Triple-double combination in early part, NBC commentators totally misunderstood that. It's not conservative way and not clean way. Cuz Arakawa didn't see any other skater's perform before her turn.

Not only her but also most of Asian skaters used to focus just on their own perform. Which's very difficult mind to Western Competitive atheletes.

Yes she did a double loop; if Irina and Sasha would have skated cleanly, Shizuka would have missed the gold; but nevertheless, what a breathtaking skate, enough for her to bring to Japan the only Gold medal they won at these games, the most important one at that.

It's performances like this one that make me think the sport should be given a name witht the term "art" in it, as is the case in German (Eiskunstlaufen, Kunst = art), because this is the rare performance where it really is artistic skating in the most positive sense: Making all that difficult technique (perfectly executed jumps, top-notch spirals, back-breaking Ina Bauers) look SOOOOO easy. She was in a league of her own that night. Excellent!

thank heaven sasha fell twice.. i dont think she couldve beaten any other way.. only 5 triples and won the gold medal..she was slow here and kind of boring, elegant but kind sloopy spins and didnt express much on her face not like kwan or cohen.. if only michelle wasnt injured or sasha has skated clean...history wouldve been different

I agree with you, danishprincess82. I don't think that Indiatree has enough experience and knowledge of figure skating jumps and I think she should learn to keep her mouth shut and just admit that there are things she doesn't know. She should let the experienced judges decide for themselves. And she also does not know how to be a true critic.

Indiatree, I thought we have discussed it. There is no deduction in her part and it is not to your knowledge of the judging system. I have always thought that Arakawa did a flawless program and she deserved the gold medal. There will be a chance that other skaters will improve. And you are not experienced in the execution of the jump style to know the difference between the triple flip or the lutz. So please stay out of it.

She also won for the program component marks. The "lip" is a forgivable mistake, much more forgivable than a "flutz" which Sasha Cohen and Irina Slutskaya both have.
