I didn't think this video was being objective with the race. How did they expect it to be fair when the guy repeatedly states he can't shift the semi auto correctly and gets them confused, its like putting a drive that drives auto in a manual and saying an automatic wins cause the manual driver couldn't shift the car correctly.
About connecting with the car, i get it but if a feature became to inconvenient no one would want it (i.e. hand cranking the engine to start it up).
This really only proves that Porsche's PDK is not as good on that particular track. There are many other videos that show just the opposite in different cars on different tracks. For example, the 370z and VW GTI are faster with automatics. Turbocharged cars seem to benefit more because you don't lose the boost as much while changing gears. Over time it is inevitable that DSG/PDK type transmissions will win all around once they are developed more.
Flappy paddle gearboxes are the worst thing to happen to road cars. They were developed for racing, where quick gear changes make all the difference. Unfortunately, incompetent fools want to emulate racing drivers when they drive to the post office, so they ruin a perfectly good driver's car with a flappy paddle gearbox. The satisfaction of rowing through the gears yourself makes up for the 0.4 seconds you lose in each gear change.
BS Test... The driver went in with some serious bias, and he doesn't know how to drive a PDK. This is one of the worst driving experiences tests I have ever seen. Does not even correctly conclude which one is faster.

I really don't care because it's really based on what you like and what your preferences are, I really like Twin clutch tranny because I can never be bothered to learn a manuel but Twin clutch tranny are really easy to use and easy to pick up on and you learn it instantly which is really nice.
@massdestruction97 easiest means most boring, and less control, stick shift is so much better, if your gonna get semi-automatics to feign being a good driver just get an automatic
@XxENovaxX Of course, it depends whether you have got used to it. Semi is not that widely distributed, but manages to combine both feel and facility. If you ask me, semi>manu>auto
tip-tronic/pdk/dsg is faster than a manual. But there is nothing like getting a car for the first couple times and getting a conection with it with a stick
automatics far outperform manuals now. dual sequentials are faster. and soon ferrari will have triple sequential. its a sad truth. i was very dissapointed when i had to accept this truth.
Dual clutch is faster without a doubt.. this guy doesn't know how to use it... still Manuel all the way for life. these days it's a question of do you want fun or speed. and i'm pretty sure heal and toe is harder than figuring out how to work a dual clutch system.
And it doesn't matter what speed these distractions occur as speed does not kill. It's only when you look away from the road you get killed.
I applaud those who CAN shift gears without looking away from the road for even a second! but don't let pride overcome you or you will pay the hard way. :)
@Luciferminusone Just a heads up: looking at the gearbox while driving makes you fail the driving exam in Croatia. In fact, looking at the gearbox is only a matter of a few driving lessons, a habit you tend to loose very fast. A good driver doesn't even think of the gear he's in. A good driver FEELS the car and changes gear accordingly to the engine.
Seems to me that manual transmissons would lead into front end collisions more due to having to be distracted by figuring out which gear you need to shift in.
The more distractions the more likely you will get wrecked and cars are complicated as it is.
@Luciferminusone if you really need to look away constantly to "figure out what gear you're in" then you really can't drive stick shift. Also, the ease of automatics would and does cause people to text \ talk and drive more, and as we all know that leads to way more accidents than split second "figuring out which gear you need to shift in."
@Luciferminusone regular manual is better because the driver is paying more attention to driving the car and gives you more control vs a automatic where for one requires less attention and you are at the whim of a computer which may not know what you are thinking. I had a auto trans am, my wife recked it because the auto transmission shifted at the wrong time while changing lanes on the interstate she's lucky to be alive. Manual that would not have happend
@v6greenfbird95 ok your comparing a single sequential 5 speed at best cheap american auto to a foreign tuned dual sequential six speed auto. if it really was a bad shift that caused your wife to wreck then you should be happy to see dual sequintials becoming more popular because that would have never happened
@Luciferminusone thats a terribly incorrect statement. i drove a manual for three years and text and drove just as much. shifting takes a split second of your attention and you sould never have to look to see the gear if you do then you shouldnt be driving a manual or automatic at all.
Stop Lights and stop signs is one of the reason why stopping and accelerating with an Automatic vehicle feels much less tiring. Traffic Also. Even professionals after years and years of driving still shut down their engine from poor timing.
@heartlessvietboy i drive a manual daily on one of the worst roads in florida, i4 in orlando its seccond nature. Safer because I have control over the car not hoping the computer changes to the appropriate gear.
the guy doesnt even know how too use semi auto. so honestly if any viewer bases

