie where he fell in love with actress(Carrie Snodgrass). Seems to make sense to me...ha

  • @Powderfinger07 And Van Morrison is another artist who feels he doesn't have to explain and in Van's case he is just a bastard to those who loved him. its really real he really means and i love to see him have a heart-ache . really real.

  • @Powderfinger07 See I was thinking the maid had to be movie star. Neil was maybe being too honest that he just liked being looked after .. and hey isn't that what women are all about in marriage or used to me. Wilco's live version of Impossible Germany is great ... not the record version. Maybe something like that happens once in a blue sky blue moon country. Hallelujah

  • Mr elton john .. your version sucks.

Josh - Harvest Moon..t's OK... do something better from Harvest Moon. Harvest Moon is a little sappy. James Taylor - stop smiling and laughin' when you sing you best initial songs of the seventies with sadness. IT's not cool, it's not real, and it's inappropriate to screw up your best songs. Rainy Day Man was a great tune - wonder how you will fuck it up.

OK I'll get a shower and cool off. ha.

Its really real .. and I love him for that.

  • NEIL .. THE BEST IN THE WORLD!!!!

  • Mellencamp ruined Down by the River in the clip I watched. Dave Mathews should have done that one since he does a great version already.

  • @Powderfinger07 .. what happened to stevie? Drugs? NEIL AT LEAST STAYS ON THE dark ragged roads and is true to himself .. Like Paul Westerberg of the Replacements.

  • @11xzxzxz Yeah too much coke is what I gathered from 'Shakey'. Probably a better commercial song writer than Neil back in the day.

  • @Powderfinger07 Talking about Stevie?

he's really real he means every single note during his heart attack...

  • @11xzxzxz

Yeah, Graham is my least favorite of the 3. Whoever covered Only Love Can Break Your Heart did a good job, other than that I don't feel a need to watch this tribute.

  • @Powderfinger07 I listen to some of Ragged Glory and just think it's OK at best .. like a water-down Zuma. Man needs a Maid: I was thinking that

    maybe I'd get a maid

    Find a place nearby

    for her to stay.

    Just someone

    to keep my house clean,

Fix my meals and go away.

    A maid. A man needs a maid.

    A maid.

Music is good but it diminishes Carrie. Maybe that was not his intent but Neil knew he's get criticism and I've never heard him adequately explain the song.

  • You have got to remember that the Chilli Peppers were still amazing before John came to replace Slovak. I think that it will be hard to step into Frusciante shoes, but I believe that they will still make good music.

  • basically if you don't get or understand neil maybe even only like harvest.. it's your loss.. now i'm going to say he is the greatest guitarist ever!.. yep i said it.. not many men like him do 50 years of work without fizzlin out.. he's stronger than ever

it's like what nash said.. he's serious as a heart attack.. one real dude!

  • @dogmunch - Neil isn't even close to being the greatest guitarist ever. When it comes to playing the guitar Neil isn't even a pimple on Hendrix's ass! That's just one example of a better guitarist and their are others!

  • StinkyHombre - And I can play guitar better than Dylan. But Neil is all about the songwriting yet on Everyone Knows this is Nowhere he shows what he can do and on Powderfinger and on the perfect acoustic playing of Old Man. Yeah there is too much hype on this site - Neil is a serious as a heart attack and he means every note ... makes me laugh. But what is not a laughing matter is he did great songs that are not heard by most and should have been more popular at one time. The end..

  • So I agree with you some but when you start comparing Neil to Angus Young you are skipping stones over some of the essential Neil.

Do you Like The Loner? I've been waiting for you (not Live by on record) Powderfinger? Old Man? "needle .." Expecting to Fly, Mr Soul, On the Way Home, I am a child, and the record ZUMA is great as is Time Fades Away.

