Music is not one dimensional but the reason we often think it is is because the singer is the person we actually SEE perform-all eyes are on them. But the truth is, technology IS music. But singing is also an aspect of music and we have to know the difference between good singing and good technology. Music is by all senses, multidimensional.

here, here, I totally agree. Most of the "Professionals" in the industry sound like crap. It is all about looks and PR. You realize how many "regular" everyday people have more talent than those that are the chosen ones.
While it's true a lot of pop artists out there can't sing it's important to remember how much lies in the mixing. When you record vocals, guitar, bass or anything else it sounds flat, dry and boring before the mixing process. You really can't judge anyones voice fully until you've had him/her step away from the microphone and sing directly to you, that's what I think anyway. I'd like to hear that taiwanese guy without any reverb. :)
Great comments. Lived in Nashville for years and every really good artist had one thing in common. They are went through every record company in town and every producer with each of them turning down their obvious talent. Point being, few people in the music industry have any idea of what they are doing. Often wonder how much talent went home defeated.

I agree to extent to what you are saying but music isn't just the voice; music is EVERYTHING. Music is not one dimensional but the reason we often think it is is because the singer is the person we actually SEE perform-all eyes are on them. But the truth is, technology IS music. But singing is also an aspect of music and we have to know the difference between good singing and good technology. Music is by all senses, multidimensional.

here, here, I totally agree. Most of the "Professionals" in the industry sound like crap. It is all about looks and PR. You realize how many "regular" everyday people have more talent than those that are the chosen ones.

While it's true a lot of pop artists out there can't sing it's important to remember how much lies in the mixing. When you record vocals, guitar, bass or anything else it sounds flat, dry and boring before the mixing process. You really can't judge anyones voice fully until you've had him/her step away from the microphone and sing directly to you, that's what I think anyway. I'd like to hear that taiwanese guy without any reverb. :)

Great comments. Lived in Nashville for years and every really good artist had one thing in common. They are went through every record company in town and every producer with each of them turning down their obvious talent. Point being, few people in the music industry have any idea of what they are doing. Often wonder how much talent went home defeated.

you nailed it on the head! the music industry, along with the film industry, has been marketing their 'goods' to the wrong group of people.
there are plenty of people out there who enjoy real music, real film, and are being ignored. too much crap is out there and the really talented ones are being overlooked because of they don't fit the image.
