Ahem, Spike is not dead. There was a reference to it in Samurai Champloo. Subtle way in the episodes with the Ainu man with the crossbow. At the end of the episode he walks off a cliff on fire after having been shot with fire arrows. He falls into the water below, and it zooms in on one of Mugen's eyes and his thought process is, "He's still alive. I know it in my gut."

The fact that they are such a mismatch is why we find this odd couple to be so attractive. Spike made it clear that he's not attracted to Faye from the start and the same goes to Faye. That is why throughout the entire series people wanted them to hook up.

Spike had to die to make the first episode come to life. It's never ending because the first and last episode link together.  Spike would also never love Faye, the way she loves him, because his heart isn't into her. Still, the artwork is great, and us fan girls can only imagine what it would be like for Spike and Faye to love each other.

It would debunk so much of the depth and emotion from the series if they made another season with Spike alive. I LOVED his character, but him being alive would be very blah.

Really there isn't any proof that Spike died, and the creator said it's possible he's either alive or dead he won't tell anyone. So I think Spike is alive, he's too stubborn to just die like that...

@trixANDstonez impossible.. even if spike did just fall down in reason of unconciousness. he still was surrounded with enemys. theyd just shoot him to make sure he doesent move anymore. the chance he died in that last scene is that high that it doesent make sence to even argue about it.

if spike had survived, anything could have happened. according to Watanabe (the show's creator), spike really did care for faye; he was just never upfront about it. furthermore, with julia and vicious out of the way, spike would have been able to move on from his past... that's what i believe, anyway.

You know its sad really. According to the creator, there's only one season because he didn't feel would get such a strong fanbase as it did. There's been talks, for a while now, that there may be a second season in the making or alternate season...
