Me and my half Filipina / full Filipina friends were forced into doing this dance in front of a bunch of English people who looked really bored and only woke up when I hurt my ankle. We were crap.
wow, that was amazing! it doesn't matter if likha or bayanihan performed this native dance and how simple or complex they did their routines as long as they'd reinterpreted this filipino dance by heart. i'm so proud of our heritage and talent. we're not only great singers but great dancers as well. foreigners have always praised filipinos for being one of the greatest performing artists in the world. mabuhay philippines!
Bayanihan is one of the front-runners of Philippine Dance probably in the world. They were the first to set an example for Philippine cultural dance troupes worldwide and perform cultural dance theatrically, never-before seen during that era. Artistic directors and teachers study from Bayanihan as a tool to broaden their range of dance and creativity. Bayanihan makes educational instructional videos for that purpose.
They help educate Pilipinos about the dying culture. No one can put a "patent" on cultural dance moves. Cultural dance moves are the way an instructor perceives them to be, which can create originality.
As for "complex Tinikling routines", they are not necessary. The farmers and Tikling birds were not performing formations changes while blindfolded. The new "modern Tinikling" is more for showboat, as many college PCNs do it for "bragging rights". I must say I was a victim as well. In retrospect it does not matter how complex a Tinikling routine is; a Philippine cultural dancer/instructor's job is to portray the dance as accurately as possible, as our descendants did in the fields.
this is so bayanihan... i hate it when dance companies and troupes copy from bayanihan. i mean there a lot of things you could actually do to make the tinikling more interesting to watch than having the bayanihan style
Bare basics are: Guitara, Laud, Bandurria, Octavina, double bass. More traditionally there's also the piccolo bandurria, mandola, and bajo de unas. Hope that helps.

Try typing "Leyte Dance Theatre" in You Tube search bar. They too have good tinikling. Enjoy

Great dancing, but someone seemed to have added his/her own guitar to the actual rondalla.

Nice dancers. Bad rondalla.
Saiaopinoi 4 years ago
From what it sounds like, the rondalla was poorly mic-ed. The guitar got all the feedback.

your sway balance is awsome!! so graceful!!
xoxMicahxox 4 years ago 2
their sway balance is really great. better than a lot of the ones ive seen other dance troupe members do in performing this dance.
AnMaPa 4 years ago 2
actually it was not a sway balance! it was an improvised KURADANG!!!! read the dance literature of the TINIKLING okay???
lovydabbi 4 years ago
The Kuradang part of the tinikling is here made with bigger steps to make up with the spacious stage. Maybe that why you said it was improvised