  • @11xzxzxz

Dude, Ragged Glory kicks ass...1990. Some serious guitar playing on that album. One of my favs. Harvest Moon, great acoustic album 1992...a little too commercial for me but 'You and Me' stands out as a great haunting track. I love Broken Arrow (the album) also 1996, 'Big Time'...great tune. Greendale...love it...Siver & Gold great acoustic album. Dead Man soundtrack...awesome! Of course he's stays below the radar, you have to be somewhat of an independent thinker to get Neil.

  • Which in America are few and far between.

  • @Powderfinger07 But nobody has the niche of sensitivity and insight and perceptiveness that Neil had .. maybe still has. AND GRAHAM NASH YOU SUCK. DAVE CROSBY TOO. - AND NEIL MEANS EVERY BEAT IN EVERY NOTE AND EVERY - THE BS IS DROOLIN' SO FAST OUT OF NASH'S MOUTH - JUST SHUT UP AND BE THANKFUL CROSBY AND STILLS LIKED YOU ENOUGH AND YOUR WIMPY BALLADS. ..STEVE HAD TALENT BUT HE "LOST IT, WASTED IT, ON THE WAY". ever heard Rock and roll woman or Hung upside down

  • @Powderfinger07 Yeah I was forgetting Harvest Moon - some great songs - Dreamin' Man and Old King and Hanks to Hendrix. I don't like Greendale or Silver and Gold and Are you Romantic? is not good, imo. If I can confess I am annoyed by most of Dave Mathews and was surprised he likes Neil ..

Also Neil did Conan O'Briens last show and he did the mediocre "long may you run".

Hate that cause he's got a lot better selection to choose from then that ...

  • @11xzxzxz

Yeah Dave's version of DBTR with Tim Reynolds is worth checking out. It's got a haunting slide arrangement. Are you Passionate, I like that too. I'm suprised you don't like Ragged Glory it's usually a favorite of most Neil fans. He did that tune for Conan for obvious reasons and his voice sounded strained but he is 65 and has had brain surgery recently. I think anyone wanting to learn guitar should start with Neil songs, like Jack Black did, like he says they're simple but really cool

  • @Powderfinger07 Yeah DBTR is great. What was a good song from Are you Passionate?. maybe it's on YOutube. I can be wrong. What is the best on Ragged Glory? Yeah I learned my first songs from Neil .. better than the Beatles to cut your teeth on.

    GRAHAM FUCK YOU AGAIN -

Its really real he means every single beat of every note and he's serious as a heart-attack about it. Graham just put you midas ass in reverse and get off the stage, mr bs artist.

  • @11xzxzxz I'd say Love and Only Love and Whiteline are my 2 favs off of Ragged Glory. Fuckin' Up is good. Dissapointment is a song I like and the title track from AYP. It's a completely different style though.

  • @Powderfinger07 (OK, I guess it was a song for Conan's going away party). Also Ragged Glory I just listened to a few songs and don't think its so good - but I didn't give it a try. Was tired of being disappointed by Neil. Also Neil is not a great human being ... he treated lots of people badly up until his aneurysm. He never sees Carrie's son though I guess he was fucked up over his genes.. Fucker Jack N almost killed Carrie when he beat her up.

  • @11xzxzxz

I also like Mirror Ball, particularly the Scenery. Whiteline, Fuckin' up, Farmer John, Love and Only Love, Love to Burn are all great tracks off Ragged Glory....of course that's my opinion, if ya don't like it there is always AC/DC, LOL @ Stinky

  • don't make me laugh!

  • @dogmunch - Neil fizzled out 20 years ago in 89, I believe that was the last time one of his songs actually hit the charts. I'm waiting for him to write a love song for Obama. His little Australian cousin Angus Young is a much, much better guitar player!

  • StinkingHombre So we agree pretty much on when Neil became a lot less good or great but you seem to not realize how Special Neil is or was.. No one who can write like Neil. Maybe the Replacements, sometimes Graham Parker, Sometimes Early Elvis Costello. And Lionel was for his son. You can criticize but you are having fun slamming Neil on things where you only view part of the picture.