Once in a while you enjoy stick shift driving. But that's just choice. Doing what you have to do then going back to shifting then back to doing what youre doing somehow is quite cool. I've converted to automatic after using my own mind. Don't let people influence you.
launching from 0 is the hardest part but seriously, shifting from gear to gear is just pulling of pushing the lever. a lil kick on the clutch pedal at the same time and youre on a different gear. especially 1-2, 3-4 changes are very fast. it all becomes instinctive with a short period of driving.
some excuses to say manuals are not good make no sense. unless youre very weak or got no leg, operating the clutch pedal in traffic doesnt take much efforts. people who say that never experienced it.
@hamemax what he is trying to get at is that the buttons are counter intuitive where as the paddles arent. i had the same problem with my 135i. there is only one paddle and you push it to upshift and pull it to downshift. it just feels really weird.

the benefit manual that has great acceleration and great fuel economy, but if you do not pay a lot for gas like that I recommend buying a bike is the same rule of automatic driving, the only thing that changes is the style and hand movement and the extra foot. sorry i use google.
These guys are tools. Just because he can't operate the gearbox properly doesn't mean it isn't as fast/faster. It's a well known fact that DSG transmissions shift faster than any human can.
obvioulsy the dude was biased from the get-go, you could hear it in his voice. he didnt even give the buttons a chance. typical dude with a stick car thinking he's the shit.
i live in the city and there is a lot of traffic. so i can't be bothered with driving a manual. automatic for me. maybe if i lived in the country side i would enjoy a manual.
@rania3830 Thats what im trying to figure out many of these people might live in the country side where there is room, and space for manual but for a city person theres many stops, hills, and traffic. !and thats not easy
@roger767 very good point, this guys a horrible shifter lmfao. personally, i believe they're equivalent. though shift will always feel better no matter what:)
whel again , it depends where are you going to use the car ...if its a city with lots of traffic jams than manual will be frustrating so full automatic is better ... if its a race track or a vilage with open roads probably manual would be better
and for racing hmm if i was a pro i would like manual but since im not i would rather have semi automatic gear box (steptronic)

These guys are tools. Just because he can't operate the gearbox properly doesn't mean it isn't as fast/faster. It's a well known fact that DSG transmissions shift faster than any human can.

obvioulsy the dude was biased from the get-go, you could hear it in his voice. he didnt even give the buttons a chance. typical dude with a stick car thinking he's the shit.

i live in the city and there is a lot of traffic. so i can't be bothered with driving a manual. automatic for me. maybe if i lived in the country side i would enjoy a manual.
rania3830 1 year ago
@rania3830 Thats what im trying to figure out many of these people might live in the country side where there is room, and space for manual but for a city person theres many stops, hills, and traffic. !and thats not easy

manual is better then auto in every way.. except on rush hour traffic.. such a bitch to drive
brianrulesman 2 years ago
not a real test, its obvious the driver wasn't as well know with the buttons of the automatic vs the clutch.

@roger767 very good point, this guys a horrible shifter lmfao. personally, i believe they're equivalent. though shift will always feel better no matter what:)

Yes, thanks for the argumented opinions but let us please refrain from saying things that offend, especially if there is no reason to do so.
If not, as I said before, I'm forced to remove your entries, ok?
Thanks...

manual is betterrrr than anything else.. but then again.. i always mess up when i drive one
ahmedkibaba 2 years ago 3
whel again , it depends where are you going to use the car ...if its a city with lots of traffic jams than manual will be frustrating so full automatic is better ... if its a race track or a vilage with open roads probably manual would be better
and for racing hmm if i was a pro i would like manual but since im not i would rather have semi automatic gear box (steptronic)
