  • Google docs is indeed a very valuable and convenient tool for teachers and students. Thanks for sharing this video!

  • Thatr's really cool!

  • sounds interesting for my use.

  • I don't like the concept of private corporations furnishing THEIR model to PUBLIC schools. Can't we learn from the Apple brainwashing from the 80's?

I just don't feel comfortable with Google everywhere collecting everything either. They're obviously building a BORG. Artificial intelligence is for zombies and cyborgs, not humans. What's next Google? An implanted router in the brain at birth?

  • @budwzr So, you'd prefer to use Microsoft Word...? I agree that they have a monopoly - and that big business so involved in education is not a good idea. However, what's your alternative?

  • @hewnandhammered What if Google gets in hot water later (like MS)? After becoming embedded in classrooms? Our students don't need to be in the middle of court battles. School districts shouldn't take everything offered free, just because it's free. Let's dismantle the teachers unions first, to free up more cash and vis-a-vis more options.

  • Statement at 1:18 about Alaska students having no idea what a subway was was a lie to hurt Palin. Gotta love Google: promising to do no evil, then happily helping Communist China censor information and track down dissidents. As soon as the PRC hacked Google, Google suddenly got noble. Google is pushing for gov regulation (so-called net neutrality) to collude w government coercive power in order to trump the market and consumer choice and smash competition.

  • @jkirk1626 I thought "net neutrality" was actually anti-regulatory - that is, a level playing field for all users?

  • @hewnandhammered Anti-regulatory initiatives don't require the FCC or any other administrative power imposing regulation.

  • Agree with both: JapaneseCurrancy & shaolindreams

  • I learned Google Docs from Jim Sill in the video. At first I used it just for video production, but now I use it for everything from writing English papers to notes with friends. I haven't used a word document since.

  • Interesting concept, might be integrated in my next line of work

  • I like google docs, but the only problem that is has is that it isn't a full fledged word processor like Pages or Word.

  • True. I'm a teacher, and I've been using it with some of my students. The biggest problem is that it doesn't have a grammar check on it.

I think that there are probably some limitations with HTML that doesn't allow it to function as a fully-fledged word processor, but I think that one day it will be there.

The advantages of using it in education are huge, though--as pointed out in this video.

  • @soulfulnotes Actually, you can highlight the word and right-click, which will give you spelling suggestions

  • @speedingperson It is now!

  • Google is the best Search Site! I LOVE GOOGLE <3

  • Oh, I see, you must be the Microsoft hired posters that go around to kill the concept of "cloud computing"...

  • This is fabulous! I am meeting with some teachers today concerning google docs and will show them this video first. Thanks for the great video!

  • For me, Google Docs is primarily useful for group assignments. Working on-line using Docs has saved me a

  • I've been using Google Docs for my homework.

  • These are high tech schools!

  • yeah

when i opened google docs at my school

teachers where scared that i was hacking XD

  • That's why I don't try to use my Ubuntu USB drive from school computers :-)

  • LOL

    i will try that

  • I've been using Google Docs since it was first released and now I use Google Docs exclusively. I haven't touch MS Office since. Google Docs is the future. I can access it anywhere. And the whole social collaboration on documents is the future.

  • I agree, its only a matter of time when docs becomes the norm. I still type my essays on Word but always upload them to Docs to edit and print from there. also to rest easy knowing i have access to it even when my mac is back at home.

  • The spreadsheet is too weak. Docs will be something once they get a powerful PIM online.

  • Wow. I'm starting to love Google more and more each day.

  • I use doc for taking notes so I can access them no matter what computer I use at the library or who's house I'm at.

  • Someday.... I hope this gets to my local school system....as it is now, they cant even get to a computer.

  • 72nd view

  • google docs wins ;)

  • woh wait a minute... she had a macintosh with xp on it LOL. Thats just messed up...any way I thought google pushed for Open Source like Linux and BSD. ahh well. still a good vid.

    GNU owns.

  • it isn't XP

  • you sure? it looks like a blue XP bar at the bottom at 0:35.

  • that would be a dock (an overused technology that makes absolutely no sense)

  • It does make sense. It' makes it easier to find your programs and documents.

  • Yeah... I don't think it's XP.

  • It's running Mac OS X.

  • Nice....