  • Stinky - Which CD by Neil do you like?? What are you favorite and may I can diagnosis a cure ..kidding, no really you are entitled to not like Neil and you know better than most that Neil stopped making great songs more than 20 years ago.

Also Neil is often voted as one of the best guitars in the world though he is not Hendrix (but he moves me more than Lay Down Stupid Clapton.

  • Neil Young rocks. Always has and always will

  • @StinkingHombre

What the fuck does that matter? Is that how you measure good music? I know it's hard for you to grasp but there are people in this world who prefer substance over style. Fox News Channel is popular and has good ratings, does that make it better than npr?

  • @Powderfinger07 - You bet FOX is better then NPR! FOX is a private sector media organization that spews right wing rhetoric at their own expense! NPR on the other hand takes everyone's tax dollars and spews out liberal propaganda without any concern for economic solvency. In case you haven't noticed, Neil isn't able to sell records anymore, maybe he can get a grant from the government to keep him in the lime light sort of like NPR.

  • @StinkingHombre

Maybe you should do a little research on Neil. He doesn't care about profits from record sales. And while you're at it check out npr for fair and balanced reporting, ya know since you're paying for it and all. I've never heard liberal propaganda on npr, so please enlighten me. I don't think Neil affiliates himself with any political labels like "liberal", if you're talking about his anti Iraq war stance, I believe that has proven to be the worst military blunder in US history.

  • @StinkingHombre, I still buy neil's new records. Actually, incase you haven't noticed, lots of people still buy neil young records, thats why hes still a household name. And you really should do some research chief. Neils been purposely avoiding the 'lime light' his enitre 50 yr long career.... why would he need that government grant?

  • @thepinkzeppelin - When was the last time one of Neil's songs made the charts? Neil isn't avoiding anything, he's out of the limelight because his music is dated just like he is. Lots of Libtards are stuck in the sixties and that's by and large who makes up Neil's audience these days. You're right, Neil doesn't need government grants, he's a limousine liberal! All that railing against capitalism but you can bet your ass old Neil never refused a check from the record company!

  • hmm old Neil's actually done more than just refuse a check from the record company. Neil thought he was getting paid too much by Geffen Records for his albums ($1,000,000 each record), so he decided to amend the contract to $500,000 each album and further reimbursed Geffen Records with $1,000,000 for his 2 previous records under the old contract.... greedy old Neil.

  • that is because he changed his marketing from greedy hippie to good hippie as his fan base shrank as he aged. My guess is he didnt even think hed live so long with all the drugs and brain damage in him. So, he still puts on his anti america rant now and then to keep his old druggies happy lol~

  • @compassionrepublican

Greedy hippie? He's an artist, he puts out his own art that people buy...that's his profession..he has never sold out to commercialism or compromised his integrity. He's never been anti america. He loves America he was against American's government horrible foreign policy decisions...he was a Reagan supporter and supported the Afgan war against the taliban...even wrote a song about todd beamers heroic actions on 9/11. once again you are dead wrong about him.

  • shit, your an idiot.

  • StinkingHombre It makes no difference as he is not a commercial artist and could care less. But he has sold over 80 billion albums and most commercial artists can't achieve that.

  • @11xzxzxz -Nobody can sell 80 billion records, don't be ridiculous!

  • StinkingHombre - Sure, my bad. I meant 80 millions. Thanks.

  • @11xzxzxz - Not a "commercial artist?" Are you nuts? Neil is as much of a capitalist as it gets! Doesn't Neil own controlling interest in a major American company? Lionel Model Trains? Yea, keep bitching about Budweiser and Pepsi but don't mention Lionel...hypocrite!

  • he owns that shit cos he grew up with toy trains and has a passion for them so it would be a shame to see that company go under.. plus not forgetting what he did with his son ben who has cerebal palsy helped create a devce so ben could take the helm.. that says it all for me.. the guy is tech!

