He's instituted price controls, which merely mean there are shortages and the development of an untaxed black market. His economic policies are disastrous.

Though a little searching has shown me that the oil industry was nationalized before Chavez took office, though he has made some significant changes. Production continued rising after nationalization and was already declining before he took office. Also, you can't blame the decline in production on his nationalization, perhaps production has just peaked.
But no question we need to get off oil. My bet is cold fusion. All these solar panels wind turbines are just for electricity. It doesn't do the magic oil can. Doesn't mean there isn't anything that can't.

I'm not naive in regards to economics but I just didn't know much about economics in Venezuela. Though a little searching has shown me that the oil industry was nationalized before Chavez took office, though he has made some significant changes. Production continued rising after nationalization and was already declining before he took office. Also, you can't blame the decline in production on his nationalization, perhaps production has just peaked.
