  • The word for love and the word for lust were the same across Europe 500 years ago? I'm not sure that's entirely correct. But I appreciate what you're saying. O, and the Celts, they were about 2500 years ago. But that's not really important. Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash, if you haven't read it, you ought to change that. And that's aimed at anyone. =) ...talks of language being like spells. i.e. the Recipe to make a loaf of bread, is like a spell to make bread. Very interesting concept.

  • Neal Stephenson, Snow Crash. If you haven't read it, you ought to change that.

  • Right on!

  • Well bespoke!

  • Awesome vid

  • Something runic in all that...

even the Cabalistic Jews believe that the first creation was not man or woman or earth and sky or sun and moon but ....

Language (Hebrew) in both... it's spoken and writen form...

  • @norvman lol, how can language in written form exist before the substance of the world required as the canvas upon which to write it. Sorry, I'm being pedantic. =)

  • @evilpilch

in Kabbalah it is the 'spoken' word that has the ultimate power...

the written form only being useful to contain what is to be said...

As it was the 'spoken' word that created everything...

So the 'spoken' language existed before the creation...

This gave rise to the belief that the ultimate curse was to be cursed a 'mute' as then you were left mystically defenceless

  • @norvman thats not what you said in your original post though. You said they existed in their spoken and written forms prior to creation. But anyway, it matters not. Also, I suppose if you're running with this bunkum (IMHO) anyway, it kind of implies God spoke to himself. Because if the spoken language existed before creation, thus before anything else existed, God must have been talking to himself. The notion of that amuses me. =)

  • @evilpilch

Then allow me to clairify... the "Universe" as we know it ... is not all there is... (at least acording to Kabblah. that is there was not just God but a whole host of Spiritual beings. that is beings that live out side the confines of the Universe (the Creation) as we know it. so to go even further back than the Creation of the Universe as we know it. there had to be Communication and the communication was what allowed the Work of Creation to occur.

  • I think your trying to pin "other" Religious beliefs to Kabbalah that are not properly connected with it... even with in the confines of Judeo/Christian beliefs there are a myriad number of spin off belief systems and understandings... (one really can be amazed when one looks deeper into it) Nothing... as they say, is ever really what it seems...

  • "Nomina sunt numina."

  • Pen is mightier than the sword.

  • Wow, I never thought of it like that...

  • I think this is your most interesting video.