  • doesnt matter at all.. look at the charts.. pop stars... boybands, x factor.. real artists do not need charts! it's not made for them.. it's made for dumb people who like listen to the shit everybody else likes.

Think for yourself and be in to what your in to.. find your own wagon and be happy

  • Comp Cont Many atheists feel that it is simply a human weakness to want to believe in gods. Certainly in many primitive human societies, religion allows people to deal with phenomena that they do not adequately understand. Yes religion gives comfort but at what cost? Watching while the Nazi's kill the Jews. For the past 600 years so many advances in science or logic is questioned or attempted to be subdued by the Catholic Church.

  • Comp/Cont The fossil record through radiocarbon dating tells the real story. You won't ever find mankind in the same rock strata as dinosaurs. Radiocarbon dating show the oldest rocks on earth to be 3.9 billion years old and shows the earth is 4.55 billion years old. I guess god waited 4 billion years before one-celled creatures finally started to develop into more intelligent creatures. Intelligent Design can only criticize Evolutionary theory

  • Comp/cont Word on Evolution: those who think the theory of evolution is a "theory" are wrong as every creditable scientist knows evolution is a fact. A theory is a hypothesis that has been tested and after some time if it is proved valid and no other competing theory has evolved, then a theory becomes fact. Did god spend millions of years planting fossils (or did he do that on the 8th day) that show one-celled amoebas ruled the world for millions of year.

  • Comp/cont Haiti, etc... so he has killed billions. ? With Charles Manson you die quickly but with Jesus you slowly burn in hell for an eternity. Why does the bible say kids who talk back to parents should be stoned to death or if you work on the Sabbath .. stoned to death.. Christians The Bible is horrible stuff, very creepy, murky morality and bad dogma (dogma backwards is "am god" - how ironic) .

  • Comp/cont The most moral countries are the most secular. Secular societies thrive while the most religious are the most criminal and immoral (well according to Newsweek and many studies). There is an inverse correlation between education (and IQ) and belief in god and religion. If god is omnipotent then he is malevolent. God killed nearly 1 million people (through the armies of Israel) in the old testament and gave us cancer, tsunamis, mental illness, mosquitoes, earthquakes in

  • Comp??? Cont The more science and logic prevail, the more Agnostics and Atheists will prevail too. 10 years ago the US had about 9% non-believers and the number has risen (unlike jesus who will never rise - hey prior to this I made a joke about Atheists so don't get mad and besides you can feel I will now be spending an eternity in hell if that makes you feel good) and now non-believers are about 15% of the US population.

  • Comp??? cont The old testament barely mentions heaven and hell but the Christians struck gold when Paul or whoever made heaven and hell the major tenets.

And then we come across another of teachings on morality: if a man discovers on his wedding night that his bride is not a virgin, he must stone her to death on her father doorstep (Deuteronomy 22:13-21). [2]

  • Comp????? cont. I just don't get it: When a hundred people are killed in a plane crash and one survives the one may say "thank god .. he was looking after me". What a slap in the face to the other 99 (and their families) who were killed. Oh, I guess it was just their time. God decides everything. What if the one survivor of the crash turned out to be a murderer? Oh I guess god works in mysterious ways. What if a plane carrying 100 people crashed in 1931 and the only survivor was Hitler?

  • Comp???Cont/ In the New Testament Jesus supports slavery, is anti-family (didn't see Mary for 20 year and wanted to pit family against family, brother against brother) and he knows less about germ theory and science than a typical 7 years old. And Jesus' greatest sin: Condemning moral people who don't believe in him to eternal hell. This is found in the New Testament three times. Believe me, I haven't even gone into the real horrors and murky moral and bad dogma of the "good book"

  • Comp/Cont . But isn't that what god did with the world? Couldn't god could have made all carnivores into herbivores?

If the Bible was kept away from all children until they reached adulthood and then they read the Bible, most would reject the Bible outright. Religion is very comforting - but if not for the promise of heaven or fear of hell, there would be very few religious people.

  • Compa/Cont Atheists tend to be more educated and intelligent... and 94% of the creme de la creme scientist who belong to the National Academy of Science are Agnostics or Atheists put it down in writing that they did not believe in god. One scientist said that if god were 100% malevolent, and 50% effective, then there may be such as god .. If a zoo decided to thrown all of the animals into a lions den, then the predators would massacre the prey. PETA would be going nuts.

  • Comp/Cont If anyone can find me a good study were Atheists, Agnostics or Secular Humanists are less moral than believers, let me know. I have yet to find one study and yet 52% of the electorate will not vote for an Atheist as US president. Only 37% would not vote for Muslims and this study was done after 9/11. Here are some crime stats: 75% of the prisoners in US jails are thought to be believers and only .02% identify themselves as Agnostics or Atheists

  • Compass/Cont - This has nothing to do with god except if there was a god and he just naturally endowed man and primates with "good genes" .. and other mammals display "good genes". Man definitely evolved from ancestor. All scientific polls or studies (mostly suppressed - just try to find some on the web, anyway) show how that non-believers are as moral, if not more moral, than believers (the most recent large study showed Atheists are more moral but that is just one study).

  • Compas/ Cont ..so many have starved themselves to death rather than watch another monkey in pain. Heck a lot of humans might not do this. One study showed monkeys do the most moral thing when simulation of a railroad ride on a death train is "performed". When monkeys' only choice is to veer left to kill one human or right to kill 5 humans on the tracks .. they almost always choose to veer left and do the least damage. So even an animal can be moral w/o knowing Jesus or god.

  • Compass- And if animals are moral in terms of cooperation or feeling others' pain and it doesn't come from their knowledge of god or respecting or fearing god then this is an essential point. The animal world: The pleasure of doing good is shown in monkey studies; we presume monkeys don't believe in god or a higher authority. When monkeys do see other monkeys in cages getting painful shocks when they touch a bar that gives them food, Cont..

  • I don't think most believers R normally thinking about rewards of Christianity and Islam either. Most people don't seem to understand that it is better and more moral to do good for mankind, animals or yourself without expectation of heaven or avoidance of hell. If a believer does good how do we know if it is not just not increase chances of getting into heaven ?Many studies show most primates are moral and they may not have the ability to appreciate god at all or in the sense that mankind does

  • Compass - These good genes are naturally endowed and increase greatly with mammals. Non-believers raised by a caring families just feel good from doing a good act or cooperation with others or not liking to see others in pain because that is how they evolve - just as most believers. There is no anticipation of a huge reward as believers often think they have waiting. Of course many believers do good out of the same motivations as non-believers ..

  • Compassionate Where does morality come from? "If we believe absurdities, we shall commit atrocities." [Voltaire] Very few people realize that Atheist's good deeds are inherently more moral than fanatical Christians, or perhaps all Christians, when performing the same good deeds because there is no heavenly reward or punishment awaiting Atheists 4 their good acts. Motivation is essential to deeming good works "good" or not. Believers & non-believers alike can inherit good genes their parents.

  • NEIL LEGEND!!!

  • You are all stupid. The Needle and the Damage Done and Tonight's the Night are about Neil's close friends dying from Oding on heroin. And of course Neil is liberal, go listen to Living With War.

  • just looking at niel young you can tell he has done tons of drugs. Of course he lost many people who hang out shooting up as THAT IS WHY DRUGS ARE SO BAD. duh...liberals are a hoot. Yall dont even know your ruining your brain...for life...and thats if you do live like young, you end up a zombie

  • @compassionrepublican

Unfortunately I've seen your picture....what's your excuse? Inbred?

  • booze cigarettes, fast food, processed meat, presevatives, they'll kill you too. it's all about moderation in life with everything. neil never touch heroin he never had an interest in it as he had very close friends live and die with it

  • HAHAHA, you're funny.

  • you got it all wrong. its ignorant religious nut balls like you who scare the world. Your ignorance hurts the earth.

  • actually you are wrong. Young promotes drug use, and is a hippie. His song sountern man is a hippie rage against the south, and this is from a canadian.

He is also known to play with convicted drug addicts. Drugs are what has destroyed so many lives, and you have the gall to tell me i hurt the earth??

  • nothing wrong with a plant!

there's alot wrong with cigarettes and alcohol. it's legal but kills more people that most drugs.. not saying that drugs are good for you.. plus he was singing about the ol' south not the good ol' south but the racist , stuck in their way south.. you need to understand the world more.. and it's ins n outs

  • all the drugs? do some research dumbfuck!

  • sorry , i dont DO drugs, and folks like you who experiment with pot and mdma etc are the ones that lose thier brain cells. FACT...and i think it shows from you inability to post a comment without cussing

  • @compassionrepublican Compassion and republican don't go together bub...looks like you're the one who has lost brain cells. Go troll somewhere else loser. Don't you have some tea-bagging to tend to?

  • im not trolling. The reason you are so angry is that you know the lifestyle promoted by the drug culture, of which he is a leader, is DESTRUCTIVE TO HUMANITY. Because you know im right you get mad. God didnt create you to destroy yourself. That is what you have to come to terms with. Seems so simple, but you are drawn to destruction by a evil i happen to understand and with Jesus, we can WIN the battle. Yes, you think its silly, but its the truth.

  • @compassionrepublican yeah, you are trolling, you are making statements about a man you know nothing about. He is a great HUMANITARIAN...that is the truth, that is why he is well respected and being honored. You are a very shallow individual, please get some help.

  • you dont know me or my life so dont act smart. FWIW, i know a family whos son died of drugs abuse. His favorite music was grateful dead and neil young, both of which are KNOWN to be about drugs and being liberal and anarchistic. Im afraid its you who know nothing about your hero rock star...

  • @compassionrepublican

You're judging Neil Young because a family friend died from drugs who listened to Neil's music? OMG! you have to be the most shallow person on youtube. Neil is anti-drug abuse, that's why he wrote songs about it, you pathetic ignorant piece of crap. He holds benefit concerts for special needs kids every year, he's one of the few really good people left on this planet. You and your ilk really need to do humanity a favor and kill yourself!

  • Compassionaterepublican. I am of some other viewpoint and not liberal or conservative - first and foremost I am not an ideologue. Neil is one of the most dedicated activitists in the world and preaches in songs and in other medias against DRUGS. You are correct that he did drugs for many years while he was working against them and sure even when he wrote "Needle and the Damage Done" Also, The Grateful Dead (besides sucking) do encourage drug use to their audience.

  • compassionrepublican Neil and the Dead were miles apart in that way. I know that Neil condemned the Dead and Garcia before he died for drug use. When on stage with the Dead Neil has been known to push Garcia aside. So don't look at everything in Black and White ( what is the color when black is burned?) Neil is a great humanitarian but he used to be difficult to deal with. He has grown up and realizes that being irritable is not good for a humanitarian. Most things are not clear cut.

  • you dont see me cussing.. i dont have the need to.. i think we can all have our own opinion and debate about it..

  • that is a good point. However, i have been around a few "rock and roll" folks, and all of them cuss regularly even if they dont know you well. Its seems its part of being cool in thier code of behavior. Its nice to know you dont have a foul mouth. IMHO, it doesnt add to anything is in the end, you are expressing hate and not even aware of it and that is why its so insidious, especailly to young folks. Thats also why im against it in music and on cable which now they mostly got rid of.

  • see people can be civilised.. i'm backing neil a lot because he has no need to

knock other peoples religions and beliefs.. he just wants to live on this earth,

respect it and all the living things inside it including us. it doesnt matter if

he has or does drugs.. we all do some sort of drug or have some sort of addiction

  • how does it glorify God sitting on a lotus petal your whole life and day dreaming that your superior. Thats all hes really accomplished because he flies the banner of humanism

  • thats your belief.

so.. you can fly the banner of god and you think no one else is worthy unless they glorify god.. hmmm

i'm pretty sure the guy don't day dream.. he's accomplished a lot of good over his life for other people which I think is way more important.

  • @compassionrepublican

where did that come from?...he glorifies what needs to be glorified...Mother Earth...and all living things, he doesn't go through his day to day life hating and judging like some religious piece of garbage would. Why do you continue to rail against a man who has had such a positive impact on so many people's lives.

There is still time for you to change and become a person of substance, but I won't hold my breath, I know years of brainwashing is hard to overcome.

  • why do liberals always have a " my way or the highway " attitude? I just stated who I saw they facts OBJECTIVELY not being in a cloud of fan worship. I guess objective analysis is not ok for rock stars ;-/

  • @compassionrepublican

Why do you feel a need to label people with a political adjective, like "liberal"? How can you make that judgement about someone? That is what's wrong with this country, ideologues like yourself want to divide everybody up into groups and then wage war on the otherside. You came on here making negative statements about a man you know nothing about. You've demonized him over and over again in your posts. I don't think you understand objectivity...how could you?

  • the only worthy person of a Grammy this year. we love you, Neil!!

  • WE LOVE YOU NEIL! SOO MUCH< SO MUCH!

  • Music Cares is a great originazation backed by the Grammy's. Delaney Bramlett was a big backer of this org.

  • StinkingHombre shouldn't you be tea bagging or watching the latest Beck/Limbaugh/Hannity conspiricay? Trolling for someone to teabag I can only assume is your reason for being anywhere Neil Young is mentioned.

  • I love Neil's music but the left wing political thing is a turn-off.

  • @StinkingHombre You obviously don't know anything about Neil Young.

  • @BorrowedTune72 - I know enough about him to realize that Ronnie Van Zandt (God rest his soul) put the finger right on him, he's a whinny little liberal dick. Yea, he wrote a few good songs 35+ years ago but lately he's sucking wind and the only reason he's getting this award is his political views!

  • @StinkingHombre Too funny. I have no desire for a "Sweet Home Alabama" debate (that has been going on forever). All you need to know is the "feud" is a myth. Van Zant regularly wore NY t-shirts on stage to f*ck with people like you.

Neil got this award for philanthropic work with Farm Aid and the Bridge School... two decidedly non-partisan organizations.

It also might surprise you to learn Neil was a huge supporter of Reagan in the '80s. His politics are as ambiguous as his lyrics.

  • I could care less if Niel was right or left because I don't base my musical tastes or movie decisions on politics. I happen to know that Tobi Kieth is right leaning and so is Jon Voight but I will still buy cds and watch movies with these guys in them because the're fucking great at what they do and that's all that matters. Only a total douchebag would take shit to that extreme.

  • @BorrowedTune72 - I know they respect each others musical talents but they where both definitely making political statements. Actually, Skynyrd was reacting to Neil's constant political whines expressed in his music. I know they didn't hate each other but they where definitely on opposite ends of the political spectrum. The new Skynyrd goes on Conservative radio talk shows and writes pro conservative songs. If Neil wasn't a liberal icon his would have been long forgotten!

  • @StinkingHombre So let me know unless you really don't know a lot of Neil song. But don't ever compare Angus .. his older brother was in the EasyBeats and did Friday on my mind which is a better songs than any Heavy Metal song. Heavy metal - I don't know a great song that has come from that wretched genre. I mean some is listenable and OK but none of it reaches greatness except Once Deep Purple or Ozzy for one song ...

  • @BorrowedTune72 - Just thinking about your statement that Van Zandt regularly wore Neil Young T-shirts and one thing comes to mind. After viewing thousands of pictures and films of Van Zandt with Lynyrd Skynyrd I still haven't seen one example of this. I must have seen 10,000 photos of Ronnie Van Zandt and I never saw him wearing a Neil Young T-shirt not even once! I think this is a liberal tall tail.

  • StinkingHombre. I obviously meant "commercial" in the sense that Neil will make record after record and not aim for mass appeal. If you take everything literally, then good luck with the BIBLE. Usually it's the record companies that fire him for not making "listenable music". Also, I love Neil from '66 to '79 and esp with Buffalo Springfield and Crazy Horse. So after 89 he has hardly made any music I like.

  • SinkyHombre - After '79 he's done maybe 6 songs I like. Before "79 he recorded 80some records and believe Ohio or the crap on this site are not what I consider good Neil Young. It is essential that you have to be of some depth and sensitivity to like Neil. I am not saying you aren't smart but if you really would but Angus Young in a sentence with NEIL YOUNG you are obviously missing something??

One important poll had Neil ranked second after Bob Dylan for Best Singer Songwriters.

  • errrr" street survivors"!???

  • @dogmunch - way superior musically to anything that funky old hippie ever did!

  • @BorrowedTune72 Neil and Van Zant go along fine and he wrote Powderfinger for them.

Pesonally I hate Skynyrd .. not one good song. Oh that smell .. Neil's Southern Man was not that good of a song but Sweet home Alabama is boring after a couple of listens and he hardly defends the south ... Watergate does not bother ME? Southern man doesn't need him (Neil) around anyhow? I will tell you I am not liberal or conservative (I am not an ideologue) but com'on Skynyrd and write better lyrics.

  • Neil Young is such an inspiration. I aspire to create music of such quality. He's a really gem in this world, and I'm so happy to see him honored in such a way!

  • Because that kind of truth doesn't sell albums.

  • i wonder what he thinks about the NWO (new world order). i wished artists on his level would come out more and talk about the takeover of the western world by international bankers (who even supported hitler and stalin) and who are the cause of so much misery in the past and in the present. these secrete societies should be exposed more and more especially these days since their agenda is being pushed through full steam. WAKE UP!!!

  • @wdcsucks1 You might be onto something here. Something along the lines of the old SNL ex-presidents cartoon. Neil Young, Dylan and the ghost of Mama Cass as a crime fighting trio fighting against the combined forces of the Illuminati and the Stonecutters. Neil's super power, of course, would be shredding evil with monster tones out of Old Black.

  • Neil is the best! We love him!!!

  • @hanaturbo1 You are absolutely correct Neil is THE BEST

  • Thanks cg for sharing...

THanks Neil for keeping it real

  • old man take a look at my life, i'm a lot like you.

  • Neil, as depot manager of the Lionel train station on top of Sugar Mountain, I say thank you thank you thank you .........

  • Sorry for the cliche but: Long May You Run Neil! ~cg5

  • Watch my video, it will blows your mind away!

  • Neil's music has brought so much pleasure to my little family!

  • Ben Harper performing "Ohio" sounds pretty dope. The RHCP song is a very interesting choice, and I would enjoy seeing this entire concert in DVD.

  • Well, it's hard to believe So you get up to leave And you laugh at the door That you heard it all before Oh it's so good to know That it's all just a show for you. L.A. Uptight, city in the smog, city in the smog. Don't you wish that you could be here too?
  • Where was Lady Gaga? (Ha! Ha)

  • is there any more footage of ben?

  • awesome!

Neil Young deserved this! He is a man of honour!

I cant wait for the new album!

  • Needs releasing on BluRay and DVD !

  • we get stuck with that twit swift and rihanna bullshit on the grammys and no one replays this

  • Looks like one of those things that will show up on PBS someday. I do hope the whole thing comes out on DVD though.

"One of the greatest humans on the planet"...I never knew how much of a fan Josh Groban was. And why wasn't Pearl Jam there???

  • I'm hoping to see this soon. I was wondering where Pearl Jam was as well...

  • we want chili peppers, we want chili peppers!!! barney would say hahahah
